BTW...I wonder if Paul wrote the story for Odyssey (Showtime series)...the premise is, a physics experiement ran amok and destroyed the planet...a good story. Could happen...someday...
I also wonder why Paul is not complaining about people who are running experiments to stretch the fabric of space!

Many, many thanks to everyone for their most prompt action in this tragic concern.
The Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory is again increasing these vast energies in the CDF with 31.82E30 luminosity at some 2(978.23) GeV. Current work in astrophysics shows that solar systems with a plethora of different planetary types may form in as short an interval as a few hundred years. (Thursday, November 28 Planets form in the wink of cosmic eye, Thomas Quinn, Science, Novemeber 28, 2002) Thus the essential postulation of a large number of planetary systems being formed that would be capable of developing sentient life-forms is supported by this derivation.
Within the entelechy of our universe, we may note the progression of Type Ia supernovae. The presence of these standard candles having origin since the beginning of the universe is here postulated to be evidence of high-energy physics experimentation laboratory mischances. From an eschatological perspective, under this postulation, species must show a unified and cooperative understanding in order to prevent speices extinction from a Darwinian perspective. Do we then have enough collective intellectual and moral resoources and ability to prevent the generation of Type Ia Suprtnovae from high-energy physics research? What will the judgement of history portray for mankind in this regard? "At the dawn of the 21st centry, we have reached the point where every individual fate is tied directly and vitally to the greater group of all humanity and the larger sphere of the entire natural world." If you access the Accelerator Update for the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, it is clear that the staff at Fermilab are working at the limits of modern science in their work on the Tevatron. As Dr. Mao who directs the work on the Tevatron has indicated it is not just like, "turning on a toaster," to make this apparatus work.
On the other hand, it mght be concuded that if a transition is formed to de Sitter space this would be indeed be a toaster of cosmic proportions!
Additional study in physics and mathematics is always useful when exploring the limits of high-energy physics.

In many situations, I've seen people as a whole ignore the warnings of a single guy labeled a "fruitcake", and things happen.
When the Challenger exploded for example in 1986, there were a tiny number of Morton Thiokol technicians who worked on the Shuttle's O-Rings who had specifically stated that the conditions the orbiter had been exposed to the night before as well as the faulty design of the O-ring would cause it to fail during flight and the orbiter would be destroyed. They were ignored by NASA and their superiors, labeled "crackpots" and shoved up against the pressure of keeping NASA's launch scedule.
Sometimes the person who is right stands alone. Dixon might not be right, but I'm not going to dismiss what he has said just because of concensus either.

No, instead you should dismiss what he says because it rarely makes any sense; he throws about terms like "de Sitter space" and "supernova" without any real understanding at all of what the terms mean. Unlike the Morton Thiokol employees, Dixon has arrived at his premise (that the Tevatron will destroy the Universe) through no scientific or intellectual endeavor. Instead, he simply got the idea, convinced himself of it, and now attempts to convince us.

In this sense, therefore, this thread is only to remind those in the field of high-energy physics that those energies now employed are of cosmological significance. Training in modern physics is narrowly specialized and this reminder is appropos to this most grave difficulty. We need only postulate that this primoridial region of vast energies termed de Sitter space shows variation over time to concur with the statement of Dr. Richard Feynman, Noble Prize winner in Physics that an experiment which is safe at time A may not be so at time B. Please, therefore, take some additional time to study in both mathematics and physics for this understanding.
