More Ukrainian Events

Meanwhile you accept everything your media tells you as "Putin is evil". No questioning, no trying to understand the situation and possible scenarios.

Actually, unlike Putin, we don't have a media. Unfortunately for you and Putin the Western, the International press, has hard evidence to back up their reporting.

probably over European airspace right?...
The shortest great circle air route (Sao Paulo to Moscow) does cut across Italy, a little south of Rome, but I think air freight costs are much more than refrigerated ships. Thus, from any point on Brazil's coast, they travel in international waters directly to Russia's large port in Crimea.

First, let's get real. Putin is the one imposing food sanctions on his people. Unless Brazil has huge stockpiles of fruits ,vegetables, and meats or has substancial excess capacity, it will take time and capital to bring that production on line. And as a capitalist, why would I make that investment to capitalize on a short term phenomenon which could vanish as quickly as it appeared? Why would I endanger my long term viability for a sanction which could disappear in a day or a week or a month?

I wouldn't'. Putin's sanctions could drive up food prices in Brazil if he actually does enforce his sanctions. But I don't think Putin is that stupid. But I could be wrong. Maybe he is that stupid.

If Putin actually wants to voluntarily pay higher food prices, that will inflict more damage on an already severely damaged Russian economy, so be it.

“Brazil will substantially increase its meat and dairy exports,” Brazilian Agriculture Minister Neri Geller said in a statement. “What we see is a window of opportunity,” said Ricardo Santin, vice president for poultry at the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein, which represents chicken and pork producers.

Brazil exports $8 billion worth of chicken each year, but Russia currently accounts for only 3 percent of that. In 2013, Brazil's Russian chicken sales amounted to 47,000 metric tons, worth $130 million to $150 million.
{Billy T notes this can quckily expand to billion dollar/ per year rate. Nothing like a dose of current reality to counter false speculation.}

The country exported 134,000 metric tons of pork to Russia in 2013, which accounted for 26 percent of its exports.

Brazil’s beef industry is also looking for a boost. It sold 303,000 metric tons of beef to Russia last year, worth $1.2 billion.
Brazil is a larger agricultural exporter. Putin's Russia may need to bid a little higher than others to increase Russia's share of Brazil's exports. 97 % of Brazil's chicken exports currently do NOT go to Russia. That could drop to 94% and double the exports to Russia. Also poultry production can expand very rapidly without significant capital cost - just a little more feed cost. Brazil, like India, has huge food loses - The production is always more than the demand - that keeps food prices low as farmers compete for market. Yes if Russia were to buy say 10% of Brazil's production, local prices might rise 1%, but with greater balance of payments surplus the Real would get stronger and effect on inflation might be to lower that. (Greater purchasing power for Brazil's currency.) - I don't like that as brought $10,000 green dollars back from july visit to USA and will not get as many Real for them.

Beef production is very elastic. You can sell a four year old steer or fatten him up more and sell when 8 years old. - Probably the average age of Brazil's herd will drop slightly in first 6 months of sales to Russia but more calves will be born and if sales continue larger, the total population will return to normal (world's largest herd).

Etc. - No problem and very little capital required to send more food to Russia, for greater sales and greater profits. - Not just my opinion, but that of the agriculture ministry and private experts. Are you an agriculture expert in conflict with the majority or just blowing hot air nonsense?

that is an on-line post by Craig Botham, an emerging markets economist for Schroders, a U.K. investment bank. Not an agricultural expert. They contradict him.

Further more he states nonsense: "“Domestic consumption exceeds production for a number of the banned items," - not even possible unless Brazil were importing those un-named items. Perhaps he was too late buying stock in some of Brazil's food exporters - missed the surge up in prices and is trying to beat their prices back down - with silly fabrications.

And that explains why you are not an economist.

