Yeah Hemant was one of them, apparently they were caught in indiscriminate fire.
It seems some of the terrorists are holed up at Nariman House, where some Israelis are staying.

It is a smaller world today. Hopefully it's a world learning how to deal rationally and effectively with terrorism, and Indian leadership will continue to respond responsibly: Deal with the attackers, without exploiting it, and without spinning popular sentiment into other agendas.

SAM even with the sadly high death toll amongst the police they have been quite lucky. One of our lecturers by the police was about a specific type of bomb designed to explode twice. The first is a small blast mainly designed to cause injuries and get ambos, police and firies to rush to the scean. Then the second blast goes off killing all the emergency services. Its the reason all the emergency services stager responces to MCI's because if this happens it only takes out the origional responders, not the whole service

Indian authorities really should get talking to the media. Foreign officials are chiming in, but no official briefings (at least on IBN, which is mostly what I've been watching). Hopefully Indian officials are making public statements now.

All the Indian official statements have come in. They rarely come on camera to make them, just pass it on to the press.
You'll get the most current news from the press. They'll be everywhere. The public officials will just make soothing statements.

target? you mean goal. Destabilize a situation, place blame on whom you can by being as heinous as possible. The possibilities are endless, from US funded terrorism to bring India into a war with pakistan over al-qaeda, to the government of india wanting a reason to villify the muslim minority. What happens now is almost unimportant, it is the responce that will be telling.
about the 5 people still being held hostage. I was reading an ABC artical which stated that the NSW goverment still hasnt been able to get in contact with 6 people from there trade deligation including one public servant who were staying at that hotel
