eternal life...

The economist reviewed a book about anti-ageing research: Methuselah' Mixture. It could be worth having a read through. I think it'd be good to treat aging are a medical sub-discipline.

if there was a way to achieve eternal biological life, in the bodies that we have now, and in the world where we live now, would you choose it, or would you rather die?

I would prefer to die.

i'm asking this question because this is what i think the mark of the beast will be; a way to achieve eternal biological life, in the bodies we have now...flaws and all. i think the flaws will be addressed with politics and religion and technology, and the fatal flaw, the question, "who would want to live forever like this?', isn't addressed.

They may find a way to stop the body clock. But eternal life in an imperfect existence is impossible. There will always be accidents, human error, acts of murder, war and episodes of starvation. So while it may become technically feasible to never grow old, sooner or later something is going to get you, you may last 1000 years or even 10,000 years but you would never have eternal life in this imperfect universe.

As for the mark of the beast, i believe it will be a technological device implanted into the head of hand that will be absolutely necessary to have if one wants to buy or sell anything within the empire of the Anti-christ. Anyone who does not receive it be hunted down and beheaded.

i think it will be a more meaningful dependence than that. i think you'll not only have to depend on them for your livelihood, but also your life. their technology to heal the body will be more advanced (in a twisted kind of way), but you suffer while you live...indefinitely, or even forever. i would suggest this scenario would cause more extensive and intense suffering than we've ever experienced with the inevitable option of death, and is why god will destroy the earth this time by fire.

doesn't that sound like hell adstar?

if there were ppl who were immortal..(or close enough) there would be more attention on long term problems..ie global warming, polution, even colonization of space as these would be a more personal problem not to be defered to other generations..

i could generalize and say that god told me. it's actually why i even registered on sciforums a long time ago. to "spread the news". you can imagine how i was received. haha.

Yeah, to tell us all how to live with insanity. Thanks for that. We really appreciate it.

in regards to quality of life...do you have faith in politics, religion, and technology to provide the quality of life you'd want to live forever in?

Religion only spreads hatred, suffering and death, hence diminishes all quality of life.

so that would be a "no" for religion then? what about politics and technology?

you're welcome. it's coming your way...look to the skies...there are signs in the heavens.

I, like many tens of thousand of others, spend some nights looking at the skies through telescopes, Lori. We don't see those signs because we aren't insane and we don't tell others how to live their lives based on psychotic religions.

Really good question and one that we may deal with to some degree.

Maybe not eternal but much longer living.

I would want to live, but I may change my mind in the future.

If such a way to achieve eternal biological life was discovered by science, then evolution would no longer be possible. The flaws would therefore not be addressed.

With noone dying population would spiral out of control leading to destruction of all... therefore this is an impossibility.

Well life on this world falls far short of what Eternity with God will be and i cannot wait for the end of the world as it is now to end. But life with its trials and tribulations is nothing compared to the torments in the lake of fire.

From Revelation i cannot see how the medical advance you are thinking of can fit into it. It says:

Revelation 6
9 In those days men will seek death and will not find it; they will desire to die, and death will flee from them.

It says even though they will seek to die they will not be able to end their lives. If medical science could stop the ageing process it still could not stop you from grabbing a grenade and pulling it's pin and holding the grenade to your face. I don't think such an advance could keep you alive when the top half of your body is missing.

Anyone can commit suicide when they get sick of living. Does not matter if life is temporary or extended.
