I'am not sure...but I've been struggling with this ever since that I discovered, for some reason that I can sympatize with Cho. Before, I would have agreed, had he lived then the death penalty would be appropriate. Now I'm not so sure..
He was troubled...now I see someone who really needed our help.

To all the people that voted irrational: That is an irrational decision. Think of how subjective it is to claim irrationality, when you did not know his circumstances or thoughts.
The subjectivity of the matter makes it impossible to claim it as irrational. As that would be an irrational act in itself. Especially since this is not a subject with which evidence holds much weight, as it'd remain subjective to the individual anyway.
As a result, I choose rational. Simply because it's illogical to choose anything else.

I strongly disagree, sorry. "Irrational" means faulty reasoning processes and responding to situations in a highly abnormal manner.
For example, if a food server brought you tea to drink instead of the water you had ordered, jumping up and screaming and slapping the server would be irrational and inappropriate. It would also bring on a whole series of repercussions that would then have to be dealt with. Asking to have it exchanged would be a rational action and the problem is resolved.
Choosing not to speak when spoken to is irrational behavior. Nothing is accomplished - any problem or conflict that exists is not dealt with and STILL remains.
This individual was so far gone that it was impossible to reach him - because he did NOT want to be reached. He did NOT want his issues resolved. And that's not rational behavior, either. Rather, he wanted to keep it all sealed up inside him and his primary purpose for living was to only increase that hatred and distance himself even more from those around him. He fed on it. Hardly rational.

Rationality is a purely subjective thing. As humans are subjective beings, they cannot think 100% objectively (as their prior ideas make it subjective).
Therefore, it is irrational to claim YOUR rationality is more rational then his. As you can't even question it, since he's dead.
Thus, it's irrational to call his reasoning irrational. Since you don't even know what his reasoning was, for one.
People that express violent tendancies tend to leave hints. These hints mean that he wanted his issues resolved. Once again, as I said in a past thread, Family members tend to be the least observing.
To you it is not, as my explanation shows. Furthermore, you are assuming his actions, based on little to no evidence. I rebuke it on the clause that they're baseless assumptions.
Similarly, I will try not to make statements based on similar baseless assumptions, if you spot them do point them out.
Assumption, assumption, more assumptions. I know of no psychology case where this happens without provocation. And in those cases, parts of them do not want it.
