Nobody posted. You people suck. Fine. I'll keep going.
We parked the cruiser in the grass off of the road. We got out, and walked the rest of the way towards the grand stairs of the main entrance. I didn’t realize how bad my back felt until I took about a dozen steps. I almost fell over. When we came closer to the stairs, we saw several bald dark skinned men in robes rushing down carrying a stretcher. By the time we got to the foot of the stairs, the men were already loading me on. On our ascent, one of the men put his hand on my forehead. We got closer to the main door when I began feeling very drowsy. I looked back at Capri following behind us at a slower pace. That was the last thing I remembered before the darkness hit.
I awoke in a sunlit room with wooden floors. I was lying on a white mattress on the floor. A fan was blowing a gentle breeze at me. But the one thing that came to my attention most was how great I felt. I felt like a million credits. A billion credits. My back no longer bothered me in the slightest. My body was fresh clean, and I was wearing a clean white gown.
“Your clothes have been disposed of. There is a new outfit for you there on the dresser,” said Capri with a smile. “It should fit just fine. After all, I was the one that measured you.”
Capri stood up from the padded foot stool she was sitting on beside my bed. I took a deep breath, and gave her a smile. “How long was I out?” I asked.
“No more than a day,” she replied.
“I feel amazing,” I told her.
“You look amazing,” she said with a giggle. “I never doubted Mama Fortuna for a second.”
Capri walked towards the door. “I will have a meal prepared for you. When you come out, just follow the stairs down. Mama Fortuna would like to see you as soon as you are finished eating. Your new assistant is Kudoz. He is out getting you a PCU. He should be back with it by the time your meeting with Mama Fortuna is complete.”
I gave her my thanks, and she replied smiling with, “not necessary.”
I got up, took off my gown, and started donning my new outfit. The white pants were made of a light material, and fit loosely. The white shirt was made of the same material with long sleeves, and small fasteners down the middle. The sneakers were light and comfortable. Everything fit just right.
I went out the room door, and slid it shut. The hallway was also well lit with wooden floors, and there were stairs on the right. The stairs came down into a cozy dining room with stone floors and a wooden table at the center. I saw a young dark haired girl coming out through what I guessed could only be the kitchen door with two plates of hot food.
“Just in time,” she said smiling. “I am Alma, the assistant cook.” She put the plates on the table. “Just call me if you need anything,” she said.
“Thank you, Alma. Nice to meet you,” I said.
She turned around, and went back through the door as Capri made her way out from the kitchen. We both sat down, and started eating. “I’m starving,” she said with her mouth full. There was a pitcher of water on the middle of the table, and I poured some into my cup after I took a few bites. The food was really good, so I said, “This food is really good.”
Capri finished before I did, and waited for me to get done. I cleaned out my entire plate, and drank a few glasses of water. It was pretty filling. “Do you need to use the restroom?” asked Capri.
“Yes,” I told her. “I would like to wash up real quick before my meeting.”
Capri showed me the washroom, and I took a few moments to get cleaned up. Then I followed her down a few halls, rooms, and up some stairs to Mama Fortuna’s quarters.
It was a large room at the rear of the building. Light beamed through the large windows. There was no furniture. Only at the rear of the room was a mat with a cushion, and other cushions in front of it. And there on the mat with her legs crossed sat Mama Fortuna. . .
