Why am I not banned?

Have you tried heavy handedness. Yeah way! I mean fear tactics
Oh right. Because it's so easy to scare people over the internet, isn't it?

Your usage of slide of hand insult perception is a great tool and I am surprised you haven't had god results
You mean sleight of hand?

You catch more fly's with honey . It is a little sticky to handle
No you don't:

most vinegar sold as white vinegar is distilled from malt vinegar due to its low cost, but you get the point) and as such it smells like nice, perfectly seasoned vittles to a fly.

Why should I be polite to idiots? They're offensive.

Don't worry. Keep posting in the style and pace you have been over the past few days and you'll get there.

I was an advocate some time ago of having the ability to ban (temp or perma) a member from specific subfora.
That way, if for example, someone who is clearly ignorant of Physics but nonetheless insists on posting inanity therein, they could be restricted from posting in Physics, but still free to post all their whacko theories in say, Pseudoscience.

It's sad, but a number of members here are shockingly ignorant of the very subject that they purport to be familiar with, if not scholars thereof....

I think that is a good idea, banning certain people from Subforums, If I were to post bunk in the physics forum i would expect to be banned from it.

peace.

Mhm this is why I say your not a nice person, You are purposely rude to people who you think are not as clever as you and who you think are "idiots"
Did I say "purposely rude"?
And no, it's not to "people who I think are not as clever as me", but people who have demonstrated that they don't think.

So you are not "purposely rude" to people, you are saying being rude comes naturalto you and requires no direct intention?

that wouldn't actualy surprise me

So you are not "purposely rude" to people, you are saying being rude comes naturalto you and requires no direct intention?
Just for reference I said that I see no point in being polite to idiots. This is not the same as being "purposely rude". I fail to see that a false politeness, and use of nice words, towards an idiot is a requirement. This was a reply to MKG's homily about trapping flies with honey. Got it?

But, since you raised the question, yes as it happens. Idiots tend to bring out my sarcastic disdainful side. A side I have honed over many years of encountering (and working with) idiots.
To quote Skinwalker
There are those whom it should be one's duty to insult.

This is especially true in the case of idiots who engage mouth (or fingers to keyboard) before (or instead of) thinking.

Hmm, actually I see it more as asking questions the idiots should have thought of themselves.
I do it to highlight their idiocy in the hopes of shocking some sense into them.

There's a word for that. It's "trolling."

The very premise of dividing the world into idiots and not (with you on the right side, of course) is guaranteed to result in trolling, no matter what you do or don't tell yourself about your intentions or how you characterize the effects.

So the amusement that comes about from such an exercise is merely a bonus?

I disagree. Trolling is the attempt to provoke a response from somebody, hopefully making a fool out of them. It is hardly ever entirely relevent to the topic as a whole. Dyw's are usually relatively relevant.

Yup.
Which isn't to say that I don't derive a fair amount of amusement from it. ;)

Asking pertinent questions is trolling?
How does that work?

The very premise of dividing the world into idiots and not (with you on the right side, of course) is guaranteed to result in trolling, no matter what you do or don't tell yourself about your intentions or how you characterize the effects.
Ah of course.
Because asking obvious and pertinent questions, ones that somehow managed to escape the original poster, is, in and of itself, divisive.

I am usually polite to people...because to be impolite is going to make them mad.
Making someone mad is usually going to put them into defensive mode, not make them think.
Since I generally like people to...maybe not see things in absolutes, perhaps? Or maybe reconsider, or look into something...
But being in any way disrespectful of anybody is almost a 100% guaranteed shutdown of communication...

But sometimes I do feel like:

???

So, you're saying that, on a (supposed) science forum, there can be no such thing as correct and incorrect????

???

Idiot's a perjorative term. I report people who call me such, then put them on ignore and probably leave them there permanently.

Insults, they shut down communication.

But you can respectfully disagree with me all damn day, and tell me why...and I may change my mind.

Idiot's a perjorative term.
Agreed.

But when you have explained to someone why, and how, they are wrong... With links, quotes, science and they still persist in, for example claiming the Sun is 100% efficient, what do you do?
Leave them in ignorance? And likely to promote that ignorance in future posts?

@ Fedr
One of my favourites.
Too close to true...

One of my personal favorites is the internet secretary 5 part series.
http://www.xkcd.com/494/

Heck, all of the hat guy ones are good.

Although the pleasure I take from making idiots seem that much more idiotic got kinda dull after a while, especially when I end up putting a lot of thought and effort into an intelligent post that goes so fast over their head they can't even begin to grasp it.

Agreed.

Its even more irritating when you literally just proved them wrong, then they quote someone else and try to boost their argument with the very piece of evidence you painstakingly disproved.

In that particular thread what I found amazing was that the very first link he provided as "evidence" for his claim actually showed he was wrong. And then he claimed that he'd seen that bit but decided it "didn't count".