And the mystery continues, the Russian relief column which was suppose to be supervised by the International Red Cross, but in reality hasn't even seen the relief column, changes course for a destination unknown. Russia isn't saying where the relief column will cross the border or even when it will cross the Ukrainian border - odd for a supposedly simple humanitarian relief column. Ukraine is insisting that the cargo is inspected, as is the norm, when it enters Ukrainian land and turned over to the International Red Cross for distribution. That inspection seems to be a problem for Mother Russia and causing Putin great angst. After repeatedly claiming that the relief was conducted under the auspices of the International Red Cross, Mother Russia seems to have great difficulty letting the International Red Cross even get near the "humanitarian" relief column. Thus far the only people who have been given access to the "humanitarian" relief column is the Russian military. If the "humanitarian" relief column is what Putin says it is, why the secrecy? Why is Russian/Putin so reluctant to allow the "humanitarian" relief column to be inspected at the Ukrainian border? Why is it he has not allowed the International Red Cross to be involved in any way with the relief column while repeatedly falsely claiming the column was under the supervision of the International Red Cross? Could this be more of Putin's trickery - more of the Russian Army that isn't the Russian Army?

Where exactly in Crimea is that? I'm not saying your wrong but it doesn't appear to be Sevastopol nor does it affect their economy like it would with Antwerp or Rotterdam remember it has to be big enough to support 114 million people then theirs the fact you have to pass the Bosphorus, istanbul (Turkey) Then theirs the fact that a nation on unfriendly terms (Ukraine) can simply switch of the lights if they pleases then theirs the distribution problem that the cargo will probably pass trough war torn Ukraine on it's way to Russia (Those are 4 extra pay checks passage from Turkey Eletricity from Ukraine, passage trough Ukraine, passage trough Donetsk republic) and most possible it will be stolen right before the border.
Saint petersburg possess somewhat similar problems with Denemark (you have to pass trough denmarks waters to reach it).
Planes also would need to fly over Europe (or Turkey that's not a given with the Crimean Tartars) meaning you would have to make a detour as far as Iran (taking in acount that Iraq might close it's airspace for American help with ISIS). In short it's not inpossible that goods will have to come in from Vladivostok and have to travel the rest by train (even then theirs relativly minor problems with Japan who might annoy and cause further delays)

Actually, it's macroeconomics 101. What is bad for Russia is Putin.

What is bad for the world is Obama and those supporting the actions against Russia.

Putin is the best president and best strategist to live on this planet. While your Obama ****ts in toilet of his Medishitcare with his low approval rating.

what good does it do your strategy if you piss of your mayor trade partners? What does it say abouth your political foreign relations if Russia can't be friends with Ukraine. This the're not gonna get us song is a losers song. (This doesn't mean anyone els is winning tough)

Putin is such a great guy, you can't criticize him in Russia without going to prison.

"In the year since Vladimir Putin's return to the presidency in May 2012, the Russian government has unleashed a crackdown on civil society unprecedented in the country's post-Soviet history," Human Rights Watch said in its report.

"The authorities have introduced a series of restrictive laws, harassed, intimidated, and in several cases imprisoned political activists, interfered in the work of nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) and sought to cast government critics as clandestine enemies, thereby threatening the viability of Russia's civil society."

Given

1) Russia is stalling "aid" delivery for no apparent reason
2) Russia is not cooperating with the agency (i.e. the International Red Cross)it claims is delivering and working with to deliver said "aid", not allowing them access, not even telling them where the aid is or where it is going.
3) The aid convoy has many military vehicles in it and is staffed by military personnel and staying at military bases
4) Refuses to allow inspection of the convoy
5) Appears to want to only cross the Ukrainian border at cross points controled by Russia.
6) Russia's history of using "aid" as a ruse for military invasion
7) Russia's very clear history lies and heavy reliance on deception

I think we can safely conclude this "aid" convoy really isn't an "aid" convoy but a military ruse and domestic propaganda.

Ukraine has cut off Russian resupply routes to Luhansk and is delivering Ukrainian relief to Donestk and Lohansk. Leadership of Putin's irregulars seems to change daily. If Putin wants to save his irregular troops inside Ukraine he needs to act fast as Ukraine believes Luhansk will fall within 10 days.
It's difficult to understand Putin. One second he says one thing and in the next sentence, he contradicts his previous sentence. And his actions are not consistent with his statements.
