"religious" music

i don't know if you're familiar with this band, but 30 seconds to mars is one of my favorites, and world-reknown, mainstream rock. this song is all over the radio in the states right now. and their singer, jared leto, is a very famous actor. he's the "pretty" blonde kid, who gets his face all tore up in "fight club". i hate that scene.

No. i think this was the first time i have seen that band on a video.

here's another linkin park song that speaks a very christian message imo. and if you're into going to concerts at all, this band puts on a really, really good show.

linkin park "what i've done"...

In this farewell
There's no blood
There's no alibi
Cause I've drawn regret
From the truth
Of a thousand lies

So let mercy come
And wash away

What I've done
I'll face myself
To cross out what I've become
Erase myself
And let go of what I've done

Put to rest
What you thought of me
While I clean this slate
With the hands
Of uncertainty

So let mercy come
And wash away

What I've done
I'll face myself
To cross out what I've become
Erase myself
And let go of what I've done

For what I've done

I'll start again
And whatever pain may come
Today this ends
I'm forgiving what I've done

I'll face myself
To cross out what I've become
Erase myself
And let go of what I've done

What I've done

Forgiving what I've done

here's the video...

i absolutely LOVE that video. you know, i argue with people out here all the time about what's going on in that video, and they just don't see. these boys can see.

notice the grass being sucked into the ground at the beginning of the video, and the scorpion (revelation), and then the grass grows again at the end of the video.

it really gets to me. :bawl:

(((( Lori )))) :) Thats an awesome song and video. Yeah it is clear as day to me what they are singing about. He sings about facing the conviction of mans sins and through that being forgiven and being given the love of Jesus to forgive oneself. Of cource the video has a political and exological theme to mask the personal aspect of the lyrics.

Yes as you pointed out in Reveltion one third of the grass will be burt off as a result of the meteor impact (well thats what i believe ) and the locusts like ones will assend from the bottomless pit and they shall have a sting like a scorpion and they shall sting men for 5 months.

When i watched Linkin Parks Catalyst on utube i commented on it and got a reply that the guy who wrote the song said the song has "nothing to do with religion" Now that could be code for "it has nothing to do with the false religions of man" Or.. and this could be even more incredable, that the group is being used unknowingly by God. But i find that hard to believe. I found out that 2 of the members of linkin park are Jews 1 is an athiest and the other one is a buddhist.

Thanks lori for posting some awesome songs. :)

Yes thet did say that 666 was the number of the beast but in the song they state "sex, success the number of the beast" kind of like they where interpreting 666 to mean sex and success.

All Praise The Ancient Of Days

Please show me wherer they say Sex success the number of the beast in the following lyrics

Woe to You Oh Earth and Sea
for the Devil sends the beast with wrath
because he knows the time is short
Let him who hath understanding
reckon the number of the beast
for it is a human number
its number is six hundred and sixty six.

I lived alone
my mind was blank
I needed time to think to get the memories from my mind

What did I see?
Could I believe?
That what I saw that night was real and not just fantasy

Just what I saw
in my old dreams
were they
reflections of my warped mind staring back at me?

'Cause in my dreams
it's always there
the evil face that twists my mind and brings me to despair

Night was black
was no use holding back
'Cause I just had to see
was someone watching me
In the mist
dark figures move and twist
was all this for real
or just some kind of hell
6-6-6 the Number of the Beast
Hell and fire was spawned to be released

Torches blazed and
sacred chants were phrased
as they start to cry
hands held to the sky
In the night
the fires are burning bright
the ritual has begun
Satan's work is done
6-6-6 the Number of the Beast
Sacrifice is going on tonight

This can't go on
I must inform the law
Can this still be real
or just some crazy dream?
but I feel drawn
towards the chanting hordes
seem to mesmerise...can't avoid their eyes
6-6-6 the Number of the Beast
6-6-6 the one for you and me

I'm coming back
I will return
And I'll possess your body
and I'll make you burn
I'll have the fire
I'll have the force
I'll have the power
to make my evil take its course

I must have miss heard the lyrics. My mistake. I know it happens often. A lot of people go a long time thinking that a song says something that it doesn't and it seem with this song i have had the wrong lyrics for years. :D Oh well i am just a human.

Thanks for correcting me.

Well the next Song is a very old song by a guy called Stevie Wonder yeah back in the disco 70's I am linking His version because i could not find the one by Kate Ceberano from her album Brave my favourite version. I see that red hot chilli peppers also did a version of the song. So i guess if you don't like the original then you can search for their version.

