"religious" music

I do not like most Christian music, because up until now I thought it was all pop and boring. The music didn't touch me. Even the music I sing in the Worship Group. Most of that is popular Christian music. Christian Metal reaches to me. I love Flyleaf. It is an Alternative-Metal Christian band. On the new album, Momento Mori, I have found that the song Tiny Heart relates to me. It reaches to me. Maybe it will reach to you.

Tiny Heart

Tiny Heart, stuck inside yourself
When will you open up for me?
I love you so, I wanna meet you again
Before one of us must go.

Your lips touched every hand but mine
If you choose me, I'm waiting for you
If you choose me, I'm waiting for you
Always waiting

Tiny heart, you're not by yourself
When will you recognize the beat
Of my own heart, grieving in your hand?
You crush me when you run that way.

Your lips touched every hand but mine
If you choose me, I'm waiting for you
If you choose me, I'm waiting for you
Always waiting

You will never know what you have done to me
And you will never know losing love for me
And you will never know a single day alone.

Tiny heart, stuck inside yourself
When will you open up?

Your lips touched every hand but mine
If you choose me, I'm waiting for you
If you choose me, I'm waiting for you
Always waiting

i love flyleaf. i saw them live at a festival show last summer, and they were great.

i love this song "missing", and the video. it reminds me of a look back at myself.

it's nice to know that someone else has felt the way you've felt.

here's another flyleaf song about me (the church)...

Unified diversity
Functioning as one body
Every part encouraged by the other
No one independent of another
You're irreplaceable, indispensable
You're incredible
Incredible

(Chorus)
Beautiful bride
Body of Christ
One flesh abiding
Strong and unifying
Fighting ends in forgiveness
Unite and fight all division
Beautiful bride

Strengthen your arms now
Train your fingers for battle
Urgency's here now
Train your fingers for battle
Fighting this violence
With your feet wrapped in peace
Sad tears and silence
Now screams of joy
Victory

(Chorus)
Beautiful bride
Body of Christ
One flesh abiding
Strong and unifying
Fighting ends in forgiveness
Unite and fight all division
Beautiful bride

Beautiful bride
Body of Christ
One flesh abiding
Strong and unifying

We're not gonna fall and forget
How far You went to pick us up
If one part's hurt the whole body's sick
If one part mourns we all mourn with Him
Rejoice, and we'll sing with you
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah

(Chorus)
Beautiful bride
Body of Christ
One flesh abiding
Strong and unifying
Fighting ends in forgiveness
Unite and fight all division
Beautiful bride (x2)

Perform a search on Incubus and the titles she listed and you will most likely find an available video. :)

Ok i looked them upm on Utube and saw them. the second one was very moving the one that had the woman being lifted up away from the earth. I think it was stellar. I can see how that would move Lori.

Glad to help.

I play a PC game called Fallout 3 It is a game set in a post nuclear war world. The game is set in the ruins of washington and surounding areas. There are a few radio stations that are operating and you can tune into them as you go about your quests. The songs are a funny mix of songs taken from what seems like the 1930's, there are a lot of mixed up themes in the game. Anyway i was playing the game listening to the radio and as this song was playing i just stopped in my tracks and listened to it. Amazing when God chooses to talk with you. Even in the middle of a shootemup PC game. :D

Crazy He Calls Me by Billie Holiday

I say I’ll move the mountains
And I’ll move the mountains
If he wants them out of the way
Crazy, he calls me
Sure I’m crazy
Crazy in love, I’d say
I say I’ll go through fire
And I’ll go through fire
As he wants it, so it shall be
Crazy, he calls me
Sure I’m crazy
Crazy in love, you see
Like the wind that shakes the bough
He moves me with a smile
The difficult I’ll do right now
The impossible will take a little while
I say I’ll care forever
And I mean forever
If I have to hold up the sky
Crazy, he calls me
Sure I’m crazy
Crazy in love am I

this one by the sick puppies has been talking to me lately...

