Minerva SA, Brazil’s third-largest beef producer, climbed to a 16-month high on speculation the ban will lift sales. Banvit Bandirma Vitaminli Yem Sanayii Ticaret AS, a Turkish chicken breeder, added 4.1 percent.

{but} Marine Harvest ASA, the world’s largest salmon farmer, posted the biggest decline in almost three years in Oslo.
Well that and it takes time to grow cows and crops.
Something like 6 weeks from egg to exportable chicken for frying. Brazil has world's largest cattle herd. Slight increase in the slaughter rate will have no long term effect - production is pasture limited.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-08-07/mcdonald-s-supplier-in-brazil-jumps-after-russia-food-import-ban.html said:
Retailers in Russia can replace food imports from “places like Turkey, Egypt, Argentina and Brazil,” Natalia Kolupaeva, an analyst at ZAO Raiffeisenbank in Moscow, said by telephone. “For countries like Latvia and Poland, there will be big material losses.” Chilean salmon producers Empresas AquaChile SA and Multiexport Foods SA rallied. Russia accounts for 6 percent of Chile’s salmon exports, with 17,145 tons sold in the first half of the year, according to data from industry group SalmonChile.

Brazil sees an opportunity to boost beef, pork, poultry, corn and soybean exports to Russia because of the U.S. and European ban, agriculture policy secretary Seneri Paludo said. “That’s a good opportunity for Brazilian exporters,” said Sandro Fernandes, a trader at brokerage firm Geraldo Correa in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. “Investors are optimistic about the prospects of their sales to Russia now.”

Agriculture companies from Norway to Poland to Lithuania slumped on dimmed sales prospects after Russia’s ban on food imports from the U.S. and Europe while a Brazilian meatpacker and a Turkish chicken producer rallied.
Brazil already ship beef to Russia - until yesterday only 30 producers were qualified, now 50 are.

I'm curious how Putin expects those brazillian consumables will reach Russia? ...
Same way they do now.

“Brazil will substantially increase its meat and dairy exports,” Brazilian Agriculture Minister Neri Geller said in a statement. “What we see is a window of opportunity,” said Ricardo Santin, vice president for poultry at the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein, which represents chicken and pork producers.

Brazil exports $8 billion worth of chicken each year, but Russia currently accounts for only 3 percent of that. In 2013, Brazil's Russian chicken sales amounted to 47,000 metric tons, worth $130 million to $150 million.
{Billy T notes this can quckily expand to billion dollar/ per year rate. Nothing like a dose of current reality to counter false speculation.}

The country exported 134,000 metric tons of pork to Russia in 2013, which accounted for 26 percent of its exports.

Brazil’s beef industry is also looking for a boost. It sold 303,000 metric tons of beef to Russia last year, worth $1.2 billion.

Coming after the July summit held in Brazil for leaders of the BRICS countries – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa — and the announcement of a BRICS bank*, the potential export windfall is being seen as an economic victory for Brazil.
SUMMARY:
Billions of dollars that went to EU, and some to US, will now flow to Brazil, making the BRICS union stronger, faster and helping to kill the Petrodollar system.

* Now capitalized at 100 billion dollars equivalent, a World bank /IMF alternative not controlled by the USA

Argentina is also ready for the supply.

I am thinking that someone should fill the niche of medical equipment, but can someone else besides EU/USA fill that niche for Russia?

Current highest Imports for Russia:
(Machines, engines, pumps at $9.8 billion in import) (Vehicles at $7.3 billion in import) (pharmaceuticals at $3.1 billion in import) (medical equipment at $1.8 billion in import)

It becomes clear that "Machines, engines, pumps" as well as "pharmaceuticals and medical equipment" are the highest priority for Russia to find alternate countries.

----

Russia imports from USA:

Machines, engines, pumps are imported from USA at $3.3 billion and Vehicles at $3.2 billion.

These are the highest priority to be switched to alternate countries. Also I suspect Mexico should be withheld from that list, because I am sure USA has control of the market there.

---

Sanctions should be put on these companies: GM and Ford, PepsiCo and CocaCola as soon as possible to create a shock effect.

Yes. China exports high quality medical technology Globally now. See: http://www.mindray.com/en/aboutus/aboutus.html

Mindray was founded in 1991 with the goal of delivering high-quality, competitively priced medical devices to make healthcare more accessible and affordable around the world. In 2006, we were listed on the New York Stock Exchange and are now a leading, worldwide developer, manufacturer and marketer of medical devices. Mindray has always given top priority to product quality and was one of the first medical equipment* companies in China to obtain TUV ISO9001/13485 Certification, CE mark and FDA approval.

Also China is a world leader in vaccine production. Bill Gates & Wife's foundation buys mainly if not exclusively from China as quality is highest and they can much more quickly develop vaccine for new stains. They made world's most effective swine flue vaccine is 6 weeks, not the 6 months or more it would have taken in the west.

* there is reasonable chance that if you had, even in the US, some ultra sound exam, by the latest and best equipment, Mindray supplied it - cheaper and better.