Stevie Wonder Higher Ground

People keep on learnin'
Soldiers keep on warrin'
World keep on turnin'
Cause it won't be too long

Powers keep on lyin'
While your people keep on dyin'
World keep on turnin'
Cause it won't be too long

I'm so darn glad he let me try it again
Cause my last time on earth I lived a whole world of sin
I'm so glad that I know more than I knew then
Gonna keep on tryin'
Till I reach the highest ground

Teachers keep on teachin'
Preachers keep on preachin'
World keep on turnin'
Cause it won't be too long
Oh no

Lovers keep on lovin'
Believers keep on believin'
Sleepers just stop sleepin'
Cause it won't be too long
Oh no

I'm so glad that he let me try it again
Cause my last time on earth I lived a whole world of sin
I'm so glad that I know more than I knew then
Gonna keep on tryin'
Till I reach my highest ground...Whew!
Till I reach my highest ground
No one's gonna bring me down
Oh no
Till I reach my highest ground
Don't you let nobody bring you down (they'll sho 'nuff try)
God is gonna show you higher ground
He's the only friend you have around

Ok, when i hear the first part of the song it is like a dare to those who have rejected the truth and want to go on playing the vain game of life . So when he sings "Solders keep on warrin" its like, yeah keep up your shit cause it won't be too long before Jesus returns and puts and end to your antics. Same for powers authorities of this world lyin while their people keep on dyin cause of their ( the authorities) evil, cause it won't be to long before Jesus puts and stop to that also.

Next part about being glad about getting the opportunity to try life again is not to me talking about reincarnation but about being reborn a new person through the indwelling for the Holy Spirit. It is like having a new life, you have died a kind of death of the old self.

The Higher Ground is the eternal Higher ground with God. And He sings he is not about to allow no one to bring him down. Nothing is more important than His life with God and No one can divert him from God.

Funny enough the song when it was played fades the last two lines,

"God is gonna show you higher ground
He's the only friend you have around"

And the last line you cannot hear in the video. I got no doubt that the radio stations also Faded this part out when it was a hit.

hey, i never knew the lyrics to the chorus. awesome! i do like the chili pepper's version of this.

Yeah you seem to like things a bit heavy and loud lori :D .

I don't mind a bit of boom crash opera as well, it all depends what mood i am in. I am lucky because i like a lot of different music styles so i get enjoyment out of a lot of music. Although i never really liked rap but some of the linkin park music does inject rap type poetry into the lyrics and they do it well.

I also like Techno, something that gets the heart racing. Some techno music evokes pictures and themes in my mind of the end times and the second coming of the Messiah .

Turboy Heaven Rising

http://soundmaven.com/artist/Turboy/# Just click on the red sky picture next to the title "turboy remix" the slide show has nothing to do with the music as far as i am concerned.

This next piece of music was current when i first became a Christian. I remember listening to it and it evoked such pure joy for me. It was a celebration of my embrace of Jesus. Even now when i listen to it, it rekindles the same feeling of elation and happiness i felt when i came to the knowledge of the Love of the truth :D

adstar,

primarily i like good melodies, which imo rules out a lot of hardcore screamo rock, rap, and the majority of techno. but i do tend to gravitate towards metal and hard rock.

when i was really little, my parents used to listen to a lot of motown, the grass roots, the guess who, joe cocker, santana. then i discovered kiss, and it was all over. i was introduced to metallica in high school, by my brother who was in a metal band. in college i discovered jane's addiction. i finally got to see them in concert last summer. i thought i was in heaven.

i still love those bands, and now my favorites include AFI, my chemical romance, disturbed, HIM, shinedown, slipknot, 30 seconds to mars, stone temple pilots, incubus, soundgarden, tool, alice in chains, rage against the machine, and for a while i really appreciated some NIN.

talk about heavy, here's a song by metallica called "the four horsemen". old school...

