Folding@Home sciforum Team!

YETI@Home is a scientific experiment that harnesses the power of hundreds of thousands of Internet-connected computers in the search for giant ape-like creatures (YETI). We, the YETI team members who founded this experiment, are experts in the field of cryptozoology (the study of animals that do not exist).

maybe I should sign up on this one  :D

hey avatar! hopefuly u know a bit about avatars cause i have a question. is it possible to make an avatar smaller to fit the 40x40 guidelines or does it have to be 40x40 already?

I'm a hindu Avatar (temporary container for the essence of divinity) , not a digital image

Avatar,

Are you making fun of SETI? :D

greywolf,

its not hard to make a avatar, just use paintshop and you can reduce any image to the size you want.

Very funny... what’s logically wrong with SETI?

I just love this: take that you apple bastards!
Coming Soon! Download Version 1.00 of YETI@Home for: Windows, BeOs, OS2, Linux, Amiga Workbench, Atari ST, Altair, TRS-80, Vectrex, Babbage's Difference Engine, Palm Pilot, Sega Genesis and Timex Indiglo (sorry, not available for Macintosh).

ah.. I don't see the benefits

1. even if ETI are as close as 100lj (further and lightspeed communications don't seem too attractive) then they have to meet the odds that they are at the same technological level as us AND use radiotechnology. There has been done math on this and it didn't look promissing.
2. would we have anything to talk about? (why does everyone think that eti's would instantly/or ever send their science data to us? )

I see nothing that humanity would gain if discover those eti's if only the knowledge of eti existance. of course our defence budgets would go sky high and much would be given to science in order to develop space weapons. that seems cool and all. but I think that this folding project has a lot bigger chance of actually giving something to humanity (it already has) than searching for very unlikely seti signals with not accounted for local and interstellar impact.
imho we are not ready yet to handle such situation if only for our governments. humanity needs to grow up a little (also scientifically) before it can start playing mouse and cat with aliens. but maybe it is time. I really duno.
I said "logical error", but I don't have all the data on the subject. IF we HAVE a plan of action which ISN'T a global military panic and a new arms race, then ok. You can see that I'm most concerned with the actions of our governments, not aliens.
but maybe it is good if humanity get's notified. maybe that'd give us the time to prepare for a possible invasion or smthing.

think we must a plan. a global strategy. that's all.

if I were in charge of this planet, then our total science budget would be much greater and we'd have no need for aliens (for one reason or another)

os x issues

*installed as screensaver
*activates after 5 minutes
*display sleeps after 30

what is the status of ss when display sleeps?

It still running even if your display goes to sleep. If your computer enters sleep mode thats a diffrent issue, then it would stop.

not good team: Active CPUs within 50 days -> 5 (out of 11)
we need more recruits!

in other threads or forums //evil grin
we could try to persuade a few sciforum SETIsts :p

or advertise via PM! ;) Avatar you know how to do it now, just be careful your sent list does not go beyond one page or you will forget to match names and email people twice.

when does one show up in the stats?
why is the team name sciforum.com and not sciforums.com?
is it because the fetus is a dumbass? :)

1. some minutes after the first work unit is processed and transfered to the folding@home server
2. the answer is "yes" :p
