"religious" music

Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?
My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends.
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,
So Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?

Oh Lord, won't you buy me a color TV ?
Dialing For Dollars is trying to find me.
I wait for delivery each day until three,
So oh Lord, won't you buy me a color TV ?

Oh Lord, won't you buy me a night on the town ?
I'm counting on you, Lord, please don't let me down.
Prove that you love me and buy the next round,
Oh Lord, won't you buy me a night on the town ?

Everybody!
Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?
My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends,
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,
So oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?

That's it!

she was so awesome...

i wonder how many religious people wouldn't realize she's making fun of them in this song?

*happy dance*

I'm happy for you :)

Here's one more song from my 'repertoire' and then I'm done here...I tie it to this Scripture passage from Luke 24... sort of a reflective response to Jesus and what He did:

"He said to them, "This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms."

Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures."

ah yes. their music is so complicated and "light-filled". it has a mystical quality...

I awoke this morning
love laid me down by a river.
Drifting I turned on upstream
Bound for my forgiver.
In the giving of my eyes to see your face.
Sound did silence me
leaving no trace.
I beg to leave, to hear your wonderous stories.
Beg to hear your wonderous stories.

He spoke of lands not far
or lands they were in his mind.
Of fusion captured high
where reason captured his time.
In no time at all he took me to the gate.
In haste I quickly checked the time.
if I was late I had to leave to hear your wonderous stories.
Had to hear your wonderous stories.

Hearing
Hearing
Hearing your wonderous stories.
Hearing your wonderous stories.
It is no lie I can see deeply into the future.
Imagine everything
You're close
and were you there to stand
so cautiously at first and then so high.
As he spoke my spirit climbed into the sky.
I bid it to return
to hear your wonderous stories.
Return to hear your wonderous stories.

Hearing,
Hearing,
Hearing,
Hearing,
Hearing,

The Galaxy Song

(spoken)
Whenever life gets you down, Mrs. Brown,
And things seem hard or tough,
And people are stupid, obnoxious or daft,
(sung)
And you feel that you've had quite eno-o-o-o-o-ough,

Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving
And revolving at 900 miles an hour.
It's orbiting at 19 miles a second, so it's reckoned,
The sun that is the source of all our power.
Now the sun, and you and me, and all the stars that we can see,
Are moving at a million miles a day,
In the outer spiral arm, at 40,000 miles an hour,
Of a galaxy we call the Milky Way.

Our galaxy itself contains a hundred billion stars;
It's a hundred thousand light-years side to side;
It bulges in the middle sixteen thousand light-years thick,
But out by us it's just three thousand light-years wide.
We're thirty thousand light-years from Galactic Central Point,
We go 'round every two hundred million years;
And our galaxy itself is one of millions of billions
In this amazing and expanding universe.

(waltz)

Our universe itself keeps on expanding and expanding,
In all of the directions it can whiz;
As fast as it can go, at the speed of light, you know,
Twelve million miles a minute and that's the fastest speed there is.
So remember, when you're feeling very small and insecure,
How amazingly unlikely is your birth;
And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere out in space,
'Cause there's bugger all down here on Earth!

thank you for the comic relief sarkus. :)

ok, time to turn it up and get dirty.

i'm going back to black light burns, and to a song called "lie". i can't believe no one has commented on this band; they're so outrageous and good.

here's the video...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jzPMnlfy7w

synopsis: he's baptized, stripped down, and covered in filth. he acts in complete submission except for when he's throwing a fit while singing the chorus. he's pushed and shoved around and seemingly murdered by dark figures wearing masks, and he's eventually propped up on a throne, in a clean white and gold room, that's filled with people who seem rather large and in charge, like rock stars.

here are the lyrics...