I dont mind where you come from
As long as you come to me
But I dont like illusions I cant see
Them clearly
I dont care, no I wouldn't dare
To fix the twist in you
You've shown me eventually what you'll do
I dont mind
I dont care
As long as you're here

[Chorus]

Go ahead and tell me you'll leave again
You'll just come back running
Holding your scarred heart in hand
It's all the same
And I'll take you for who you are
If you take me for everything
And do it all over again
It's all the same

Hours slide and days go by
Till you decide to come
But in-between it always seems too long
Suddenly
But I have the skill, yeah
I have the will, to breath you in while I can
However long you stay is all that I am

I dont mind, I dont care
As long as you're here

Go ahead and tell me you'll leave again
You'll just come back running
Holding your scarred heart in hand
It's all the same
And I'll take you for who you are
If you take me for everything
And do it all over again
It's always the same

Wrong or Right
Black or White
If I close my eyes
Its all the same

In my life
The compromise
I'll close my eyes
Its all the same

Go ahead say it
You're leaving
You'll just come back running
Holding your scarred heart in hand
It's all the same
And I'll take you for who you are now
If you take me for everything
Do it all over again
It's all the same

wow. that song is perfect. i've never listened to billie holiday before. her voice reminds me of new orleans. lovely. :)

I have never liked country music as in the actual sound, but a lot of country songs are meaningful. Most a sentimental some are like the next one. I got this from a Goth i was helping. She was as close to me as a sister could be. She gave me this song and i identified with it immediatly. As i said before the music does nothing to me but the lyrics say everything.

Man in Black by Johnny Cash

Well, you wonder why I always dress in black,
Why you never see bright colors on my back,
And why does my appearance seem to have a somber tone.
Well, there's a reason for the things that I have on.

I wear the black for the poor and the beaten down,
Livin' in the hopeless, hungry side of town,
I wear it for the prisoner who has long paid for his crime,
But is there because he's a victim of the times.

I wear the black for those who never read,
Or listened to the words that Jesus said,
About the road to happiness through love and charity,
Why, you'd think He's talking straight to you and me.

Well, we're doin' mighty fine, I do suppose,
In our streak of lightnin' cars and fancy clothes,
But just so we're reminded of the ones who are held back,
Up front there ought 'a be a Man In Black.

I wear it for the sick and lonely old,
For the reckless ones whose bad trip left them cold,
I wear the black in mournin' for the lives that could have been,
Each week we lose a hundred fine young men.

And, I wear it for the thousands who have died,
Believen' that the Lord was on their side,
I wear it for another hundred thousand who have died,
Believen' that we all were on their side.

Well, there's things that never will be right I know,
And things need changin' everywhere you go,
But 'til we start to make a move to make a few things right,
You'll never see me wear a suit of white.

Ah, I'd love to wear a rainbow every day,
And tell the world that everything's OK,
But I'll try to carry off a little darkness on my back,
'Till things are brighter, I'm the Man In Black.

This next one really hits the emotional spot for me. When ever i hear this song i end up in tears. Or even think about it. The post poignant part i have bolded. Hits my heart like a sledge hammer.

I am not really sure what kind of musical style tag would be stamped on this one. I guess someone might know.

He ain't heavy he's my brother by The Hollies

The road is long
With many a winding turn
That leads us to who knows where
Who knows where
But I'm strong
Strong enough to carry him
He ain't heavy, he's my brother

So on we go

His welfare is of my concern
No burden is he to bear
We'll get there

For I know
He would not encumber me
He ain't heavy, he's my brother

If I'm laden at all

I'm laden with sadness
That everyone's heart
Isn't filled with the gladness
Of love for one another

It's a long, long road
From which there is no return
While we're on the way to there
Why not share

And the load
Doesn't weigh me down at all
He ain't heavy he's my brother

He's my brother
He ain't heavy, he's my brother

Glad you liked it. A lot of good music on that double CD set.

Ok next song is a tear inducing machine for me. When i sing it i cannot prevent myself from crying.

