Convoys from Egypt were tried about six months ago. Egypt stopped the convoy and turned it back.

It is Israeli policy to make the Gazans suffer. The USA's government obeys the Israel lobby or also believes in this policy of collective punishment and the Egyptian government obeys the US Government.

If anything is going to be done about Israel individual people will have to do it. The flotilla is the sort of thing that needs to be done. Also boycotts will need to be done. Otherwise the next 40 years will be like the last 40 years.

I disagree, things are on track for Israel implementing the 'final solution' on the Palestinians long before 40 years are up.

look up how much Egypt gets from US taxpayers. I forget dollar amount but they are not far behind Israel and Mubarik would not survive without these funds. US does not want him to go - his replacements are not nearly as likely to do US wishes.

A billion plus dollars a year in money and military equipment from the US government to the Egyptian government to help the Egyptian government defend itself from the Egyptian people is why Egypt does what it is told.

The Egyptian people don't like the blockade. The Egyptian people and their government gain nothing from the blockade other than money and weapons from the USA.

Egypt probably does not want Gazans moving to Egypt but the blockade creates the incentive to build tunnels which lessons Egypt's ability to control immigration.

Some suggest that Egypt does not want radicalized Gazans playing a role in Egyptian politics. The blockade does not help Egypt stop the influence of radicalized Gazans. Egypt's Muslim brotherhood does not need any help from Gaza.

If Israel was losing a war they might turn to Genocide. Prior to that if Israel continues ethnic cleansing at the pace they have been on for the last 40 years they will have to move Palestinians from the West Bank to Gaza. Israel is going to need Gaza as a place to dump people.

While I am no fan of Assad, I'd support him fully if he declared war on Israel.

Edit: Actually, it'd be more accurate to say if he mobilized against Israel; Syria is already considered in a state of warfare with the aggressive Jewish state. Still, the Ba'ath haven't brought much to Syria in their time, and I'd much prefer the SSNP to take power (and seize not only Israel, but Lebanon, Jordan, and Iraq as well)

I used not only the fact that it was the Close In Weapon System, that Israel used to protect its ships from even super-sonic guided cruise missile but also that in 2005 the CIWS was installed on flat bed trucks and used in Iraq to explode incoming mortar shells high in the sky.

IMHO, Israel CHOOSES to allow a few Israelis to be killed each year to justify its use of the high kill ratio policy.
This, along with periodic shut down of food and electric supplies (no functioning sewerage treatment plants or clean water is available when the power is shut off and this promotes disease) partially compensates for the higher birth rates of the Arabs. Also many Palestinians who can, chose to leave Palestine and then Israeli can more easily expand, as it does about every 10 years. It is true the Gazians are not innocent peace loving people and the Israel do have a right to protect them self but their actions against Gaza are way to harsh to be just self defense.

wrong peace loving does not equal pacifist. one might be peace loving but perfectly willing to use force to defends ones self, property, and rights from an aggessor like Israel.
