Haw! A fine actor.

This is the problem with these pretended injuries. It's getting ridiculous. Panel of judges: faked injury? No play for a day. Go nurse your whatever the hell was supposedly injured. No, no: we wouldn't want you to get hurt. I once stopped a 250-pound Samoan dead on the mid-field line. Didn't catch me bitching about that, and these idiots get paid money to play honourably.

(Lot of fighting in the match though; also bad.)

Couldn't have said it better myself.

So here are my predictions:

Portugal over North Korea - 3-0 (N. Korea has a VERY strong defense, but they will tire, and Portugal will be very aggressive to secure second slot)
Chile over Switzerland - 2-0 (As impressive as Switzerland's victory over Spain was, I think it was a fluke)
Spain over Honduras - 3-1 (Spain is going to punish Honduras to make up for their loss to Switzerland)

As for Group Predictions:

A: Mexico - Uruguay (No doubt here)
B: Argentina - N. Korea
C: USA - England (Seriously, Eff those Slovenian guys)
D: Germany - Serbia
E: Netherlands - (Undecided between Japan and Denmark... leaning towards Denmark)
F: Paraguay - Italy
G: Brazil - Portugal
H: Spain - Chile
=================================================
*EDIT*
BTW what's going on with the French team? I heard that they refused to practice today... I know it's probably inappropriate, but are they surrendering?

They should eliminate the tie scores and those fake injuries where they blame someone else by running into them is not exactly fair either.

OMG... POOR KOREA DPR.... lose by 7:0, last 6 goals happened in the second half :eek: I didn't watch it coz I hvae to work in the office :bawl:

Portugal thrash N Korea 7-0

CAPE TOWN: Portugal revived their World Cup campaign with a dominating 7-0 win over North Korea in Group G on Monday, eliminating the Asian team from the competition.

Simao Sabrosa, Hugo Almeida and Tiago scored over an eight-minute span in the second half, after Raul Meireles' 29th-minute goal gave Portugal the lead. Substitute Liedson added another in the 81st, Cristiano Ronaldo put in the sixth in the 87th and Tiago scored his second of the match in the 89th.

The win moves Portugal into second place in Group G with four points, two behind Brazil. The Ivory Coast has one point, and North Korea is out of the tournament after two straight losses.

A Raul Meireles strike gave Portugal a 1-0 lead at half-time.

The Porto midfielder pounced in the 29th minute after latching onto a beautifully weighted pass from Tiago into the box and drilling the ball under goalkeeper Ri Myong-Guk.

With Brazil already qualified from the group, Portugal need the victory here to boost their bid to reach the knockout round and they started brightly on a slippery pitch after persistent rain.

Cristiano Ronaldo, searching for his first international goal in two years, signalled his intentions by unleashing a long-range left-foot strike on two minutes that goalkeeper Ri did well to collect.

Ricardo Carvalho also had an early chance as Portugal set about their task with vigour and the Chelsea defender then rattled the post on seven minutes with a header after Ri completely misjudged a corner kick.

The opportunities were coming thick and fast as Portugal used wingers Simao on the right and Ronaldo on the left effectively

North Korea finally got a shot at goal on 10 minutes with defender Cha Jong-Hyok whipping a 30 yard pile driver just past the upright.

As the rain returned, the Koreans were starting to look handy and far more aggressive than when they lost 2-1 to Brazil, surging forward on the counter-attack to threaten the Portugal goal.

The Cholima were certainly not scared to have a go and could have taken a shock lead when captain Hong Yong-Jo's shot was parried by Eduardo, only for Mun In-Guk to head the rebound over the bar.

After a decent start, Portugal were struggling to breach a tight Korean defence before the heavily-tattooed Meireles got the crucial breakthrough.

Tons of goals and tons of diving today. I hope FIFA severely punish the players that fake injury, it is in danger of ruining the sport.

Hii,,,, due to an increase in my work load (deadlines... deadlines....), I think I won't be able to continue managing the worldcup prediction games... I am soooo sorry!! Might as well won't have time to watch football for next some days.. T_T

If you guys will continue, pls continue without me. I'm sorry again. Have fun with the rest of the match!! =D

F: Paraguay - Italy

Italy are a bunch of Hollywoods (I would even go as far as calling them cheaters). Don't write off the Allwhites just yet, in spite of poor sportsmanship on the part of the italians, they still managed a 1 all draw.

