In 1988, Angela Valdez, suffered a miscarriage after she was shot in the abdomen with a taser. The news media did pick up this story, and it is printed in the Orlando Sentinel, 6/16/1991. Another U.S. woman suffered a miscarriage the day after taser darts sent a current across her uterus, according to the New Scientist, 8/11/2001. Then, on December 11, 2001, police in Chula Vista, CA shot a six months pregnant woman in the stomach with a taser. Four days later she delivered a stillborn girl, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune, 6/29/2002.
so that's what? 3 deaths in 18 years?
MY GOD IT'S A SLAUGHTER!!!!!!!!

edit:
was the taser the sole cause?

in every one of these cases the police had a valid reason to use force.

edit
there was a man getting married. wasn't breaking the law.
the cops crashed the wedding and arrested the man.
reason? they had a warrent for his arrest.

it doesn't matter who, what, where, or when you are, if you break the law the cops will be on you like flies on shit.

it's really disturbing how you deal in sensationalism sam.

Anyway, what do you think could be done so pregnant women and young children are spared such horrors? Do you have any ideas?
yes. don't resist arrest. don't be a threat to yourself or others.

you have not provided one scrape of evidence that these people were not breaking the law. the sole case that i agree was police brutality was the man on the gurney, and like i said earlier even that may have been legit.

Yeah, and worse, she's pretty damned good at keep at it, too! She loves to stir the pot of sensationalism ....yet we all keep responding.

It's the same philosophy that the terrorists use regularly ...creating a sensationalist view of some happening so as to arouse our natural "defenses".

You guys need a new slogan, nobody seems to have much faith in truth and justice anymore anyway. How about a national slogan "We don't do body counts". Everyone could use it. The pro-gun lobby, the fascists in government, the war on terror (haha) the trigger happy schoolkids and even the taser-happy cops.

The answer to the original question is a nobrainer. I will summarize it:

It is much better for everyone in the long run if cops use taserguns instead of real guns. Sure shit happens occasionally and some innocent die, but there are way more people safed/less hurt on both sides (cops/offenders) by using them.

Also people die in under any circumstances. A guy can have a sizeure or heartattack during a normal arrest, you just never know. And usually tasers are/should be used when the offender is under the infuence of some kind of substance and can not be talked into behaving like a normal person.

Sam, millions of Indians (of all religious persuasions) run away from India to come to U.S, it is not the other way around. Can't get around that fact.

Yes we Indians "teach democracy" without an army, we don't need body counts.:)

Hmm, then what is all that news we keep hearing about in India with blowing up trains and such? And we keep hearing about Muslims attacking others? And we hear of riots and demonstrations being put down by India's "army" shooting into the crowds? Is taht the "democracy" that you mentioned?

And let's not forget the wonderful, peaceful Indians who have nukes in their arsenal, and they keep firing off missiles to test the delivery systems! And who are at constant conflict with their nuclear-capable neighbor, Pakistan.

Oh, and what's the plight of the "Untouchables" these days? Oh, sure, there are new laws, but aren't they still being discriminated against in reality?

And how's the level of poverty and starvation in some of the "camps" in places like Calcutta? Has this wonderous peace and democracy solved all of those problems in India?

Yeah, India is about as peaceful and democratic as ....hmmm???? :)
