Pirates seize $100m Saudi Super Tanker

Assuming your apathy is genuine than sure why not, there are a lot of people that care, they are just not in a position to do anything about it. At present the outcome is that the UN will continue to do what it is doing, which is basically nothing, we can hope the new god/eer I mean president obama while verify if the USA is selling arms and would cut that out, but that is the best we can expect.
.

Verify? Its part of the war on terrorrz that P.Obama supports most whole heartedly.

You're really naive, eh? Do you think he will abandon the AFRICOM?

As we build U.S. Africa Command, we want to talk to people about what the U.S. military is doing in Africa.

Even though the Africans want nothing to do with it?
America has been forced to host AFRICOM - its military central command centre for Africa - in Germany after rejection by members of the African Union.

lol
Go ahead and try, I guess.

If you are treated unfairly, it's because you're too weak and worthless to be treated fairly.

I’d say better to be treated unfairly and to have your own destiny in your hands than to be pampered, force fed jelly donuts and have no real control over your future – basically live in a bubble.

The multinationals and oligarchs deserve a bloody nose now and again, they’re the guys that got rich off the Americans become fatter and fatter (& dumber and dumber). While you lot are discussing the legality of gay marriages and how many dicks some celebrity whore sucked, people half way around the World are preparing themselves for a financial meltown, they have their trust in real valuables (e.g. gold, precious metals, land, water sources etc.) - they are much better prepared.

I was just going through a photgraphic feature on the Somali pirates at The Guardian. Had to laugh at this, one of the groups is described as "the Central Regional Coast Guard, was formed three years ago, has 350 men in its ranks and about 100 speedboats" Guarding their coast from what, capitalists?:p

I have a question, why can't tankers etc arm themselves, either with mercenaries, or missiles? Is it to do with international laws regarding waterways? Is their no recourse to self-protection?
Surely their radar or sonar can pick up incoming speedboats. Should they have permanent helicopter surveillence, you know, ship-based gunships?

It just seems to me the ships are a soft touch and no-one has the balls to actually go through with seriously discouraging the "Coast Guard" . Apart from the Indian Navy that is, and even they ran into legal problems.

I know the pirating is just one symptom of a country in political and economic turmoil, but letting them sit with 15 ships and 250 sailors captured, awaiting ransom, is nothing more than condoning illegal activety...IMO.

I didn't say he would, I said we can at best hope for it, bitch (if your going to call me things I'll return the favor)

International law forbids merchant ships from being armed, have to look up why.

Yeah, I'm sure he will disband the US Military Command in Africa

/pats head

:D

Of course, they will let the Chinese and Russians and Indians take all that lovely lovely oil instead.

Somalia will continue until they can find a pro-US patsy who will honour Siad Barre's contracts with the big five of American oil. The present "al Qaeda linked terrorists" [lol] certainly don't

African oil? What ever take the oil, we need to go alternative anyways, as the peak drops you can live with the strain of sinking supply and growing demand, enjoy your poverty and revolutions.