I'm living a lie
And it's not the best thing for me
But anyone and everyone is gonna hear another story
I'm building a house
Of murderous intention
To keep it all from coming down
I've gotta focus my attention
'cause confidence is key
When violating trust
I'm making sure that I believe
I'm doing what I must
Which is attempting to kill
The little boy inside
But as hard as I try...
The child will not die

Now I'm burning alive, just like you

I'm irrelevant
And I'm living down in the shit
I follow these pigs around
But I never get used to it
'cause they keep building and building
Their feculant franchise
I wish I could see this filth
From someone else's eyes
'cause ignorance was bliss
But now I must adjust
These animals, they operate
On jealousy and lust
I'm taking back what was lost
And I will not be denied
I'm crawling my way to the surface outside

Now I'm burning alive, just like you

i think the lie is the difference between what he knows is true, and what he lives every day. i know that when you're baptized in the spirit, you gain a new perspective about the world and humanity (including yourself). you realize we're covered in lies and filth. it can be difficult to look at...ok, brutal. but he's saying the truth will be heard.

he says he's building a house of murderous intentions. i think he's referring to the revelation prophecy, and no one wants to hear about such things. i also think, in reference to that little boy inside, that he's talking about the crucifixion of the flesh again. in exchanging innocence for enlightenment, you actually become like a child again...a child of god. and it can be hard.

like burning alive. burning with a secret knowledge. burning with the duality between what you know is true in the spirit, and what you're forced to live every day in the flesh, which is a lie. burning with passion for manifestation. this guy is definitely being put through the fire.

30 seconds to mars "kings and queens"...

Into the night
Desperate and broken
The sound of a fight
Father has spoken

We were the kings and queens of promise
We were the victims of ourselves
Maybe the children of a lesser God
Between Heaven and Hell
Heaven and Hell

Into your eyes
Hopeless and taken
We stole our new lives
Through blood and pain
In defense of our dreams
In defense of our dreams

We were the Kings and Queens of promise
We were the victims of ourselves
Maybe the Children of a lesser God
Between Heaven and Hell
Heaven and Hell

The age of man is over
A darkness comes and all
These lessons that we learned here
Have only just begun

We were the Kings and Queens of promise
We were the victims of ourselves
Maybe the Children of a Lesser God
Between Heaven and Hell

We are the Kings
We are the Queens
We are the Kings
We are the Queens

the video...notice the cross...and the white horse...and the resurrected kid...

i have mixed feelings about the money thing. in the most general sense, i think the only reason we need money is because of greed.

Money is not in itself a problem. But the love of money leads to all kinds of evil. Greed is a manifestation of the love of money. Money has a use as a means of exchange.

wouldn't it be great if instead of producing things for a profit, we produced things for their intrinsic value alone? if cost wasn't a consideration in the production of these things?

There is always cost involved in producing music or literature, Materials and time being two. It could only ever be free if we could just think it into existence in an instant.

if everyone was free to enjoy and appreciate whatever they desire without money, or even morality being an issue?

But morality is an issue because we have a conscience. People cannot fully enjoy something that conflicts with their conscience.

i bring up morality because i think in a big way, particularly in regards to religion, it's just such a farce. all of these moral judgements handed down about how you should dress, and how you should speak, and where you should live, and who you should be friends with, and what you should read, or watch on tv, or enjoy in the arts, including an appreciation of music.

Well one has to be attentative to that voice within with everything we do.

it seems to me, they don't want people to be able to explore themselves, explore the world, and form their own opinions. it seems like they don't want people to be free. imo, freedom is what christianity is all about. that and communion.

Well to me the freedom i get is more about freedom from fear, stress, worry, hatred and depression. It is not freedom to enjoy evil. Also you have to know the borderline between the good advice from God, given because he loves you and wants you to avoid the suffering that comes from exploring in areas that in the end will only hurt you. Like a loving mother banning their child from exploring the cupboard under the washing up sink because of all the toxic cleaning agents in there.

so freedom and communion is the message, and yet they segregate themselves.

Well yes running away from the world is impossible because you are the world.

My local area is a mayor town with a country feel to it. It is expanding rapidly with an influx of people coming from Sydney, i can tell when i walk down the streets what houses have been bought and settled by ex Sydney siders. There the houses that have put up new 6 foot high bared fences with spikes on top and they always for some reason have two guard dogs running free in the front lawn, there to bark and growl at harmless passing walkers like me who only want a quiet walk of an afternoon. I also observe them in the local shops being pushy and rude and treating the checkout attendants like lower class sub humans. These people flee Sydney to escape the rat race in the hope of having a more relaxed life in the country, but what they don’t realise is that they are the actual rats that make the places they live in a rat race.

i know we're supposed to be different. it's impossible not to be. and i know we're supposed to be the light. but it's really hard to shine on anything when all you're concerned about is isolating yourself from everyone and every thing you hate and are afraid of.