I Wish by Lighthouse Family

I wish I knew how it would feel to be free
I wish I could break all the chains holding me
I wish I could say all the things that I should say
Say 'em loud say 'em clear
For the whole wide world to hear

I wish I could share
All the love that's in my heart
Remove all the bars that keep us apart
And I wish you could know how feels to be me
Then you'd see and agree that every man should be free

I wish I could be like a bird in the sky
How sweet it would be if I found I could fly
Well I'd soar to the sun and look down at the sea
And I'd sing cos I know how it feels to be free

I wish I knew how it would feel to be free
I wish I could break all the chains holding me
And I wish I could say all the things that I wanna say
Say 'em loud say 'em clear
For the whole wide world to hear
Say 'em loud say 'em clear
For the whole wide world to hear
Say 'em loud say 'em clear
For the whole wide world to hear

One love one blood
One life you've got to do what you should
One life with each other
Sisters, brothers

One love but we're not the same
We got to carry each other Carry each other
One One One One One...

I wish I knew how it would feel to be free
I wish I knew how it would feel to be free

Damn it time to go to the bathroom again :bawl:

Hey i found another old favourite way back when i was a kid i love the lyrics and the violin work in this song.

When you down on the bottom you got to shout to the top (Yaveh)

Shout to the Top from Style Council

I was half in mind - I was half in need,
And as the rain came down - I dropped to my knees and prayed
I said 'oh Heavenly thing - please cleanse my soul,
I've seen all on offer and I'm not impressed at all'.
I was halfway home - I was half insane,
And every shop window I looked in just looked the same
I said send me a sign to save my life
'Cause at this moment in time there is nothing certain in
these day's of mine

Y'see it's a frightening thing when it dawns upon you
That I know as much as the day I was born
And though I wasn't asked (I might as well stay)
And promise myself each and every day - that -

When you're knocked on your back - an' your life's a flop
and when you're down on the bottom there's nothing else
but to shout to the top - shout!

Next song is a duet Between Lizzie Watkins and Tommy Emmanuel. Tommy cannot sing as good as he plays but Lizzie makes up for Him with her angelic voice.

Lizzie Watkins and Tommy Emmanuel with Walls

Some walls are made of stone
Sometimes we build our own
Some walls stand for years
And some wash away with tears

Some walls
Some walls

Some walls are lined with gold
Where some hearts stay safe and cold
Some walls are made of doubt
Holding in and keeping out

If there's any hope for love at all
Some walls must fall
Some walls
Some walls

Some walls are built on pride
Some keep the child inside
Some walls are made in fear
That love let go will disappear

If there's any hope for love at all
Some walls must fall

How will you ever know what might be found
Until you let the walls come tumbling down

If there's any hope for love at all
Some walls, some walls must fall

If there's any hope for love at all
Some wall, some walls, some walls
Must fall

Here is a bonus performace. Two great Masters have a little fun with each other before the audiance before combining to make beautiful music together. Only thing wrong with this performance is when a section of the crowd could no longer contain themselves and burst into applause half way through the piece. The ultimate crescendo came at the end, talk about a touch of Heaven on earth. :D

Ok, so I am not religious, but I have a very wide music taste, and I do listen to some Christian bands. Here's a song by a band I really like. Probably quite unlike the other songs in this thread, but I thought I'd throw it out there :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnlHdQJPtgM

Sinai Beach - Necessary Bloodshed

Lord, what more than little good has Your death done?
Lord, why did you give Your Son?
Surely You did it for more than this.

The world lives on in ignorance, filth, and arrogance.
Man wreaks havoc on his inheritance.
Surely You gave Your life.
Surely You gave Your blood,
And Your flesh for more than this.

Lord, what more than little good has Your death done?
Lord, why did you give Your Son?
Surely You did it for more than this.

Your covenant lies highly rejected.
Sadly, it is seldomly accepted.
Yes, to me it means everything,
But to most it means nothing.
Surely You gave Your life.
Surely You gave Your blood,
And Your flesh for more than this.
Surely You died for more than this.

The reason is I.
The reason is one.
You'd suffer and die all over again
For one single person.
And if that one should reject You,
That is the very essence of You:
To give the chance to choose.

Thanks for contributing. I like the lyrics:
