There is 'meaning and purpose to life'

I quoted it with a question which you answered no to.

Then you quoted it as part of your argument. The lack of relevance remains yours.

*Sure, why not? Although I don't see why you care, since you take everything and rearrange the words or take partial statements out of context to match your hatred of everthing not you. *
Ooh, I see tiassa's "hatred" form of logic has rubbed off on you.

So, a does not equal a because someone "hates" it?

He's not affirming nothing.

Besides nothing, what exactly is it that pagans, atheists, Buddhists, Hindus, and many others supposedly know?

He's affirming the observational reality that Christian faith is a sacrifice of the intellect.

And Tiassa as always on the Christian forum is wrong as an deceived one could be!

:D Christianity, the Faith is not the sacrifice of intellect, actually aids and increase the intellect of an individual and a society, to the Glory of GOD! And to a wisdom that is infinitely higher then yours Tiassa, which is so finite and as the Bible says will soon pass away with all the knowledge of men on the Earth apart from GOD's Holy Word! All man's pride and arrogance soon turn back to the dust from whence he came!:eek: :) THE WORD OF GOD is the Word from GOD Himself, not of puny men!:mad: :rolleyes: :)

Mankind's know how and wisdom in the 'light' of GOD's wisdom (Word of GOD) is as a penlight with low batteries, against the 'light of the sun in it's full strength at noon time!!:D Man (Tiassa)=very puny,........ GOD=far beyond comprehension!

Loone

Can we then safely assume that the likes of yourself and Tony1 have had their intellect aided by your faith????

(Carefull how you answer that Loone).

It was cloudy today

Rambler--

You took the words straight off my fingertips.

Faith and intellect?

Hi Rambler, I was saying that our Faith does not cause anyone to discard or lessen there intellect, but it is our high morales , freedom the foundation of our civilization , free society, so that our intellects could prosper so in this nation (USA) and others so science could advance and God's blessings on America, so we prosper!

Faith in GOD, the GOD that you are afraid to serve be cause you think of losing your personal freedoms, He give us hope, and the word of Holy Bible 'is' wisdom that is above men, because it is really from GOD Himself and not of men! You may deny the truth that this nation and others really did have our foundation of government and laws are deeply rooted in the Judeo-Christian Faith and the Holy Bible! The LIES of the Enemy, denounces that, but is still the Truth even if athiest and liberals rather believe in lies of the Devil and there own hearts deception! THE TRUTH WILL STAND! And the lies of men will be there own down fall, time will tell ,too soon! Thought a lie, believe a lie, then they are a lie! The truth is that all our prosperity is in our Founding Fathers Faith in the Word of GOD for a moral foundation for a prosperous nation we have today inspite all the problems we having and the big turning unto a LIE instead of the Truth of GOD's Word!

Loone

I must say your convictions (as misplaced as they are) seem quit geniune...tell you what instead of giving me a pro-god pamphlet answer how about you use your own words and construct an argument that demonstrates how the intellect of an individual and society is befited by the christain religion.

nahh fuck that....

your moral christain founding fathers came to the land, killed and tourmented the native people of that land and claimed it as there own. Further your proporous nation built a great deal of its prosperity by taking advantage of nations in conflict with each other...i.e. your prospertiy was won by spilling blood of many inocent people. And it still happens that way. Most first world countries are guilty of the same....I can't believe you fall for all that non-sense...your just a regurgitating machine aren't you loone. I'm not surprised that you are christain since your intelectual make up seems to fit the desired mould of a christain, ignorant and impressionable....I'm sorry loone but I'm yet to see you do more then spill verbal dioreah (sp?) on these forums.

But Tiassa, the meek shall inherit the Earth! But Faith in GOD and the reading of the Bible does not decrease intellect!:D You and Cris and others are scorning what you really don't understand! Playing with fire! I truly believe that we as a nation, would not of gotten as far as we have if it was not for our Christian Faith's foundation of our society! LIES are permeated through out this world about our Faith, but the truth stands! Sliding back into anarchy and soon in the future will be as of those third world nations and dictatorships! For now we free! But for how long with people like you taking over the government! GOD's word is the one and only way! For a society to be run!:eek: :)

Down with Terinny!

Who is Terinny?

I've checked a couple of books of Irish and Celtic myths, and I can't find any Terinny. Google gives me nothing. Hello? Who are you badmouthing this time?
Down with Terinny!
At any rate, if the meek do inherit the Earth, the pleasant thing is that they will no longer have to put up with your brand of Christianity. The peace and quiet will do people good.

You should know by now, the bible turned Loone's brain to mush, so he only knows how to spew out scriptures. From the quoted description below, I think he may be refering to TYRANNY. ( a government or political unit ruled by a tyrant or tyrants)

Tony, Tony, Tony. I said "no" that's not what I was thinking of. As in, I wasn't thinking of that quote. I simply assumed it had some relevence to my question since you act so knowledgable about the bible. So how did it become irrelevant to the question AFTER you used it, but was relevant WHEN you used it? Does that really make sense to you? If so, then it's no wonder you have trouble with everyone else's logic.

No, tony1, nothing rubbed off on me. I'm sorry for calling it hatred. That wasn't fair. I know it's really just a fear of the unknown that causes you to appear so hateful.

Ouch

Well, my bad ... I try not to pick on people's spelling, but that was nowhere near, so .... Whoops.

