Atheism is a belief.

I know how to use a dictionary.

This post was empty of argument.
Why not save yourself typing and simply write: Insult.
Or you could say something of substance and role model for those you consider inferior.

And, you couldn't see beyond that statement? Perhaps, if theists were to apply logic to their own beliefs?

Nonetheless, I'll be sure to point it out to you, as well, at the appropriate time.

Every dictionary in which I have looked up "Atheism" (5 of 'em) states: 'Atheism- The belief there is no God.' Only one had a mention of 'soft atheism' and it was definition 2, or 3.

There are three choices to the question "Does god, in some manner, exist?"

1, Yes = Theism
2, No = Atheism
3, I don't know = Agnostic

Maybe the dictionary was made by theists.. :shrug:

What is someone called that does not believe in god ?

Just answer the question: Does god exist?
It's a yes or no question. To answer: "I don't believe in god" does not answer the question. If I tried that that kind of evasive bullshit in another context you'd flay me alive, and you know it.;)

Enmos What is someone called that does not believe in god ?
Or does this mean: You think god exists, you just don't believe in him/her..:D

OK, my answer would be "no" then.

What context would that be ? :D

No, it means I am certain there are no such things as gods.

Kinda like my view of the word "life" huh? You don't agree with the dictionary.;)

It's not quite the same thing, but I see you point.
But as you see my question above ("What is someone called that does not believe in god ?") I am more than happy to accept that definition.
Just don't call me an atheist then ;)

G'morning Q!

If you have something intelligent to say then by all means say it. Simply stating that in your opinion (and you have... what kind of qualifications?) all theists are 'Void of logic, reason and rationale' (by the way, you REQUIRE a comma after the word reason in your one-line post), is merely a disparagement with no foundation.

I write for a living - logically, reasonably, and rationally, so you're going to have to come up with something more tangible than vague assertions if you wish to make a valid point. (The fact that your grammar is incorrect is pathetic considering you are questioning another's intelligence and/or education.) I may not agree with your point but I'll give it due consideration.

The *belief* that there is no God is called atheism. If atheists do not hold this view (belief) then they cannot, by definition, be atheists. Why atheists should find this fact objectionable defies all reason. That they believe a certain fact, or group of facts, has no negative connotation - well, it does theologically, but that shouldn't bother an atheist. LOL!

Ok, let's assume I accept your definition.
In that case I am not an atheist.. but what do you call me then ?

Does god exist?
Yes = theist
No = atheist
I don't know = agnostic

You work it out.:rolleyes:

Atheism (aka. materialism) is more than just a belief, it's a religion. The holy scriptures of atheism are all the science books, like the Origin of Species. These scriptures tell how atheists should live their life. For example, they say that there is no afterlife, and they say that humans are animals.

The holy scriptures say that atheists shouldn't apply science to their life, but like all religious people, atheists often also don't follow their religion very well. Because you can't believe in something without applying it to your life.

You are nearly there. To count 'theists' it's everyone who ticked 'Yes'. Those who are not theists you discover by adding up the responses to the other options, those who did NOT tick Yes. Agnostics are atheists, ie, they did not respond and say they were theists, so are not theists, or are atheists.

You either believe, or you don't. There are no half measures.

Totally fallacious bullshit. Atheism is simply a lack of belief in your god, nothing more.

Yeah, look up the Lokatya philosophy of the Carvakas, exactly the same, right down to insulting and making derogatory remarks against theists.

The Agnihotra, the three Vedas, the ascetic's three staves, and smearing oneself with ashes —
Brihaspati says, these are but means of livelihood for those who have no manliness nor sense.

In this school there are four elements, earth, water, fire and air;
and from these four elements alone is intelligence produced —
just like the intoxicating power from kinwa &c, mixed together;
since in "I am fat", "I am lean", these attributes abide in the same subject,
and since fatness, &c, reside only in the body, it alone is the soul and no other,
and such phrases as "my body" are only significant metaphorically.

If a beast slain in the Jyothishtoma rite will itself go to heaven,
why then does not the sacrificer forthwith offer his own father?
If the Sraddha produces gratification to beings who are dead,
then why not give food down below to those who are standing on the house-top?

If he who departs from the body goes to another world,
how is it that he come not back again, restless for love of his kindred?
Hence it is only as a means of livelihood that Brahmans have established here
all these ceremonies for the dead, — there is no other fruit anywhere.
The three authors of the Vedas were buffoons, knaves, and demons.
All the well-known formulae of the pandits, jarphari, turphari, etc.
and all the obscene rites for the queen commanded in Aswamedha,
these were invented by buffoons, and so all the various kinds of presents to the priests,
while the eating of flesh was similarly commanded by night-prowling demons.
