You have this exactly backward. "Cause always precedes Effect"
You cannot ignore the definition of those two terms, to suit your whim.

cause, noun
1. a person or thing that gives rise to an action, phenomenon, or condition.
effect, noun
1. a change which is a result or consequence of an action or other cause.
Formally stated; Newton's third law is: For every action (cause), there is an equal and opposite reaction (effect)
