Do you love America?

Soviet economy was breaking apart before Gorbachov. He tried to fix things, but it didn't work out all as he intended. Shit happens.

To seek help of one bully to use it against another doesn't mean that any of the bullies are lovable.
The US has a strong military and is very powerful, so of course smaller countries seek their support.

Nobody is asking you to love U.S. Nobody is asking you to hate your country.

You see, this very Soviet mindset that you have.... You think that because I say U.S. is a great country it must mean all other countries are bad. You shut your eyes to the problems of your country and spit at other countries, completely ignoring even your own country's foreign policy. That's ridiculous and dumb.

Thank you for recognizing our strength and political power. That's all that's necessary in international relations: respect; not love.

Yes, we have a huge problem of girl kidnapping in Europe. I kidnapped one yesterday. cuz that's what the 3rd world countries of Europe are all about.

<3 Don't deny that such things happen. I admit, my statement sounded a bit too much, I was in a rush. It happens to many girls; not all, not most, not absolutely everywhere, but to many girls in Europe and India.

some quotes

'gorbachev was letting communism fall in eastern europe in order to save it in Russia itself'

'gorbachev cannot take direct credit for what happened in 1989 - he did not plan it (he planned the opposite) and only hazily grasped its longterm import. But he was the permissive and precipitating causes. It was Mr Gorbachev's revolution.'

Searched the text for US influence. Couldn't find much in nearly 100 pages of text. I guess the historians need to be informed that the freedom of the USA brought down the iron curtain because how dare they claim that reality is real.

See my post 71. http://www.sciforums.com/showpost.php?p=1537715&postcount=71

p.s. It's funny to see you talking about "our strenght", etc. when you're just a first generation imigrant in her early 20s.

I saw that post.

I wish everyone would recognize that there are great and awful things about all countries. That way we could learn from each other. There are things that the entire former USSR could learn from American people, and vice versa. The skewed perception of stepping on toes needs to stop.

P.S. What? I apply "our" to anything in Latvia far more frequently.

Okay, that's one historian who (apparently?) thought that U.S. didn't interact with USSR at all and therefore had no influence on it whatsoever.

I know, the way USSR was set up ensured economic downfall in the long run. But, what, you're going to say that U.S. played no role in it whatsoever? Many Russians would argue that the current economic difficulties are the fault of the Clinton administration and the money it poured into Russia as "economic aid" (dear gods, does U.S. ever come out blameless).

I love this country, but hate this administration, so uh, by some people here, I guess that means I don't, or something..

The United States is the most important nation in the word and for a reason no European has, to my knowledge, ever given much thought..

America is an amalagram of the world, representing different cultures, races and faiths, each working together in an effort to get along as best they can. This is a social experiment unknown in human history and, to my mind, it cannot and should not fail.

But many are determined it shall. The Nazis, Fascists, Communists, and now the Muslims, within and without, all have had a go at taking this country apart, and failed. But if the United States fails who then will be next?

...The child mortality rate in the USA is the highest of all developed countries. You were not lucky to be born in the USA, you were lucky to have survived.

and I think its because we consider every kinda viable fetus a baby. We try and save 1 lb fetuses that should even be counted.

I see no good reason why 1lb foetuses shouldn't be included in the child mortality statistics but, in any case, surely they'd use the same standards for all the nations in the study in order to draw up the figures.. ?

Europe doesn't have immigrants or other cultures and is just made up of elite whities?

I think that it happens so that each country has statistics of child mortality.
Each country may have a different definition of what is a child.
Some mmight count 1month fetuses, others might count only failed child births and children up to an age of 1y.

So the actual number might be unknown. Actually there is no actual number, because the definition is subjective.
Furthermore = you can prove anything with statistics.

It depends

Before anything, however, I don't love America at all

But I don't hate it, since there is both no reason to love nor hate America

I do hate the Government of America

But I don't hate the civilians because, like all civilians, they are only living their lives trying to get a good life, nothing to blame 'em

And that's what I don't understand about AlQauda. You might be pissed that the US is in your territory, but why would ATTACKING CIVILIANS help? If anything, they should've attacked the GOVERNMENT. That's why they are terrorists

I think U.S, in this respect, has a distinct advantage over Europe due to its relative isolation. In my case i suppose i would love even Russia if that was my birthplace. What it all boils down to is culture. I love the American culture and the fact that it belongs, in some ways, to all of humanity. It is isolated but at the same time inclusive, it expresses the notion of send us you poor, you opressed etc.

The state has not always existed. Absense of state entities and national borders is our future.

In small parts...dotted around Europe.

Usually very troublesome and with more irritation between different factions and on a much smaller scale.