By the last breath the fourth winds blow
Better raise your ears
The sound of hooves knock at your door
Lock up your wife and children now
It's time to wield the blade
For now you've got some company

The Horsemen are drawing nearer
On leather steeds they ride
They've come to take your life
On through the dead of night
With the Four Horsemen ride
Or choose your fate and die

You have been dying since the day you were born
You know it's all been planned
The quartet of deliverance rides
A sinner once, a sinner twice
No need for confessions now
'Cause now you've got the fight of your life

The Horsemen are drawing nearer
On leather steeds they ride
They've come to take your life
On through the dead of night
With the Four Horsemen ride
Or choose your fate and die

Time has taken its toll on you
The lines that crack your face
Famine, your body it has torn through
Withered in every place
Pestilence, for what you had to endure
And what you have put others through
Death, deliverance for you for sure
Now there's nothing you can do

Gather 'round young warriors now
Saddle up your steeds
Killing scores with demon swords
Now is the death of doers of wrong
Swing the judgment hammer down
Safely inside armor, blood, guts and sweat

The Horsemen are drawing nearer
On leather steeds they ride
They've come to take your life
On through the dead of night
With the Four Horsemen ride
Or choose your fate and die

oh yeah yeah!

I liked Kiss and AC DC when i was a kid but i never really got into the real heavy metal like metalica they where just noise and attitude to me. Like the stage acts and costumes looked too fake for me. plus most metal bands where like most rap bands carbon copies of each other, they all seemed to me to be just in it for the money and fame.

I still like some of AC DC stuff some of that is really good.

My favourite music now is just music without lyrics. it gives you freedom to interpret and just enjoy the music. And my faourite musican is a gutarist called Tommy Emmanuel. he is not very famous probably because he is a Christian who actually talks about his faith. But he is simply the best gutar player i have ever listened to.

ok, this is serious. i want everyone to pay attention to this next song and video by NIN, "we're in this together now". i think they're about the second coming of christ, the recognition of the kingdom in the last days, and the manifestation of the kingdom coming forth into the new age.

"We're In This Together"

I've become impossible
holding on to it
when everything seemed to matter more
the two of us
all used and beaten up
watching fate as it flows down the path we
have chose

you and me
we're in this together now
none of them can stop us now
we will make it through somehow
you and me
if the world should break in two
until the very end of me
until the very end of you

awake to the sound as they peel apart the skin
they pick and they pull
trying to get their fingers in
well they've got to kill what we've found
well they've got to hate what they fear
well they've got to make it go away
well they've got to make it disappear

the farther I fall I'm beside you
as lost as I get I will find you
the deeper the wound I'm inside you
for ever and ever I'm a part of

you and me
we're in this together now
none of them can stop us now
we will make it through somehow
you and me
if the world should break in two
until the very end of me
until the very end of you

all that we were is gone we have to hold on
when all our hope is gone we have to hold on
all that we were is gone but we can hold on

you and me
we're in this together now
none of them can stop us now
we will make it through somehow
you and me
even after everything
you're the queen and I'm the king
nothing else means anything

in the 1st verse and the chorus, it's obvious to me he's talking about faith and communion. in the 2nd verse he's talking about the flesh and the world we live in now, in the last days.

the video...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1Zulx4mjHk&feature=related

this video blew my mind when i first saw it. let's analyze...

it starts with him looking like he's got something pressing on his mind, like he's focused, and he's lying in a room, with a uniform on, waiting, and bleeding. that is blood going down the drain. there's an image of a train coming. perhaps that's a vision he has. so he get's up and looks out the window. looks at the sky, and sees signs, and he's on the move. he's trying to find something or someone in some mad apocalyptic dash. if you watch him, it seems to me like he's being led by something you can't see. he stops and shuts his eyes at one point, like he's trying to tune into something.

when he finds the train, notice that they focus in on certain passengers, and notice that those passengers are blind, except for this one girl who i identify with. when he makes eye contact with her, he looks relieved. reminds me of my shepherd.

then back to the mad apocalyptic dash, and when it's all over, he's the only one left standing.

I can see where you get a Biblical message in that song lori.

But i see "making it" as not being something we do somehow. Alive or Dead we can make it to eternity with God because He makes us make it. Its Gods power and might His atonement through Jesus that guarantees us making it. But again it is not about surviving alive till the day of His return. It’s about trusting in Jesus till the day of our death or the day of His return.

The apocalyptic dash you mentioned was for me the part of the video that had obvious biblical inspiration.

Zachariah 14
1 Behold, the day of the LORD is coming,
And your spoil will be divided in your midst.
2 For I will gather all the nations to battle against Jerusalem;
The city shall be taken,
The houses rifled,
And the women ravished.
Half of the city shall go into captivity,
But the remnant of the people shall not be cut off from the city.
3 Then the LORD will go forth
And fight against those nations,
As He fights in the day of battle.
4 And in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives,
Which faces Jerusalem on the east.
And the Mount of Olives shall be split in two,
From east to west,
Makinga very large valley;
Half of the mountain shall move toward the north
And half of it toward the south.
5 Then you shall flee through My mountain valley,

For the mountain valley shall reach to Azal.
Yes, you shall flee
As you fled from the earthquake

Psalm 91
5 You shall not be afraid of the terror by night,
Nor of the arrow that flies by day,
6 Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness,
Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.

