Do you love America?

I love my country and not for the reasons most people do.

I probably hat my country for pleanty of reasons... but the whole love and hate thing seem to go together in pretty much all relationships.

If you are an american patriot with american tastes, you are going to love america and think it's the best no matter what else is out there.

It's like asking, 'do you love your family?'

So true. But, I also love a few other countries: the UK, Spain and France top my list. For different reasons, but I'd say that after the USA, I tend to have a pretty strong love affair with the UK... and Spain somewhere at a distant third.

The child mortality rate in the USA is the highest of all developed countries. You were not lucky to be born in the USA, you were lucky to have survived.

LOL! Well, if you (and I guess this is me cherry picking the whole thing) separate those who don't have health insurance from those who do, the US mortality rate is lower than most. This is more a measure of the healthcare available and not the healthcare provided.

The state has not always existed. Absense of state entities and national borders is our future.

Probably... maybe even hopefully, but certainly not for a while.

Culture? What culture in the USA?

If you mean an ignorant youth, with drugs and crime on the streets and alot of kids dropping out of school, etc, is "culture", then sure!

But like I said, I don't hate any civilian population. Civilians are civilians, they are just people

I don't hate Israel's civilians either. The men, women and children are just people, and they don't deserve to die.

I do hate Israeli/American Government, though.

America with no culture? The country that gave you blues, jazz, rock has no culture. The country that gave you airplanes has no culture. The country that gave you skyscrapers and the notion of a modern-day republic has no culture. Hah. Who gave you light bulbs? Who gave you computers and internet? Who gave you aliens to fear? All made possible through sponsorship of American government, through provisions of American constitution.

I know, when you travel around in such uneventful states like Illinois and Pennsylvania, it's hard to understand how such great ideas and inventions could've taken place in such an empty, low class, sweaty country. But that's exactly where it all happened.

Norse... you can't be that ignorant. There's 300 million people here, and that description hardly fits more than an (admitedly) pathetic part of the population. Would it be fitting if I called all Syrians a bunch of mysogynistic goat herders? No, it wouldn't, though that DOES describe a part of your population.

You act like the only thing kids do is run around using drugs. How is it that you ebb and flow from philosophical to bigoted in such a short span?

Yeah, there is a culture here. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean that it can be boiled down to what you see pouring out of Hollywood.

I guess we interpret equality in Europe not in the animal farmian way; some pigs are created more equal than others.

Health care for all baby! Well, that is, in the proper socialist nations. The rest still needs to learn. Many nations err. Many nations fail to see why they exist. It is not to be a superpower. A nation should strive to provide an excellent living environment for all citizens. And that is not even on the US agenda. The central dogma of the US' society is to provide a social structure that provides excellent living conditions for some.

And this is a major ideological difference between many European nations and the US. Equality is more important in many European nations than in the US, on more levels.

In the US you mostly have a chance to be equal. Not the right.

yes, i am liberal and damn proud of it. yes, i belive george bush is the single worst thing to have ever happened to this nation. yes i feel the iraq war was a disaster of epic proportion. yes, i love america.

What do you love about it? The word "America"? Do you love it for it's history? (if so how/why) The physical land? The people (aka the herd)?

This is directed to everyone that claims to love America

May I remind you that most of your culture was imported from Africa and Europe. Chicago's skyline for instance was determinated by German architects. the Guggenheim in NYC is stuffed with European art...Blues, Jazz ad hiphop is an African American invention..the people you mostly see as 2nd rank.

The USA is the modern Rome....farmers that created their culture on anotherone.

If you care to read the list there are a lot of countries that would supprise you.

I did read it. I need to know the criteria to be considered a developed country. Is Aruba a developed country?? They do better than us. Is Reunion a developed country?

In the United States we have lots of problems, but at least we air our dirty laundry. According to surveys of Americans, most feel the country is on the wrong path. It is the fault of our leadership. And while we may be slow sometimes (ie. George II), we do eventually fix things or at least that has been our history.

Wtf is that? The whole nation is imported, but they're all American. The Africans you speak of felt so African that they went back to where they came from at the first chance they got, lol. And they're no longer second-rate, not since affirmative action. Yes, U.S. gave you the modern definition of nationality as well.

Which brings me to the next point: U.S. government has a history of being one of the most responsive governments. The government in this country is better in touch with its people than governments in most countries. Change can be brought about relatively quickly here.

When you are borne and raised in any nation, there will be an intrinsic love of that land, no matter what its flaws are.

Beyond that, I love my people and my history (short as it may be). I love the core notion of this country: an evolving experiment in democracy and equality. Did it start out with some bad concepts? Is it still enormously flawed? Does it have a long way to go? Sure. But, the fact that it's a work in progress and has done just that, progressed--steadily and slowly--means something to me.

Define country..
I don't live in the US so naturally I don't love it, I'm not against it either though..

Well, Websters.com defines country as:

1 : an indefinite usually extended expanse of land : REGION <miles of open country>
2 a : the land of a person's birth, residence, or citizenship b : a political state or nation or its territory
3 a : the people of a state or district

So, I guess, I was just wondering if you love the country in which you live or were born in, or any country for that matter.
