Fat People's View on Skinny

Bells: Then again, I always find it difficult to find 'ugliness' in people.

This has nothing to do with what is 'in' people. This isn't about whether they are nice or have a sunny disposition and plant lavender in spring. This is about the physical feature and I am sure you haven't gone through your life and not looked at someone and thought 'that person is really quite ugly'. Or seen something and thought 'wow that is really an ugly object'.

One of my lecturers at university. I found him ugly to be honest, but half the girls thought he was the epitome of male beauty and the others thought he was cute.

I guess I'm just different and outside the norm.:)

So I'm lying when I say I don't consider those women to be beautiful?

I don't know Oli, I have no window into your soul all I know is that when I asked you if you thought they were ugly you said no. All you said is that you prefer something else.

Who? All you are admitting is that 99% of the other students found him attractive. The existence of an exception only serves to uphold generalizations and the norm.

There's a world of difference between "beautiful" and "plain" to my mind.
Not ugly - just bland, plain, nothing remarkable.
But most decidedly not beautiful.

Well Oli as I said, the existence of an exception only serves to uphold generalizations and the norm. This all began because anti-flag decided that those women can be considered ugly which I disagree with. Now you tell me that you find her bland and plain as opposed to the brunette, but so what? It still doesn't make her any less beautiful which is what most have decided that she is. We know this because she has made so much money representing beauty, we know this because people don't give millions of dollars to what is bland and unremarkable, same holds true for Adjani where there is concensus objective of what you think that deems her beautiful which she is. Your preference for her doesn't make Elle any less beautiful! I don't see what you cannot accept about that. There is nothing plain or bland about Elle's body or general features, I don't see dozens of women running around who look like her, and I am sure she would hold anyones attention on any beach anywhere in the world looking like this:

HEIGHT: 6'
MEASUREMENTS: 36-24-35
WEIGHT: 128 lbs (58 kg)

Only great gene pool luck can give you those perfect measurements.

So I should accept what everyone else says even though I cannot see what they're talking about?
The next time I see what I think is an attractive woman I should get a consensus opinion because my judgement is flawed?
And then refuse her because the general opinion is that she's not attractive enough to others, or conversely go out with a woman I consider unattractive because everyone thinks she's beautiful?
I accept that others may (and do) consider her beautiful - but for the life of me I can't understand why.

Oh no. The one's who viewed him as cute thought he looked like roadkill. But they saw him as cute because of his ugliness.. "he's too ugly to not be cute". The one's who thought he was god's gift to women were looking more at something else I suspect.

Oli you are missing my point. BEAUTY ISN'T ABOUT PERSONAL PREFERENCE. You have your preferences, fine. Beauty still has an objective standard that most in the world have no problem agreeing with. I can admit that Johhny Depp is a beautiful man even if I prefer someone else. This post shows you are reacting to something that isn't being said. Its irrelevant to everyone outside of yourself what you think is attractive or not.

Bells unless you have a pictue to outline what you are talking about what you posted doesn't make any sense. They viewed him as cute because he looked like roadkill? I am sure you can see why this statement doesn't make sense.

Exactly. Opinion does not override that he's a textbook physically ideal human being. Did I get it?!

In which case I truly have no idea what beauty is, so I am reduced to the stage of getting other peoples' opinion on who I should consider beautiful.
Does anyone publish a guide?

Actually you do have an idea of what beauty is. The pictures you posted showed no less beautiful women than what was posted in the links. Clooney is considered gourgeous and its not because he is ugly even if you don't personally find him attractive. what don't you understand about that?

Yeah you got it. Just because I prefer Russel Crowe to Brad Pitt doesn't make Brad Pitt an unattractive man. I don't understand why eveyone is taking it personally

Because apparently some women I consider to be plain actually aren't, they're beautiful.
But I can't see it.
So okay, change that to "I have a limited idea of beauty".

I think you are deliberatly being devils advocate and you know exactly what I mean. If you cannot tell from the post above what I am saying adding another won't change that. Especailly if you want to misconstrue the point

I would if I could. But doing so would reveal too many personal details about me.

Another example is Arafat. I thought he was ugly and unattractive. But to some people, he is beautiful and handsome.

I don't understand why eveyone is taking it personally
I don't see anyone as taking it personally.:bugeye:

It would depend on which textbook you are looking at.

I'm not playing devil's advocate and I'm not deliberately misconstruing.
Consensus opinion declares Elle McPherson (and those others) to be beautiful.
I simply cannot see it at all.
How about this one:

Nell Mcandrew, supposedly a beauty.
Not [quite] ugly but decidedly unattractive.

Oli is taking it personally because he keeps posting and referring to whom he deems attractive and who isn't when they all are. Arafat has the lure of being a rebel and of having attained a certain degree of power and notoriety but I have yet to hear ANYONE ever refer to him as being beautiful.

No, if Oli actually is taking it personally it's because he's seriously considering obtaining psychiatric help due to his increasingly obvious mental incapacity.
