Multiple terror attacks in Mumbai

target? you mean goal. Destabilize a situation, place blame on whom you can by being as heinous as possible. The possibilities are endless, from US funded terrorism to bring India into a war with pakistan over al-qaeda, to the government of india wanting a reason to villify the muslim minority. What happens now is almost unimportant, it is the responce that will be telling.

Oh come on, this is Mumbai, most people will go to work today. Even the blowing up of the Prime Minister did not make a dent here.

Oh, certainly. This is ample excuse for the government to target enemy X and attempt to eliminate him by whatever means necessary.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."

--Goering at the Nuremberg Trials

He was bastard, but he was right.

dunno, will it?

(cow-worshipper is bigotry? what are the sacred cows for, then?)

i was watching hyper's link and either the indian police are a very calm bunch or they are compleatly disorganised. There were pitures of them preparing for the assult, and they were just standing there loading there guns, not even wearing bullet proof vests Actually it looks like they are just checking the sights on the guns and handing them out which is amazing. You would normally expect them to be ready to go the second they arive on scean (after all you wouldnt want to be organising your weapons if the suspects decided they wanted to atack in your direction

draqon to be fair there arnt very many countries which COULD protect against this sort of atack. MAYBE the vatican as an example because its so small but not very many others. Hell they came in by sea in the middle of the night, if they did that to sydney or melbourne you would have the same result

actually that was me who deleted your post. The only reason i didnt delete his was because sam seemed happy to debate him on the size of india's political system

draqon: "someone has obviously not done their job, Indian Security to be precise."

Any open society is intrinsically vulnerable to terrorism.

Asguard: "...either the indian police are a very calm bunch or they are compleatly disorganised."

The IBN camera crews have not been in the middle of the firefights, so there isn't much basis for judging their prowess through these lenses. Mumbaikers seem to be generally handling things with admirable calm, so far as I can surmise, watching the news from afar. Here's hoping this all gets mopped now, without further victims.

hyper i know that, im just comparing it to the STAR group ops i have seen. Basically they even those on the edges on trafic control dont even leave the station without being fully prepared to defend themselves once they arive just in case. Its possable this is different because its just so large but it still doesnt seem very proffessional and i was left wondering if the deaths of so many high ranking officals are the cause

According to this article: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/asia/article5241036.ece?token=null&offset=0&page=1
An attack by al Qada was expected, they hit India because it was a softer target and they had more operatives in the area.
Western intelligence services have been expecting an al-Qaeda spectacular terrorist attack in this crucial period between the end of President George Bush’s administration and the succession of Barack Obama.

Signals intelligence “chatter” in recent weeks indicated that Osama bin Laden’s terrorist organisation might be plotting an attack “to grab the headlines” before Mr Obama takes over in the White House on January 20.

British security and intelligence sources said there had been increasing concern, particularly in the United States, that a “terrorist spectacular” was on the cards.

The multiple attacks on Westerners in Bombay last night showed all the signs of an al-Qaeda strategy — picking on vulnerable Western “soft targets” but not in a country where there would be maximum security. The attacks on Western targets in Bali in 2002 when al-Qaeda-linked terrorists planted bombs in tourist-favoured restaurants and clubs was another example where the group switched its resources to achieve maximum impact.

Counter-terrorist experts last night said that India would have been selected for the latest spectacular “probably because that’s where al-Qaeda has sufficient resources to carry out an attack on this scale. They don’t choose for the sake of it, they look to see where they have the greatest capability and then order an attack,” a counter-terror expert told The Times.

Mad, just because the mob likes to bring in narcotics doesnt mean every narcotic deal is the fault of the mob and just because al Qada atacked the US doesnt mean every criminal atack is the work of al Qada

for christ sake how many times do i need to delete this crap. If you people cant pull your heads out of your collective ass's dont bother posting.

The ABC has CONSITANTLY reported that this was the work of INDIANS, the group has been around under a different name for ages atacking goverment targets but has moved on to bigger and better things *sarcastic* aparently.

NO PAKISTAN INVOLVMENT

It's not my theory, it's the theory of the experts quoted in the article. They've been expecting a big al Qada attack and they think this is it. Perhaps they're wrong and this attack is just a coincidence. Anything's possible. There is even talk of an attack at Penn Station in the US:

Mad, read the post above this. Trust me, i have spent most of the day watching the indian report and following EVERY ABC news report (especially the infomation comming out of DFAT and PM&C) on the issue. They even had an internationally recognised terriousium expert (whos name i have forgotten) on the 7:30 report, not to mention specilists from monash uni and the ANU and they are ALL saying that though this group may have COPIED al Qida they had nothing to do with them OR pakistan. They are a home grown group who have been activly atacking goverment targets for along time. The difference is that they oviously realised there former tactics wernt working and desided to go for something bigger
