If Trump was allowed to get away with his proven politically motivated extortion of another sovereign nation, what do you think he would try to get away with next?
Congress had no option but to impeach. Trump broke the law big time and if they did nothing would do so again and again and again...
It is not just about policy but more about principle.
You have a POTUS that acts criminally, that can not be charged with a crime that has to be stopped from further criminal acts.
Impeachment was the only alternative.
Trump may not deem his oath of office worthy of his attention but other elected office bearers do.

The reasons I see why this political bun fight is relevant is that:

• The current state of the USA falls on the bloke in the top job regardless of excuses.
• The buck stops at the top... even you know this.
• If the Republican dominated Senate had acted according to their oath of office Trump would have been removed from office before this dreadful situation of COVID occurred.
• The CDC would not have lost it's Head.
• The response to the threat would have been far more effective.
• The USA would have taken a global lead as it is capable of doing, instead of being the victim of incompetent leadership.
• The death toll in the USA would have been greatly reduced and so too would the economic damage.

and people digesting/injecting disinfectant would only have them selves to blame.
No one in their right mind could possibly expect a sophisticated and complex nation like the USA can be led successfully by a first class buffoon.

Now we have a China that is emboldened, flexing it's muscle in the South Pacific and elsewhere holding Australia hostage to our need to export to China and there is not a lot we can do about it.
We too have a problem with dealing with bad faith actors..(making a pact with the devil never works out) and if it were me I would cut my losses and refuse Chinese imports and exports, blockade our borders until they cleaned up their act regarding viral outbreaks and human rights. (I don't want their money as it costs too much)

Mainly because the USA is rendered impotent by the incompetent, ad hoc, confusing and vindictive foreign policy that Trump has been promoting.

It's a good thing our government decided to lead on it's own through this pandemic, other wise we would have been in just as bad a shape as the USA or Europe.

An independent inquiry MUST be held into what happened in China, as too many people have lost their lives and livelihoods to ignore because of what appears to be Chinese Authorities paranoia.
The Chinese Government has pushed back by threatening trade if we persist.
This is unacceptable to me.
I am sure we can survive with out China trading...

At this stage just about anyone would have been a better leader than Trump.

All I can suggest is ask an auto electrician.

It's actually on topic sort of...I'm driving so little and only short trips that my battery isn't getting charged (apparently) so I'm buying a battery charger (the battery is almost new).

There are dozens of them in Congress, even with the gerrymandering.
Except for 2/3 - 3/4 of the electorate.
Except for the many Dems - especially the leftwing ones - who have little access to "the media" and none at all to media they can rely on to present them fairly. The Dems have no dedicated TV networks, the leftwing ones have no enforced major presence on any major media - the dominance of Republican framing of issues in American media (all major US media are owned by capitalist corporations) has been the central fact of American politics since the takeover of that Party by an American fascist movement (fascists do propaganda spectacularly well - that's partly because they have no principles or policies per se beyond cutting taxes on rich people and deregulating their corporate interests).

When people rely on the media you appear to be relying on they do end up believing - and posting - Republican Party campaign memes - such as "the Democrats" are this or that, impeachment that doesn't work is a waste of time and should never have been tried, etc. - as if they were "obvious fact". They aren't fact at all.

Nonsense. Trump cannot be charged criminally until after removal from office. And no one is "found innocent" in the American system - found "not guilty" is as close as we get, and that's kind of technical but definitely not the same as "innocent".
