There has been debate of what constitutes an intelligent community or whether sciforums is indeed an 'intelligent community' so that is an old old old accusation, whether few or many rules this debate will continue as it always has. I mean how does Star Treck vs Star Wars or a MJ debate constitute an intelligent community? We could argue that the 'intelligent' could put their intelligence to better uses:shrug: Also we know that Varda is an intelligent poster depending on the discussion so starting a frivolous thread doesn't mean she has somehow fallen off standards simply because the thread was 'inane'. I agree with you, Lucysnow. If a mod uses a word it's very reasonable to assume that the word is acceptable. We can't be expected to be mind readers.

I am not making a claim of innocence I am saying how obscenity bans are issued arbitrarily. If the term she used was worthy of an instant ban then she would not have been warned but banned and there would have been no second thread. James gave instant bans for the use of the word when not directed to anyone specific and yet Plazma says that the word is only ban worthy when directed towards someone. Understand now? The issue I am raising is not about Varda's innocence after all she could care less about being banned and I think we all know that. VI started a thread on 'legalizing' the word and I was showing her that the word is not 'illegal' and that the ban on the word is arbitrary at best. Look at how many times the word has been used in various contexts in this thread alone? There is no difference as far as examples of how it has been used in this thread and the second thread Varda had opened and yet bans were issued there and not here. Context therefore is irrelevant.

It's not the first time she's been banned for the exact same thing, so you can't just go on this one incident. When you commit a crime, are all other related crimes ignored in your sentencing? Do you think they should be?

If a abusive wife is sitting outside the house of a man she abused and was convicted of abusing, just outside the restraining order boundries... but she's there all the time. Do you think the cops would just ignore her? They could convict her of harrassing her victim. If Varda's insulting was actually creative and not just her spitting on the crowd, that would be one thing. But she's not Xev, or Gendy or you... she does it very directly and very uncreatively. It's the spirit of the thing, and this is an internet forum. Try to be less serious about it.

The ban was arbitrary. Like Lucysnow said, on one hand Tiassa says it and that's fine, on the other hand we use it in a neutral way (not aimed at anyone) and we're banned? What the hell are we supposed to read from that? That sometimes a word is okay and sometimes it isn't, completely unrelated to whether you used it in an offensive way??

No again you don't see what I am looking at. VI started this thread I went on to say that its not that the word is not allowed to be used and that the ban was arbitrary. Remember Varda wasn't the only one banned which is why VI started the thread.

Varda was warned but not banned for a word she supposedly uses 'quite often'. Fine. She was then banned for the second thread where she didn't use the word towards anyone in a malicious way and neither did anyone else. If Plazma is right then the other members would not have been banned and Varda would have been banned simply for stressing James which is exactly why she was banned. We weren't warned the ban was instant yet the word was not maliciously directed towards anyone, it was the point of the thread. So again which word can be used in what context is completely arbitrary. If it were not then Varda would not have been able to use the word 'quite often' without warning or instant ban.

Do you really think Bebelina, VI and myself just went on a rampage against a particular member and started using cunt all over the place? No of course not no one directed anything to another poster with hostile intent. Varda was banned for mocking James and we were banned for being trivial with the word cunt as we were all talking about why that word and not some other word and in what context a word calls for a warning. In my experience it's not about the insult, it's about the victim. If they're someone who genuinely deserves an insult, then it's bad because it's mean.
I used to say horrible horrible things to gendanken but it never mattered, then if I say something far less vile to asguard or lucifer's angel it's banworthy because they are weak and pathetic retards.
I actually wouldn't even be surprised if I got banned for that ^ no cunt, no nothing, just a string of boring words people use here every day, but because it's a fitting description of two people who do indeed have unfortunate conditions, it's unacceptable.
The irony is, by finding these humble little remarks so very offensive, the mods confess that they too view the aforementioned members as pathetic retards who warrant special protection.

Since you are a noob to this site (under this pseudonym) then you are likely to have some slack cut. Lou has a habit of barbing James, and this is nothing new. It's not that he just suddenly got banned for saying something inane, it's he got banned for continuing to say something inane.

You'll find out (if you don't already know) that moderators here will likely try to keep certain outbursts to a minimum.
