so yet again you miss the point. Why? and seek to denigrate with out thinking...Great theory! No proof, but fun. Love to hear where the "hot water" thing came from, given that viruses evolved to live in 98 degree environments.
I heard one that stated that dogs can infect you, so if you want to stay healthy, get rid of your dogs. I understand there are lots of ways to put them down.
It's a good article thanks...https://www.bbc.com/future/article/...drinking-water-keep-you-safe-from-coronavirus
Well the BBC has been saying this is more or less nonsense.
Mind you ,I expect I will try to avoid a dry mouth out of an abundance of caution (although that cannot be prevented at night unless you breathe through your nose at all times in your sleep, which I don't always do (esp if I have a cold or a blocked nose)
It is extremely unlikely that you would be infected whilst sleeping in your bed ( assuming normal hygiene standards and social distancing)Mind you ,I expect I will try to avoid a dry mouth out of an abundance of caution (although that cannot be prevented at night unless you breathe through your nose at all times in your sleep, which I don't always do (esp if I have a cold or a blocked nose)
Oh, I am thinking quite a bit. I am thinking that if people think "hot water will protect me!" they will tend to think they are protected when they are not - and the contagion will grow faster.so yet again you miss the point. Why? and seek to denigrate with out thinking.
But you said "warm to hot water." You made it clear that the temperature was important. Are you now jettisoning that part of the recommendation? It is not the water temperature, it is the trapping of the virus in the mouth by stimulating saliva (between sips) so it can be swallowed and digested.
I will let you mull over your post for a few days before responding...Oh, I am thinking quite a bit. I am thinking that if people think "hot water will protect me!" they will tend to think they are protected when they are not - and the contagion will grow faster.

Because it is bunk. Read the BBC link geordief supplied, and you will see why.so yet again you miss the point. Why? and seek to denigrate with out thinking...

Oh I read the article no problemo but as you say applying a little bit of critical thought is necessary to realise that the author is referring to a claim that the method prevents infection. It doesn't and has not claimed to do so.Because it is bunk. Read the BBC link geordief supplied, and you will see why.
Listen, at a time like this, all sorts of wild rumours fly around. It is most important, both for personal sanity and to control the epidemic, that silly stories are not spread around thoughtlessly.
In this case, your story looks related to the one posted by Xelasnave in post 369 which was clearly fake, too. These stories are always 3rd or 4th hand and are often accompanied by an invitation to "spread the word". In my opinion that is the first sign of a fake. My guess is they are started either by irresponsible idiots for a laugh, to see how far they get, or else by Russian trolls, trying to sow discord and weaken the success of the authorities in controlling the outbreak (I read there is good intelligence that this is happening, though I have not seen specific examples of how they are doing it).
Keep your critical faculties switched on at all times, and rely on information from verifiable and recognised sources only.
I read it and your "summary" clearly suggests it is a worthwhile precaution to follow this rigmarole with sips of hot water.Oh I read the article no problemo but as you say applying a little bit of critical thought is necessary to realise that the author is referring to a claim that the method prevents infection. The article claims that there are many ways infection can occur that surprise surprise can defeat this idea easily... well duh!
Look I am not interested in defending a simple way to minimize potential infection via the mouth. ( I have already generally validated it by 2 coal front nurses here in Australia.) But I am concerned about how posters can manipulate someones post and address issues not claimed and then accuse them of not applying critical thought.
Read my original post #536 and discuss my post critically and not some imaginary post that you and billvon believe exists.
It doesn't matter what you use as long as you generate a moist mouth .. coffee, beer vinegar, milk, pepper.... who cares?I read it and your "summary" clearly suggests it is a worthwhile precaution to follow this rigmarole with sips of hot water.
No it doesn't...The BBC article points out why that is a waste of time.
People who wear an ineffective mask are generally people who shouldn't be out in the first place.Example:
So I make a spit mask using a supermarket cloth shopping bag, a stapler, pair of scissors and some elastic, in about 5 minutes and it works fine. Cost me nothing. But is it going to prevent infection? Nope. What use is it then? It stops me spitting on people ( from 2 meters) when I talk to them and prevents me from touching most of my face.
So what is stopping the vast majority of people who have no facial covering from making this them selves.... Nothing!
Except people who reckon it does nothing and is a waste of time....
It should be mandatory that all persons wear some form of spit mask when in public. Of course they don't want to suggest that because they think most people are total morons and would think they have got the virus covered and lower their social distancing vigilance.
Tie a pillow case around your head and immediately you cut the potential infection transmission rate.
But no, it's a waste of time...(sarc) unless you are KKK lol
or do what many impoverished Asians often do and use your left hand to touch your face and eat with (quarantine hand) and your right hand to do the potentially infectious stuff..or visa versa
but no people are too stupid to do that...(sarc) (I call this the Michael Jackson method. btw. lol)
Wear a burka if that helps...
The point being, there are many ways to minimize transmission potentials if only we stop thinking it's a waste of time...
well that means an awful lot of people who wear manufactured masks on the streets are nutso... yes?People who wear an ineffective mask are generally people who shouldn't be out in the first place.
[comment deleted]It doesn't protect you, it might protect me (from your sneeze). If you are sneezing it would be better if you stayed home. Your own mask might harm you so what is the point in that?
Front line nurses... nurses in acute care wards both psychiatric and general. What are "coal front nurses"?
You got it matie... stems from the old Irish idiomatic use of "ies"... if I am not mistaken, then it could be Scotties or Walesie.... lolOn to an unrelated question...do all Australians add "ies" to many words or is that just a regional thing? I'm talking about "sunnies" for sunglasses, "blowies" for blowflies, "pokies" for slotmachine, etc.
QUOTEIt doesn't matter what you use as long as you generate a moist mouth .. coffee, beer vinegar, milk, pepper.... who cares?
No it doesn't...
Please copy and paste the part that states it is a waste of time..
And do you have any other references to link to that debunks it in the right context?
Ah. Psychiatric.well that means an awful lot of people who wear manufactured masks on the streets are nutso... yes?
I only use it when I go shopping... mainly to minimize infecting the cashiers...who for some damn reason are not protected at all at the moment. Neither are the security staff.. which is utterly amazing when you think on it.

Of course it protects others more than it protects me...but I do get the benefits described in my post..

A way of rebelling against 'Ole Henry and his modern English perhaps. Mainly good mates talkin' at the pub.
Do all North Americans thunk their English use is superior or wat?
She says worse, actually: that it is misleading advice, that should be squashed.so no... she doesn't say it is a waste of time. I was simply providing front line testimony from Wuhan... was that a waste of time?
and yes she is fearful that people are too stupid to know the difference.
