Should prostitution be legalised? yes or no!!

That for sure.

The following questions come to minds-

Is working in a brothel an acceptable career choice for women?
In the town with the brothel, would most of the the village women be working there?

I say no to legalisation.

I also think more likely than not that that the owner of the hooker house were male he would not want his own daughter working there...based on that alone i would not legalise it.

why not? women have had sex for money for has long has people can remember why not just make it lageal and get it from the streets?

where i worked (not has a prostitute may i add, i took calls from men who wanted to see the girls) the onwers daughter worked there. all it is is sex. people look to much into sex.

Since there are many women who work in brothels, clearly the answer is "yes," at least for some people. I don't see how you can even argue this...the fact that women clearly do work in brothels pretty much shuts your argument down before it starts.

What the hell does this have to do with anything? Most people probably wouldn't want their children to be janitors, even if they themselves are janitors or someone who hires janitors. Would you suppose that we should outlaw janitors? :bugeye:

But does it get it off the streets???? I've asked you that twice now, but you haven't answered. Just because there's a brothel down the street is no sign that prostitutes won't still work the streets!!

And many men might not want to be seen going into a brothel, but they might well take advantage of an anonymous street prostitute and a nearby hotel room.

all it is is sex. people look to much into sex.

The reason for that is that men can't get sex whenever they want it!! So in that regard, it isn't "just sex". If women fucked men whenever the men wanted sex, then perhaps there'd be no such thing as prostitution in the first place!

No, it don't. Just because there are people who do something, doesn't necessarily make it "acceptable" as a career. People murder other people, but there are damned few people who'd consider that an "acceptable" career, ya' know? His argument is pretty much alive and well.

Baron Max:

And what did it change? What were the conditions and crime situation prior to the change, and what miraculous changes occured due to the legalization of prostitution?

It made things safer for sex workers, in many ways. It gave them a controlled environment to service their clients, rather than having to have sex in cars or in locations where the prostitutes could be beaten or robbed. It also reduced the spread of STIs, since showers are generally compulsory before sex in a brothel, condoms are readily available, etc.

It took a few women off the streets, thus removing ugly cruise areas from certain neighbourhoods.

And it meant that the government could actually regulate the sex industry, rather than the industry being run by thugs and pimps.

It made things safer for sex workers, in many ways.

I would agree with that, ...but ONLY for the sex workers who work in the brothels! Others were still at risk.

It took a few women off the streets, ...

Only a few? Care to elaborate on that?

And it meant that the government could actually regulate the sex industry, ....

Yeah, that's just what we need ...the government controlling our sex lives!

And is this the same government that allows illegal Mexicans to cross our borders illegally, then allows them to work in the country illegally, and is now planning to give them amnesty ...a REWARD... for their illegal acts?

You have great faith in the government, James. Is that always your view of the government, or are you being selective so as to help whichever argument you happen to be dishing out?

Baron Max

Yes.

It will always happen, so why not give both parties the option of a safe environment - a brothel?

I think I'd visit if there was one. Definitely would have this past week.

TMI time, but I've been extremely needy this week :)

, so why not give both parties the option of a safe environment - a brothel?

What about the poor, horny married guys who don't want to be seen going into the brothel? What about the poor, horny politicians? What about the poor, horny celebrities? You'd leave those poor, horny bastards with blue balls and with no recourse to relieve the pain and agony?

Let's pass a new law! Women must fuck any man who asks nicely! :D

We need to change perceptions of society. Everything else has moved on and become more acceptable. Why not paying for sex? We all do it one way or another in our lives. It's usually some kind of barter, so what's wrong with skipping the bullshit, laying down a few notes and benefitting both parties.

Politicians and married men have something to lose, so it's a gamble for them however they go about it. I can't see that changing.

you're right, fuck helping people, if you cant help everyone then its not worth helping anyone at all![/sarcasm]

Only a few? Care to elaborate on that?

in my nearest city ive seen the number of street prostitutes drop by at least 80% after prostitution was legalised.

Yeah, that's just what we need ...the government controlling our sex lives!

the government isnt 'controlling out sex lives'. by allowing government regulation it ensures that sex workers have the same legal rights and protection that any other worker has. we now have mandatory condom use in the sex industry, STI checks for sex workers, a guaranteed clean working environment, and a national sex workers union. it is the government regulating an industry, not controlling our sex lives.

you're right, fuck helping people, if you cant help everyone then its not worth helping anyone at all!

Yep, to do so is blatantly discriminatory and shouldn't be permitted.

I find it so interesting that some of the very people who hate and deride the "government" at every chance they get, are the people who want more government regulations and control by the government. Ain't that odd? :D

Baron Max

I vote no. Prostitution is wrong. It erodes your soul. It defiles your spirit. It's dirty and disgusting. Your body is the temple God gave you to live in. To defile it is to defile Him. Ugh.

there is a difference between government interference, and government protection. i dont want the government watching every move i make 24/7, but that doesnt mean i want to abolish minimum wage, ACC, and numerous other government projects which work to support our rights. i support a government of the people, not a dystopia.

What you want is perfection in all things ...for you!

With the government "inspectors" for the brothels and whores, what's to stop one of the girls from exchanging a few blowjobs and a cut of her take for the inspector to give the girl a clean bill of health? ...then she goes on to give a gazillion customers AIDS, gonorhea, syphlis, herpes,.....?

Oh, wait, no, you wouldn't like that ....because you want perfection in all things in the government ...and you're unwilling to accept that government is just a bunch of people.

Baron Max

i dont ask for perfection, i just expect my government to act with the same level of integrity we trust them with.

Legalise it and tax it. License it and give free healthchecks. Increase penalties for non-licensed prostitutes AND customers. Whether brothels, dial-a-blowjob service, or designated red light areas.

Restricting it to brothels won't work, and many prostitutes won't want to pay the overhead associated with the upkeep. The only way forward is cleaning up the situation we are already in.

Embellishing the gospels now 'Sandy'? AFAIK, the only people who are specifically told not to become prostitutes are the daughters of priests and Israelites.

Do you actually have some biblical support for your position? Even if you did, it's just your dogma, nobody elses, so no reason to enshrine it in law.

I vote no. Prostitution is wrong. It erodes your soul. It defiles your spirit. It's dirty and disgusting. Your body is the temple God gave you to live in. To defile it is to defile Him. Ugh.
How can we little mortals defile God?
Is God really victimized by us?

god obviously loves sex. sex is everywhere. Pollen allergies? well, that's tree and plant sex.

Our bodies are not temples unless sex is a part of the religion.

You have noticed how much religion is used to teach us to hate parts of ourselves?

You either believe that consenting adults should be free to do whatever they want so long as it doesn't harm anyone else, or you don't.

I think anyone who thinks prostitution should remain a crime is a bit of an ass and a hypocrite. Sex is not illegal, money is not illegal but sex for money is illegal? Unless its in front of a camera? Cause then its okay and just porn and its legal. OMG people.

/me sings the Violent Femmes song, "America is the home of the hypocrite"