I own 100 sh of MR. here are some old notes in my file on them:
Mindray is a global Chinese medical devices company. It operates through three segments: Patient Monitoring and Life Support Products, In-Vitro Diagnostic Products and Medical Imaging Systems. Besides China, Mindray operates in North America, Europe and other Asian countries. The company’s products hold a roughly 40% share of the Chinese healthcare market. Although Mindray’s strength is currently in the low and mid-end segments, the company is looking to carve a niche in the high-end markets. Moreover, Mindray is well positioned to benefit from the health care reforms in China.
26Jan11: (MR*-*Snapshot Report) has sealed the biggest contract for its patient monitoring systems in Canada with more than 90 patient monitors already installed at one of the three parts of Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Quebec (“CHUQ”), a network of three hospitals providing general and specialty care for patients throughout the metropolitan region of Quebec and Eastern Quebec. Canada is among the company’s major non-US markets.
21Dec11: entered into an agreement with Novation allowing its more than 65,000 members and affiliates to purchase Mindray's M7 and M5 ultrasound systems. Based in*Irving, Texas, Novation develops and manages competitive contracts with more than 600 suppliers. VHA, UHC and Provista members used Novation contracts to purchase nearly*$40 billion*in products and services in 2010.
Mindray acquired controlling interest in TDR. TDR's strength in reagents is expected to complement Mindray's strength in analyzers. Hunan China based TDR is a domestic manufacturer of microbiology analysis solutions that specialize in microbial identification and antibiotic susceptibility testing via blood culture system used to perform antibiotic susceptibility testing. They use the blood culture system to recover pathological organisms with rapid results and continuous-monitoring blood. In 2010 these systems were ~$139 million*in*China and projected to grow 15-20% annually. Internationally, the market was estimated at $2.25 billion*in 2010 and is expected to grow 5% annually.

They are one of my many "buy hold forget" companies in a very diversified portfolio. - I have no idea how they are doing now.

It sounds like Donetsk is on the verge of collapse. Ukraine reports Putin's irregular troops in Donetsk are in a state of panic and fleeing the battle. That is all good news for the people of Ukraine. For days now Russia has been threatening to send in an "aid" mission under the auspices of the Red Cross into Ukraine which would have been a tremendous escalation as the aid would probably have consisted mostly of arms and troops. But the Red Cross hasn't said a thing about the supposed Russian aid mission as if they were not aware of it. Now it appears Ukraine has come to an agreement with Russia on aid. The aid must be under the auspices of the Red Cross and aid does not include military aid.

No not really, medical equipment especially high end medical equipment is manufactured by American and European countries. Those companies may have manufacturing facilities in other nations some of which may not be affected by sanctions, that equipment still cannot be legally exported to Mother Russia. We are not really talking about niches, we are talking about products.

Russia can put sanctions on whomever it wants. But the bottom line is it will have little effect on Western powers. The unpleasant fact for you is that any sanction Russia chooses to impose, it will hurt Russia the most. And Russia’s attempts to circumvent Western sanctions will be thwarted. The West has become pretty good at using economic sanctions to replace actual warfare.

Western sanctions affect all goods produced by Western countries and the companies who operate in Western countries, even if the goods are not produced in Western countries. And then you have trade treaties which forbid patent infringements. Mother Russia is SOL as long as it continues to operate as a rogue state. Argentina by the way, just defaulted on its debt. So if you are planning on being saved by a defaulted state, I think you are severely deluded.

Putin said he is sending an aid column led by the Red Cross to Ukraine. He apparently just forgot to tell the Red Cross they are leading this column of his. This aid column is already enroute, Oops. You would think if the Red Cross were leading a humanitarian relief column, they would know about it.

Putin seems to be very intent on sending in this "humanitarian relief column". And timing is a little suspicious. Putin's irregular troops operating as rebels are on their last leg. Donestk and Luhansk are expected to fall within days.

It will be interesting to see if this " aid" column materializes and what form it will take. Is it an attempt by Putin to save his irregular forces and prolong the fighting? Is it a cover to bring his uniformed troops into the fray?

Red Cross is controlled by the West, they are going to infiltrate the rebel groups and blow up the energy substations while spying and ultimately supplying food for a show.

It will be interesting to see if this reuters media attack on Russian humanitarian aid to East Ukraine will be used for another provocation by the West.

LOL, the truth is not a conspiracy, and only in places like Russia and North Korea is the truth a provocatation.

your version of truth is televized by CNN and we all know how well CNN "knows the world".

Actually CNN is one of the best news services in the world, and CNN is not alone in reporting these developments. The Western press is free to print whatever they please. It's that free press thingy which gives tyrants like Putin the heebee jeebees.

http://www.dw.de/kyiv-puts-brakes-on-russian-aid-convoy/a-17847357 http://www.huffingtonpost.com/huff-wires/20140812/eu--ukraine/?utm_hp_ref=world&ir=world

Here is another funny thing. Mother Russia said it will take several days to travel the 640 miles to the Ukranian border. Now in the Western world that trip would take a day. The roads in the greatest country in the world (i.e. Russia) must be crap.

It's also odd that even though the convoy has departed and is enroute, Mother Russia claims to not know where the convoy will cross the border. Another odd thing that strikes me about the trucks is that they are loaded in a haphazard manner, leaving plenty of room for men and weapons. Not to mention the fact they would likely lose most of the load before they even got close to the border.

Another oddity about the released video is the conspicuous absence of Red Cross personnel. All one could see is uniformed Russian troops. One would think, if the Red Cross is organizing and running the relief column as Russia claims, one would see some Red Cross people.

All once could see is fake orchestrated propaganda **** from West every day.

no duh Europe doesn't want Russia to be seen as good guys. And Red Cross is just another political tool with its own agenda.
So every organization in the world - except Putin's - is a political tool who hates Russia and is lying about what happened to advance their own agenda.

your statement is logically invalid assumption.

No assumptions, just a statement on your outlook. Every time you see a news story that disagrees with accepted Russian propaganda, you declare it to be "lies" from a "political tool" with a "western agenda" or something. You accept everything Putin says as gospel and reject any facts that do not support his ascendancy. That's been demonstrated in dozens of posts now.

Meanwhile you accept everything your media tells you as "Putin is evil". No questioning, no trying to understand the situation and possible scenarios.