At this point, whether Italy or NZ gets through potentialy comes down to a coin toss

poor sportsmanship ?? as a german, i don´t like it much to defend the italians .... but the nz-way to play football is even worse than italian style. they used the whole time their elbows against the heads of the italians, and the goal they´ve made was clearly no goal.
and about nz´s chances to continue ... i´d say italy winning against slovakia is more likely than nz winning against paraguay :D

Laughing as you take a dive to generate a yellowcard or penalty? Yeah, generally I would call that poor sportsmanship.

As to the other? :Shrug: Soccer is not a non contact sport, and the Italians weren't much better in that regard anyway - don't forget that one of the nz players almost got yellow carded for not going off the field in a stretcher, and that's without considering the blatant fouls the ref ignored.

And IIRC if both games are drawed, then it comes down to a coin toss, because NZ and Italy are equal in every other way in this pool so far.

of course boys nz are way too honest and never dive :rolleyes:
and yes, football is no non-contact-sport. but as the name of the game suggests - hands and arms shouldn´t be involved at all. 3 yellow cards for for nz, 0 for italy, but blame it on the referee. i´d say fallon even deserved a red card for his repeatedly used elbow.

And IIRC if both games are drawed....

as i´ve said - that´s a rather big "IF"

The scores of the last games will be important.
From the fifa website:

a) greatest number of points obtained in all group matches;
b) goal difference in all group matches;
c) greatest number of goals scored in all group matches.

If two or more teams are equal on the basis of the above three criteria,
their rankings will be determined as follows:

d) greatest number of points obtained in the group matches between the
teams concerned;
e) goal difference resulting from the group matches between the teams
concerned;
f) greater number of goals scored in all group matches between the teams
concerned;
g) drawing of lots by the FIFA Organising Committee.

Not what I stated, certainly not implied by anything I said. I was commenting on a specific game, but then again, it's the Italians with the reputation for ingame theatrics, not New Zealand. :shrug:

I don't Ostensibly disagree with this, but ultimately human beings are designed to use their arms to balance.

You're mischaracterizing my statements, and the yellow cards can't really be taken in a vacuum.

diving, ja? then mabye somebody should have told smith that shirts are just for decorative purpose, not to grab them. or did he think game is already over and wanted to change with de rossi ??? :D
Yeah, Diving.
But don't take my word for it, as the comments on that video suggest, check out De Rossi's performance against Paraguay.

the only thing one can really complain about is their defensive ( other call it destructive ) style. new zealand has hardly any reputation at all, but i´m pretty sure - should the all-whites appear more often on the world football scene, then they´ll be known for their rugby style.

still the message is - they shouldn´t try to find their balance in the face of their opponents.
before the game started, i wanted new zealand to win. italy beeing our archrival, that was an easy decision. but that changed pretty fast during the game.

Yeah, Diving.

which performance? italys goal in that game was because of a mistake, made by the goalkeeper. other than that, i don´t know what you are talking about.

Yeah, I really hope NZ goes through, but I'm hedging my bets with Italy because they're such actresses.

It was Nelsen's yellow card, actually, that I was referring to with the stretcher incident - booked after having gone down with cramp? (87m)

Incidentally, you know that Smith was penalized for pushing right? The fact that he had a hand full of shirt before de rossi dove had nothing to do with the penalty.

And I suppose this is ham acting?
wc13.jpg

(Yes, it's a NZ source).

And yet the ref, acting fairly, issued no yellow cards against Italy? :Shrugs:
(72nd minute, NZ appeals to the ref who dismisses it).

And that's without getting into whether or not Batres should even have been reffing the game in the first place (consider his recent personal tragedy, for example).

This statement leads me to ask: Have you ever actually played soccer? It's not always possible to know exactly where the person marking you is, in fact, when you're marking someone it works in your favour to make it difficult for your mark to track where you are, because that way you have a better chance of catching them by surprise, and getting the ball from them.

Arms flail, and people run into things, and New Zealanders aren't the only ones calling the yellow cards in that match soft penalties.
