The balance of life and nature on earth without human intervention is more complex/advanced than human technology currently. Without the precision of nature, we can even have food.

It is inaccurate to ever say "man vs nature" because we are, in our very existence, subject to nature. However, the idea is "man vs nature" in that it is man's ingenuity and desire against the harsh reality

Man has will and desire; and man has intelligence. Man, then, will not ever defeat nature but learn to harness and control nature. And then man will be immortal.

I do see your point, but I'm just saying that nature is also quite astounding, and shouldn't be looked down at. :)

Only a select few do these amazing things. It seems most humans are no more inventive than other primates.

As a negative utilitarian and a humanist I would kill human, no question. Human suffering is worth more then whale suffering, thus euthanizing the human so it does not feel pain anymore (or can cause pain others) is the best option. Of course such an option is simply to horrible by those means, but as a transhumanist I believe technology will someday provide the ability for us to remove all the evil and painful parts of humanity from our psych, thus euthanizing pain its self rather than the person.

It depends.
If it's a stranger; I'd pick the whales over the person. If it was a friend, I'd pick the friend.

AHAHAHAHA!!!!
NEGATIVE UTILITARIAN!!!

Priceless.

Your nightmares are very straighforward. At a minimum in a nightmare I'd think the whales would have guns. Or the ability to fly and the encounter would be on land.

Hmmm, flying whales landing on you...yes, I could see that as a bit of a worry:eek::D

man... and I was expecting some heated debates between animal rights activists and umm.. non-animal right activists...

but I guess sci-forums is a peaceful place now.

I consider the question a matter of 9:1 sentient beings, also endangered species vs. planetary plague (I voted "Save the Whales").

Americans have the right to bear arms.
Does that include harpoons?

If some sneaky whale is hanging around your ranch at night, can you 'poon it?

What about a baby tiger and a baby Orangutan versus a human?