I see that Loone is from Alabama, and no, there are no jokes coming here. I'm wondering if maybe that's how it's pronounced in Montgomery. Up here, we say, "Teer'nee", "Tir'nee" ... well, something like that.

Anyway, my bad.

thanx much,

Being from the south, the accent comes out sounding pretty much like he spelled it. My brother lives "in the country" and I have to pay pretty close attention to the context of his wife's phrases to know what she's talking about sometimes........so no biggie on my part.

N'Awlins (New Orleans) being a port city, We pronounce it pretty much the same as you. Although most of our phrases confuse people, I know because I've lived in Florida, California, South and North Carolina, most weekends in Georgia for two of my Marine Corps Years. I had to explain myself quite often.

*all phrases said as quickly as possible or as one word
YeahYouRight=same as texan's yeehaw or used afirmatively.
PassByYourHouse=stop and visit you.
StayByYourHouse=spend the night.
Make Groceries=go grocery shopping.
PassAGoodTime=have some fun.
SeeWhatIMean=understand what I'm showing you?
KnowWhatIMean=understand what I'm telling you?
I'mFitna=I am fixing(about) to...
I'maGettaRoundTuit=I'll take care of it soon.

EVERYONE ELSE
This pertains to the subject because the meaning and purpose is to experience other cultures and help to understand your different lifestyles without condemning.

Tiassa,

Let’s assume the word is tyranny since that fits the context of Loone’s post, he was talking about dictatorships. What he is proposing is replacing all the world’s petty dictators with a larger all-powerful dictator, the ultimate tyrant.

But how do we know that his god is a tyrant? Easy, just look at the 10 commandments. They are all framed in the form of authoritarian commands. There are no concessions to the needs and desires of mankind; there is no consent to a democratic system. It is simple authoritarian tyranny. And tyranny also implies terror and that is also consistent when one considers the punishments for breaking any of the 10 commandments, in 9 out 10 the penalty is death.

Meaning of life

The meaning of life is simple. "Preserve it for our children." We need to leave them something to work with, something at least fixable. We're not doing a very good job!

God as a tyrant

Cris--
But how do we know that his god is a tyrant? Easy, just look at the 10 commandments.
I also figured the whole bit about Job was pretty much a dead giveaway. There is also the hypocrisy of at least one of the commandments--Thou shall not kill--that seems, in the Bible's own retrospect, to apply only from one Hebrew to the next. For thou shall not suffer a witch to live, and we all know about the Amelekites from prior discussions here at Sciforums. I try not to nail the hypocrisy on events that came before the commandments, but as to tyranny, we might take a look at the Great Flood of so many lores which, if I have it right, the God of the Bible sent to destroy mankind save Noah and his family, and to restart the botched experiment from the ground up. (An interesting note on God as a scientist: why not just flood everyone and re-create? Probably not as difficult as forcing a covenant on the survivors of his wrath. At the height of its savagery, Soviet Communism had a nifty trick: collect, oh, say, 30 dissidents, line them up, and execute them in the middle of the night one by one, and then leave the last one alive; he will repent, sign a statement of allegiance to the Party, and probably tell his friends and relatives how nice the regime was for sparing his life amid the squalor of those hateful dissidents.) Something about Sodom, too, in which God hated the sinners as well as the sin, though His Tyranny blessed a man who offered his own daughters up to violation at the hands of an angry mob--I find the irony of God's sentiment laughable to the point of sickness.
there is no consent to a democratic system
And here we find an even more sickening irony: the "consent" of the faithful, who believe that to not consent invites punishment. I will skip my parking lot analogy, since it generally flies over the heads of the genuflect faithful.

thanx,
Tiassa :cool:

No need to go before the commandments. Just stop at the Salem Witch Trials many were executed in the name of god based on the words of a few teenagers. Now you need not be executed as long as you named other witches and declared yourself one in writing. I personally would have started my list with the judge, jury, and clergyman who performed the investigation. How could they identify a witch if they were not one themselves.

The 10 commandments.....the name says it all. COMMANDments. "I order you to follow these or suffer a fire and brimstone death for all eternity!", so sayeth the lord.

Exactly...Commandments!!!!

Comes the question Why do so much people believe and kill for this god?? I don't understand. It is not logical at all.
This tyran god of them, catholics, protestants, moslims, other religions which live with the holy bible in their hands, is one and the same......
Don't they see...All the wars about religion are so terribly useless, they're all about the same god with some other rules, it goes along with the religion, the rules I mean.
I'm sick of all this fighting and killing in name of god. What god is so good he likes it his slaves kill for him. Nice god, glad I don't am a believer.....

Come on people, wake up, STOP YOUR DUMB RELIGIOUS WARS....
They've taken enough lives. In the name of god, one more in the name of god.......:mad:

You've got that right, patman. Society as a whole has completely lost sight of Species Preservation. Our made-up game of economics (which has absolutely nothing to do with anything in the big scheme of things) has completely overshadowed the pursuit of true understanding. Even people that WANT to pay attention to our more basic needs have to spend huge amounts of time playing our rediculous games. Unless, of course, they want to completely recede from society, which I'm not sure is really possible anymore. I wonder how long human society can go on feeding on itself this way before it finally collapses on itself.

I think the thing that most sets us apart from other nations is that we have the highest rate of crime and murder than anyone else. It's not even close. Even countries that are basically in war zones are safer (at least statistically) than the streets of our cities. So what do you mean "as far as we have"? You mean as far into social apathy as we have?