I don't go out of my way to isolate myself from "them" in fact if i did that then i could not give any light to anyone. The separation while being with them is a fine art like a surfer finding the right speed and position in a wave to continue to ride above it without falling into it and suffering the wipe out.

I used to love a band called Eurythmics , had a good singer called Annie Lennox

One of Her songs hit me at the right time.

Take Your Pain Away

If I could find a way
To soothe your troubled mind
Then I would erase your fears
And help you to unwind.
I would ease the burden
That you carry everyday.
Oh - don't you know I'd find a cure
And take your pain away.

Take your pain away
Take your pain away...

And even though you're far from
here
Don't forget I'm always near.
Find comfort in these words I send
In this cold world.

Take your pain away
Take your pain away...

For every aching heart
For every broken soul...

So give up your worries
They'll only do you harm.
There is no need to be concerned
It's just a false alarm.

And another one from her that moved me:

The Miracle Of Love

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s901V3GvELQ

How many sorrows
Do you try to hide
In a world of illusion
That's covering your mind?
I'll show you something good
Oh I'll show you something good.
When you open your mind
You'll discover the sign
That there's something
You're longing to find...

The miracle of love
Will take away your pain
When the miracle of love
Comes your way again.

Cruel is the night
That covers up your fears.
Tender is the one
That wipes away your tears.
There must be a bitter breeze
To make you sting so viciously -
They say the greatest coward
Can hurt the most ferociously.
But I'll show you something good.
Oh I'll show you something good.
If you open your heart
You can make a new start
When your crumbling world falls
apart.

The miracle of love
Will take away your pain
When the miracle of love
Comes your way again.

Next one i call the Afganistan song:

Brothers in Arms
by Dire Straits

These mist covered mountains
Are a home now for me
But my home is the lowlands
And always will be
Some day you'll return to
Your valleys and your farms
And you'll no longer burn
To be brothers in arm

Through these fields of destruction
Baptism of fire
I've watched all your suffering
As the battles raged higher
And though they did hurt me so bad
In the fear and alarm
You did not desert me
My brothers in arms

There's so many different worlds
So many different suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones

Now the sun's gone to hell
And the moon's riding high
Let me bid you farewell
Every man has to die
But it's written in the starlight
And every line on your palm
We're fools to make war
On our brothers in arms.

tori amos "crucify"...

Every finger in the room
Is pointing at me
I wanna spit in their faces
Then I get afraid of what that could bring
I got a bowling ball in my stomach
I got a desert in my mouth
Figures that my courage would choose to sell our now
I've been looking for a savior in these dirty streets
Looking for a savior beneath these dirty sheets
I've been raising up my hands
Drive another nail in
Just what God needs
One more victim

Why do we
Crucify ourselves
Every day
I crucify myself
Nothing I do is good enough for you
Crucify myself
Every day
And my heart is sick of being in chains

Got a kick for a dog
Beggin' for Love
I gotta have my suffering
So that I can have my cross
I know a cat named Easter
He says will you ever learn
You're just an empty cage girl
If you kill the bird
I've been looking for a savior in these dirty streets
Looking for a savior beneath these dirty sheets
I've been raising up my hands
Drive another nail in
Got enough guilt to start
My own religion
Please be
Save me
I cry

Why do we
Crucify ourselves
Every day
I crucify myself
Nothing I do is good enough for you
Crucify myself
Every day
And my heart is sick of being in chains

me too. i knew i was not the only one. ;)

sometimes i hear songs, in which god has conveyed a message to me, that i know is not the message the artist intended at all.

and then sometime i hear an artist and think, 'this artist must have been through something similar to what i have been through". and i've been through something strange and wonderful.

Yep. This next one is a calassic example. I heard this song and even bought her album and i still listen to it from time to time. But having seen the video on Utube it is clear the artist had a totally different idea.

Try this. start this Utube video but listen to the song with your eyes shut. Don't look at the video. Then play it again and watch the video. The difference is mind boggling. Well it is for me anyway. :D

i didn't really understand a concept in the video. i liked her outfit though. :)

and i certainly got the message in the song.

ok, my song of the day is from one of my, and many others, all time favorite bands...metallica.

this song expresses exactly how i feel about living in the flesh and about my savior jesus christ.

"the day that never comes"...

Born to push you around,
Better just stay down.
You pull away,
He hits the flesh,
You hit the ground.

