Do you love America?

Norse... you can't be that ignorant. There's 300 million people here, and that description hardly fits more than an (admitedly) pathetic part of the population. Would it be fitting if I called all Syrians a bunch of mysogynistic goat herders? No, it wouldn't, though that DOES describe a part of your population.

You act like the only thing kids do is run around using drugs. How is it that you ebb and flow from philosophical to bigoted in such a short span?

Yeah, there is a culture here. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean that it can be boiled down to what you see pouring out of Hollywood.

I mean the current America.

Of course, America does have quite alot of history (in such a short time span too), and has alot of American only stuff, but I just don't notice the kind of Patriotism, etc, that you see in other nations. There's something missing, I just don't know what it is.

Also, Syrians as goat herders? Perhaps a millenia ago, but that's the past man!

There's something missing, I just don't know what it is.

Well, I don't know what that is, since I've been two dozens of countries and outside of France and England, I never noticed a lick of patriotism in any form.

Also, Syrians as goat herders? Perhaps a millenia ago, but that's the past man!

Whatever, you get the picture. It's an inacurate description and is based on ignorance, so it only proves the point more.

Well, Websters.com defines country as:

So, I guess, I was just wondering if you love the country in which you live or were born in, or any country for that matter.

~String

Hmm love is such a big word.. using definition 2: compared to other countries I like the country in which I live.
But using definition 1: I like other countries better than my own. Norway and Sweden are examples.

I don't know , i don't actually love any country.. except maybe singapore.. but i live in Australia.....As for America,well... i can't judge a country based on a few perceptions, i'd have to live there too judge it.

I am a liberal and am very dissatisfied with the US, mainly the people! They have become so wimpish, whining at the least thing. I am truly sick of it. My wife and I have seriously considered moving out of the US.

When you are borne and raised in any nation, there will be an intrinsic love of that land, no matter what its flaws are.

Nope... 'patriotism' is learned. You don't automatically have love for a country. Usually by people that take advantage of it.

Wtf is that? The whole nation is imported, but they're all American. The Africans you speak of felt so African that they went back to where they came from at the first chance they got, lol. And they're no longer second-rate, not since affirmative action. Yes, U.S. gave you the modern definition of nationality as well.

Which brings me to the next point: U.S. government has a history of being one of the most responsive governments. The government in this country is better in touch with its people than governments in most countries. Change can be brought about relatively quickly here.

Honey, I suggest you start travelling and looking around a bit better.
US government the best in touch???? don't make me laugh! I recently visited this country of yours...your social securety system is the worst...I visited a hospital and it felt like being in Darfur.
I think New-Orleans proved that whites and blacks are far from equal.
Some self-critism wouldn't hurt you guys.

Re-iterating a post I made back on 9-11-07:

'As a lad, I saw a lot of poverty and despair abroad, and the knowledge of the chance blessing of being born an American was much like the knowledge of having hit a very large lottery. As an amatuer political scientist, I am proud of the political innovations of our Founders, and I'm proud that there still survives today a popular hunger for democracy and open government in the USA. The more I travel the USA, the more I am astounded at the natural beauty and bounty we enjoy here. The more I anguish at our acute faults and perils, the more I want for us to avoid tragedy. Two emotions are incredibly strengthened through adversity: Love, and hate. Like a man who had many choices, trials, and criticisms, yet decided to live here anyway once said, "Love is all you need".'

I see the USA entering a period of recession with pain and hope- My business life is suffering, but I am hopeful that we're going to begin some overdue national soul-searching, and recoil from our recent and disastrous regression into authoritarianism and empire. We're still learning and evolving, and I still love America and the USA.

No!
I have no love for America.
It is the land of extrems and is ruled by an extrem goverment.
And when the 3. world war comes, Im sure that it is the U.S.A. that will try to take over the world!

Of course you're entitled to that sentiment, YinyangDK but consider the pending expiration of our present extremist government. We're not going to stay on the corporate warpath much longer, because it isn't working for us. We're learning moderation without sparking a World War (although I admit we've recklessly threatened it, and committed crimes of war). Still other nations have done worse, and bear in mind that all people are vulnerable to getting drunk on excessive power and prominence. Our recent binge is coming to an end, and we'll be much too hung-over to take over much of anything for at least a lifetime. And don't forget, we are a world melting-pot, and our old dynasties are in deep trouble now.

May I remind you that most of your culture was imported from Africa and Europe. Chicago's skyline for instance was determinated by German architects. the Guggenheim in NYC is stuffed with European art...Blues, Jazz ad hiphop is an African American invention..the people you mostly see as 2nd rank.

The USA is the modern Rome....farmers that created their culture on anotherone.

Well, duh! That's what American culture is - a combination of European, African, and Asian cultures shaped by the experiences of the country and its people (all of whom are immigrants or descended from immigrants, except for the native Americans). Just because the roots of our culture are derived from other countries, that doesn't mean we don't have culture.
And no, most Americans do not see blacks as second-class citizens.

If by America you mean China, and by the world you mean Asia, then yes you are quite correct. :D

Affection, devotion, and hope for the future in the United States of America. It's hard to describe patriotism to someone who's never had it beat in their chest- like describing being in love to someone who has yet to experience it. You know it when you feel it, because it's an unusually intense emotion.