7 A thousand may fall at your side,
And ten thousand at your right hand;
But it shall not come near you.
8 Only with your eyes shall you look,
And see the reward of the wicked.

9 Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge,
Even the Most High, your dwelling place,
10 No evil shall befall you,

yes that's true, and everything will happen as it should, but the manifestation of the kingdom in the last days will require some real, logistical, practical things to occur, and i think that video is reflective of those things in a metaphorical way. i mentioned the fact that he's bleeding in the beginning of the video, because any time i see blood, i'm inclined to think of christ. his blood is what brings all of us into the kingdom. also, some might think that all of the empty uniforms lying on the ground at the end of the video could be symbolic of the rapture. it is weird.

Well it seems to be inspired by the bible but it is also confused or masked to such an extent that it is not as effective as the songs you posted from Linkin park. "what i have done" and "catalyst"

If the blood represents the blood of Jesus and it is coming out of him then the artist would be representing himself as Jesus. Why would Jesus then be running to avoid destruction? But the blood could symbolise his personal death of self centredness.

Galatians 2
20I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

So maybe the artist was trying to express this event in his life. that He had been crucified with Christ. Similar to the line in the linkin park song "what i have done" where the singer sings about Eracing himself.

"What I've done
I'll face myself
To cross out what I've become
Erase myself

And let go of what I've done"

but the manifestation of the kingdom in the last days will require some real, logistical, practical things to occur

Such as? I would like to be sure of what your saying here. Maybe an example may confirm for me the point.

i don't think he's trying to represent himself as jesus, but as a man who has been called to the kingdom. i think this video in the most general sense, is about recognition. when he is lying in that room, in a uniform, waiting, with something on his mind...i can absolutely relate to that. i recognize that. because of some things i've been through, i feel the same way. like i have been called to be a part of something and i am waiting.

and bleeding. i think that definitely symbolizes a type of suffering, in an "out with the old" kind of way, in preparation for something new. like christ's blood.

i'm thinking about the communion ceremony, and how we ingest christ's blood and body. i'm thinking about the holy grail, and how it's a vessel that contains christ's blood, and how our bodies are vessels, and how the body of christ is the church. and i'm thinking there are two ways that you can achieve royalty. you can be born into it, or married into it.

perhaps there is some other way to achieve a sinless population that i'm not aware of, or perhaps it will be achieved through a sinless bloodline.

i don't necessarily think those people are running from destruction in that video, i think they're running to something. in a "the train is a comin'" kind of way. imo, that's a real, logistical depiction of that metaphor. you know what i mean? in the bible, there are a lot of statements made, promises made, prophecies made, but there isn't a lot of practical, logistical detail about how those things will actually progress, or manifest in a real way.

when he sees that girl on the train, they recognize each other, and imo, not based on physical appearance, but based on what they've been called to do. you can tell by the look on his face...the recognition, the confirmation, and the relief. i know what it's like to look at someone, that i don't know, and have that happen.

here's a video for a david bowie song called "i'm afraid of americans". trent reznor is in this video and plays a character i call "psycho stalker jesus". i mean, once you get a load of him, he will hunt you down, and show you what's wrong with the world, and then destroy what's wrong with it. all the while you're just trying to live your life, read the newspaper, and suck on a coke.

it's actually quite traumatic. i love this video.

Well david bowie must know a really good plastic surgeon, how old is that guy now? got to be over 60?

I got a very different view of that video from you Lori. I saw that trent reznor represents the god of this world. The procession in the end was occultic like to me even had a catholic priest in it, all darkness, in control, with bad intentions for you.

americas god is the god of masonry, and that's lucifer.

really? i don't get that impression at all. maybe i'm jaded because i love new orleans and i know reznor's one of the good guys.

i just totally relate to that video because in a way, that's what god has done to me too. i love the way trent looks. the expression on his face, that he's relentless. i like that bowie is just trying to read the paper, mind his own business, walk down the street, and keeps trying to escape back into the world, but he can't run away. everywhere he goes, there's jonny! showing him all of this horrible stuff that he doesn't want to realize. and when he finally gets him in the cab and is yelling at him. i love it! bowie breaks down like a little girl. and then jonny annihilates it!

it's great!
