That's true, it was an amazing victory. The Arabs were uncoordinated and overconfident, they were about to slaughter the Jews. It's a good thing the Jews won. Capturing land is a defensive move. When police "secure" an area, it's the same thing, make sure an attack can't come from there. They gave most of it back.

Capturing land is in offensive move period. It can be used in a larger defensive context but it is offesive by its very nature. It wasn't amazing victory it was almost a forgone conclusion.
