The Trump Presidency

The process is the only part of the American political system that's working right now.
I demand medals for every one of those officials and volunteers who do the counting.

I didn’t vote for Trump and I’m allowed to post a question. Your need to assign a nefarious motive to my asking a question is odd.

I’ve been discussing this with friends and they shared much of what you have here and I’ve also found information countering what I initially heard. I’ll watch Fox News at times - as well as other networks. I think it’s good to listen to everyone’s point of view, not just those who agree with mine.
Are you sure you aren't one of the anti-socials? Ya'know there are a lot of them around, gaslighting everyone.

To the one you say you didn't vote for Trump but there is a certain fondness for him implied in your comments. To the other, 'twist you and me, you rarely raise questions about the right.

Twas a time, long ago, when I pondered such imponderables, neigh incongruous facts, and as Kafka illustrates in "The Trial" such imponderables are routinely around us lest we forget and yet are they really? I don't know...yes I do and so, you too.

Lol I see what you did there. ;)

Why are observers being banned or kept far away from those counting the mail in ballots in some parts of PA and Detroit?
They aren't banned.

All observers are required to stay back a certain distance. Trump's campaign lied outright by claiming they were banned.

They were always in there. They just demanded to be closer to the table where people were counting. They made it seem as though they were barred. Trump's own legal team had to admit in court that observers were in there the entire time:

A Trump campaign lawyer admitted before a federal judge on Thursday that observers for the campaign were allowed to watch ballot canvassing in Philadelphia, after they claimed in court and the President's supporters alleged they were being deprived unfairly.

But the federal judge was having none of it, instead asking Philadelphia city officials to confirm Democrats and Republicans were being treated fairly to watch the ballot-counting and that they were allowed to watch the ballot counting in the city from six feet away.

When the judge pressed the Trump campaign lawyer if there were observers in the room from the campaign, the lawyer, Jerome Marcus, said, "There's a non-zero number of people in the room."

The judge, Paul Diamond of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, a George W. Bush appointee, also pointed out he believed the President's case appeared to have no reason to be in federal court, and even cracked a joke that the lawyer "shouldn't quit his day job" when the campaign handed the judge a hand-drawn map of the ballot counting room.

Even a Fox News reporter pointed out how Trump's claim that they were banned was a complete fabrication as they were always in the room.
Adding to this, there does seem to be a lack of transparency - poll watchers from both parties should be allowed to oversee the counting of ballots. (And that’s not happening, apparently) That makes me question the integrity of our system. Counting mail in ballots isn’t unfair or unethical, but pausing vote counting ON Election night, and finding piles of ballots days after Election Day seems odd.

Trump or Biden asking for a recount of mail in ballots is well within their rights, so maybe that needs to happen with observers from both parties.
Huh?

They are required to stay a distance back from the tables as a) COVID19, b) standing over people counting the votes would be classified as intimidation.

Pennsylvania has a live stream of the counting room .. How can any claim of lack of transparency even apply there?

I am now going to address this bit of complete and utter misinformation:

"Counting mail in ballots isn’t unfair or unethical, but pausing vote counting ON Election night, and finding piles of ballots days after Election Day seems odd."

When you receive a letter or parcel in the mail, do you believe you received it because the USPS found it?

When you send mail, it is postmarked, sorted and then delivered. When a place is getting a large amount of mail delivered, it will be delivered in batches - or more to the point, in crates and boxes - because the sorting of it puts them directly into these boxes to be delivered to the counting places around the country.

The majority of states have laws in place that dictate how long past the election mail in ballots can be received and counted if they are postmarked before or on the 3rd of November.

Firstly, they aren't delivering the ballots one at a time, but in big boxes once they are filled, usually several times throughout the day. Those ballots are then matched (signature, etc) and then tallied, they determine by the set of rules if the votes are legitimate or not, are they marked correctly and when they go through all of the checks and queries, then those votes are registered.

Some states require mail in ballots that arrive before or on the election day, to be checked, tallied and counted and votes distributed as they arrive, other states have laws in place that dictate postal votes are counted after every ballot received on election day itself are counted. During this time, mailed in ballots will keep being delivered up to the cut off date as designated by the laws and regulation of each state.

To suggest or repeat a right wing lie that piles of ballots are being found after election day is not odd. It's wrong and a complete lie designed to dismiss legal votes and disenfranchise millions of people.. Especially in an election where Trump kept encouraging people to not vote by mail so he could then proceed to delegitimise a legal means of voting because he knew Democrats were voting by mail and pre-voting in bigger numbers.. The irony is that if Trump were to be taken at his word, then his own daughter's vote could end up being discounted, because she voted by mail a few days before the election and her vote could be one of those that arrives after Nov 3rd..