Mouth so full of lies,
Tend to black your eyes.
Just keep them closed,
Keep praying,
Just keep waiting.

Waiting for the one!
The day that never comes!
When you stand up and feel the warmth!
But the sunshine never comes!

No the sun shine never comes.

Push you cross that line,
Just stay down this time.
Hide in yourself,
Crawl in yourself,
You'll have your time.

God I'll make them pay,

Take it back one day.
I'll end this day,
I'll splatter color on this gray.

Waiting for the one!
The day that never comes!
When you stand up and feel the warmth!
But the sunshine never comes!

Love is a four letter word!
And never spoken here!

Love is a four letter word!
Here in this prison!
I suffer this no longer!
I'll put an end to,
This I swear!
This I swear!
The sun will shine!
This I swear!
This I swear!
This I SWEAR!!!

i don't like the video that much, probably because i'm a girl, but for the guys, and those who want to listen to the song...

But morality is an issue because we have a conscience. People cannot fully enjoy something that conflicts with their conscience.

i don't equate my conscience with morality. morality is a set of rules that attempt to compensate or regulate what is wrong. my conscience says, "let's get rid of it".

that is a really good analogy. :)

I agree everything in this world belongs to God. Including us. God has however given us usage of the things of this world, including our own bodies to live our lives. It’s like a temporary loan. And yeah, as the scripture says God loves a cheerful giver.

2 Corinthians 9
7 So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.

i'm not saying there shouldn't be a cost. i'm saying that the cost should be worth it, and it should not be sold at a profit.

I think it should be given as a gift. I am sure if God has a message He wants all to know He will give those who He sends the means they need so they can give the message for free. I was given my bible, it was a gift from a friend and it was free.

i don't equate my conscience with morality. morality is a set of rules that attempt to compensate or regulate what is wrong. my conscience says, "let's get rid of it".

I think ones morality is a result of ones conscience. It is the product. But not the imposed morality from others. If one only pays respect to someone else’s morality then it is not theirs and is useless to them in the long run. Ones morals must be ones own, or in our case guided by the Holy Spirit. Maybe it is that you and i have developed a different view on what the word morality means.

and yet he did not ban us.

I think He did in some things. But what He has removed is the eternal consequence of our breaking the rules. Of course in this life we can suffer because of our explorations/ temptations ect.

1 Corinthians 6
12 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.

Ok two more songs. Digging wayyy back into the 1960's i think two singers called Simon and Garfunkle.

First song is to me Hope even when i am sad and feeling alone. Being a Christian means your mostly an outcast in society. Its probably the most "churchy" sounding song i like.

Bridge over troubled water

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjNgn4r6SOA&feature=related

When you're weary, feeling small
When tears are in your eyes,
I will dry them all
I'm on your side
When times get rough
And friends just can't be found

Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down

When you're down and out
When you're on the street
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you
I'll take your part
When darkness comes
And pain is all around

Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down

Sail on silver girl
Sail on by
Your time has come to shine
All your dreams are on their way
See how they shine
When you need a friend
I'm sailing right behind

Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind

Next one from them is a song that expresses for me the banality of much of what passes as media and communication in this world. So much communication but no one is saying anything of worth. So many people listening to shit. It seems they want to flood the world with so much uesless communication so as to block out things of real importance. To keep people blinded to keep them focused on a flood of verbal Diarrhea. Its sad.

Sound of Silence

Hello darkness, my old friend,
I've come to talk with you again,
Because a vision softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence.

In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone,
'Neath the halo of a street lamp,
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence.

And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more.
People talking without speaking,
People hearing without listening,
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence.

"Fools" said I, "You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you,
Take my arms that I might reach you."
But my words like silent raindrops fell,
And echoed
In the wells of silence.

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made.
And the sign flashed out its warning,
In the words that it was forming.
And the sign said, the words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls.
And whisper'd in the sounds of silence."

Everbody probably knows this one

They say there was a secret chord that David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this: the fourth, the fifth, the minor fall, the major lift,
The baffled King composing Hallelujah.
Hallelujah, Hallelujah (repeat)

Your faith was strong, but you needed proof, you saw her bathing on the roof,
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you.
She tied you to a kitchen chair, she broke your throne and she cut your hair,
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah.
Hallelujah, Hallelujah (etc)
