Mmmm, maybe I'm off. I've definitely read about ship mounted rail guns, with magnets and everything. They may have just been experimental, though.

Anyway, ships still employ canons, which are cheaper than using missiles I think. Lb for lb of exploding stuff, anyway. They probably use satellites or spy planes to aim with.

Almost all of today's cruisers, destroyers, frigates, corvettes have (usually just one) autocannon between 50-150mm, railguns are still experimental and to knowledge have not ever been mounted to a ship yet, rocket assisted smart and GPS guided rounds have only come on line in the last few years.

Well I tire of people using the old pirate vs warming excuse against anthropogenic climate change, you can't arguing against its logic, you can argue (a losing argument) against the evidence for causation but you can't arguing against correlation, we are beyond that already and have the mechanism and model for causation, so stop talking about the flaws of correlation already!

I saw an article about them once and if I recall it was saying that the rail guns were going to be more useful against fast moving incoming objects as a primary weapon for defense.

I hope these pirates cause as much disruption as possible to trade, oil prices etc. The world needs more people willing to take matters into their own hands, this is the only way to address the imbalance in our World. If you are treated unfairly and taken advantage of, make a fuss about it, let people know there are consequences for their actions.

Assuming your apathy is genuine than sure why not, there are a lot of people that care, they are just not in a position to do anything about it. At present the outcome is that the UN will continue to do what it is doing, which is basically nothing, we can hope the new god/eer I mean president obama while verify if the USA is selling arms and would cut that out, but that is the best we can expect.
