An omnipotent life form cannot really be defied.
An evil omnipotent God could mess with your mind and make you do awful things.

An omnipotent life form granting people to think for themselves could (as is usually -if not always- the claimed case).

An omnipotent life form granting people to think for themselves could

And why would "an omnipotent life form granting people to think for themselves" want anyone to peel the skin off a newborn baby?

To test them?
To be willing to risk that they would actually do it?

Hmm interesting twist..

I am very much into survival. The weird thing perhaps, (or not), is that I would consider the survival of my children ultimately as my own survival thus if it came to it I would let them peel my skin off.

If it's someone elses kid my survival remains more important.

Why would an omnipotent life form want to torture trillions of humans for eternity? Whatever the answer is, I am sure it applies to your question.

I agree though, but I don't know if I could bring myself to carry out such an horrendous act.

I think I answered wrong.

I would most likely peel the skin off a newborn baby if my life or the life of my loved ones depended upon it. When I made the choice I was under the impression it was my baby in which case I wouldn't.

In what scenario would that ever happen??

Theists and non-theists, under what circumstances would you (if at all) torture a newborn baby to death by peeling off its skin?
I think you'll find not too many theist will answer the poll. They can not condone skinning a baby YET if God told them to they should then do it. I'm curious what first entered their mind. Burning in HELL for refusing to? Did they think - Well I won't do it if I don't burn in HELL but if I'm going to burn in HELL.... hand me the knife God Damn it!

...They can not condone skinning a baby YET if God told them to they should then do it. ....

a theist would never believe God asked them to do such a thing. It would be the devil in disguise trying to trick them.
The ones who would do it are insane. (look at the people that kill their babies saying god told them to or that the devil was in them)

I dunno.. plane crash, survivors are me and someone elses young child. Very hungry, must eat to survive...

These are mental excercises, not "but when would that happen?!"

I've had people ask whether the borg would defeat the goa'uld - which also would never happen... Whether it would or wouldn't happen is not the point.

However, I'm sure once upon a time Abraham was sitting down with some dudes round the campfire when one said: "what would you do is god told you to murder your own son".. Abraham was like: "pfft, that would never happen". :bugeye:

Furthermore god has instructed people to stone their own children to death so it's not exactly a far reach.

An absence of response from theists could be interpreted as embarassment of the truth or incomplete committment to their respective 'God'(s).

Why? God asked for a human sacrifice once. Also, God is more than willing to kill off most of humanity - via a natural disaster of course - aka flood (I've often wondered why God didn't simply make the women barren?).

Anyway, I see your point BUT if the question was really raised - Would Theists do it? I think most would say YES they would. (mind you, if it came to it most couldn't do it)

MII

I suppose the underlying question is: Will you kill innocent people for you God? Some people say yes and do it. But, because most people will say no usually the person must be convinced that the victim isn't really innocent at all. A heretic, witch, infidel, "terrorist" or the like so to speak.
