The Syrian "Revolution": A Farce from Beginning to End

Important:

Taken from the link that I've provided, above:

The United States should not take the law into its own hands and unilaterally attack Syria. We are not the world's policeman. We should support the rule of law and see to it that Assad is charged, arrested and convicted of crimes against humanity for using poison gas on his own citizens.

Bashar Hafez al-Assad is the President of Syria and Regional Secretary of the Syrian-led branch of the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party. He has served as President since June 10, 2000, when he succeeded his father, Hafex al-Assad, who ruled Syria for 30 years prior to his death.

Bashar al-Assad personally signed the Rome Statute for Syria on November 29, 2000. The Rome Statute created the International Criminal Court. Although the Syrian parliament never ratified the Rome Statute, the fact that Assad himself signed it should give the International Criminal Court jurisdiction over Mr. Assad.

The International Criminal Court is a permanent tribunal to prosecute individuals for genocide , crimes against humanity , war crimes and the crime of aggression . The Court is located inThe Hague , Netherlands, The Office of the Prosecutor is responsible for conducting investigations and prosecutions. It is headed by the Chief Prosecutor,

One of the great innovations of the Statute of the International Criminal Court and its Rules of Procedure and Evidence is the series of rights granted to victims. For the first time in the history of international criminal justice, victims have the possibility under the Statute to present their views and observations before the Court.
What crime did he commit? It was his brother who over rode Assads's orders wasn't it?

I woke up this morning and even on CNN they said the Americans can live with Assad staying in power, now that is the first time I heard that from the US and that was after what I had said on the thread, so I'm not copying.
Yes he doesn't want democracy but there comes a time when rulers have to come to their senses.
I think he realizes now the time is ready for a change, at least he is still in control. So he can have the role as President but the people are ruled by the elected Parliament.
I think this is a fair outcome. If the plan can be made to work 100% of the CW will be destroyed whereas a military strike would have only taken out 15 -30% of them. ( figures from Amanpour this morning)
Aw, Americans can ''live'' with Assad in power? Like they turned a blind eye when the holocaust was going on too, during WWII? That's such a touching news report.

Speculation...and if so...It happened on Assad's watch. Kick them both out. Assad and /or his brother and the regime should not be permitted to stay in power.

There are mad men in power in many countries. The US is not the world's policeman so just live with it. The international community has to be given a conscience to look after the issues. Everyone was getting sick of US bullying everyone around. Obama has been great so far. Getting the US a lot of respect, already got the Nobel Peace Prize and he definitely is more Christian than most Muslims.

This has nothing to do with Obama. Wow!
Tell this post of yours to the families who lost their loved ones in the chemical attacks.
Assad needs to be tried for crimes again humanity.

There were 1000 odd deaths in the chemical attack but hundreds of thousands of deaths and 6 million refugees displaced before that. Get the whole picture into perspective. It is a trigger, a red line but 1 death is no more important than another. I know where you are coming from, and I agree it is horrible. But there is a bigger game going on over and above the Syrian civil war.

Assad needs to be removed and brought to justice. He goes back to his life as reigning over Syria? Why do you not want to see this man and his regime brought to justice? Not through war, through a trial?

This is how evil prevails!

The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded for getting elected, he might as well have found it in a cereal box. Frankly I think he should have got the peace prize for going into Pakistan and taking out Bin Laden without starting another war, but the point is moot. I don't see what's so Christian about passively ignoring brutal tyranny, unless you're getting into the whole "render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's" part.

There is no chance of democratic or otherwise representative government in Syria while Assad holds power. He is an Alewite with a long list of personal Sunni victims harboring genuine grievances, and the great majority of the citizens of Syria are Sunni.

Only chance you'll get of an elected Alawi leader is someone who defected to the rebels early in the fighting, and even then it's a longshot.

The forces are still on the ready. So it is not passive, but threatening. I read some US citizens were questioning whether Obama is a Muslim like his father. But one way or other he is showing true Christ like behaviour of listening to his conscience. He couldn't guarantee a successful outcome of an air strike, but an agreement is being reached, one that is near impossible unless there is a ceasefire. Well, then the next step is to get the ceasefire or US will stir trouble again. So a ceasefire is a vital next step to get the CW safely contained. IMO anyway.
Let's all pray for a ceasefire. "Stop firing!"

Maaaaybe. It's possible but a long card at this point.

Eh?

You can serve him his notice by airdrop, that way his gunmen won't be able to intercept it.

Tsk.

Obama had better not walk the streets of Washington then.
He has a lower approval rating in the United States than Assad in Syria.

The Guardian poll you cite is from 18 months ago, and it was just one poll conducted in the midst of a war zone. A slim majority of those polled preferred that Assad stay in power, but of those polled, half of them want him to quickly pave the way for political parties and free elections, and Assad's only purpose would be to prevent a civil war in the interim. Maybe Assad didn't like his poll numbers and decided to gas his people back to their senses. As for Obama's approval ratings, I'm sure they'll spike again as soon as the next Republican presidential hopeful says something outlandishly crazy or insensitive and more people remember why they voted for Obama in the first place.