It’s interesting you suggest that because there have been clips showing some of the monitors kind of lurking about and I can see where it would feel unsettling by those handling the ballots. If they stood any closer, they’d be breathing on them! Lol
That said, if Biden or Trump were to ask for a recount in certain states, it’s within their rights to do so. But, Trump seems to be taking that to an entirely different level.

It’s been an eye opening look at the election process, for sure.
Asking for a recount is quite a different matter. That is perfectly reasonable, if the results are sufficiently close that minor errors could make the difference.

What would not be reasonable would be demanding a recount when there is no realistic chance that it will alter the result, as a pretext for stringing out the process to give time to whip up conspiracy theories, discredit the electoral process and encourage street violence. Now who would do that, I wonder?

Law enforcements, journalists, academics, et al have rightly used the phrase "domestic terrorism" in describing actions far less insidious than these, I've been wondering for a long while when people will finally come around and acknowledge the behaviors of Trump and Trumpians as such. I mean, I suppose descriptions such as "childish tantrums" and the like are accurate, but they come across sounding far more innocent than what we are actually witnessing.

Yes, it comes down to whether you embrace a conspiracy or cockup view of all this, I suppose. On the one hand it may be a carefully constructed plan to subvert the election, worthy of a Blofeld, or it could just the final spasms of a dying Trump campaign, as the last loyal people try to enact the crazy orders of a madman stuck in denial, before the lights finally go out: A Hitler in his bunker sort of thing.

Despite all the Putin hacking Biden's still in the lead, one can't possibly ask for more definitive proof of Democrat cheating. Such treason should be severely punished by the strictest of measures.

Trump wins by a SINGLE vote

He goes to court to protect his outstanding win and says recount not needed

:)

You've heard of Sinclair Media? That network and its fellow-travelers in state government have woven a coherent, self-consistent web of unreason, ravelled up from their audience's fears and loathings. Have you listened to the 'opinion' of Trump cultists? He embodies and acts out their own inner toddler.
It's not a conspiracy so much as an alternate reality. It's not constructed just for an election: it props up the entire power and wealth structure.

Because the evil clown is wearing a clown suit, it's easier to see the clown than the evil. Most Americans are probably ignorant of two thirds of the harm this administration has already done and blissfully unaware of the harm they still intend. Even apparently bright, knowledgeable people are still trusting that "the system" or foundations of democracy, the constitution, bill of rights, the law and separation of powers is robust enough to withstand a bad president. They don't seem to have noticed, or dare not admit, how many of the pylons were sawn through by previous bad presidents and how many more this one had knocked out.
The edifice can still be saved.... I suppose... holding my breath....

Trump has been setting up this scenario for months.

He has been claiming that mail in ballots are fraudulent for months and months. He put that seed of thought into the minds of his voters. Something that was taken for granted previously suddenly became something wrong and insidious and designed to take away their Trump by 'cheating' and 'fraud'.

That has been his schtick for months now.

And he lit that powder keg the moment the polls closed and they finished counting the votes posted that day and then started to count the early votes and the mail in ballots that had arrived prior to November 3rd.. And he immediately came out and demanded they stop counting the votes as it would be fraudulent to keep counting. They weren't even counting votes that had arrived after the polls closed at 8pm. He was going after pre-votes and votes already received before the election. And the reason for that is simple. He knew in Pennsylvania, for example, GOP voters were flooding in to vote on the day. And the numbers that night corresponded with that. The moment they started the early votes and mail in ballots already received, Biden's numbers shot up, because Democrat voters pre-voted and voted by mail by a massive margin.. So he demanded they stop counting clearly legitimate votes by even the definition he was screeching about.

Suddenly even those votes are now "fraud".

And his supporters buy it.

And it's not his last loyal people who are staying with him as he rants like a madman. Have you noticed how few from the GOP have come out against him? There's a few reasons for this. The main one is that they do not want to anger his voting base, those tens of millions who turned out to vote for him.. Ted Cruz and Nikki Whateverhernameis have come out parroting his words. Not because they believe him, but because they are eyeing 2024 and they will need those voters to support their push for the White House. Lack of proper support for dear leader incurs the wrath of his followers. And Trump's son called out members of the party for not vocally supporting their father enough.. Some fell into line right away. Some others just spoke out the corner of their mouths and pretended nothing was happening.

But the others remain silent. His kids are encouraging it because they lose if their father loses the election. All that influence, power they wielded goes out the window.

And Trump would rather burn the entire house down than admit he lost.

A part of me hopes he refuses to leave the White House and refuses to concede. The damage is already done. I want this evil son of a bitch to suffer the indignity of being escorted out of the White House. 220,000 dead and hundreds of children still missing.. He deserves it.

Agree. Even Trump’s aides (think: those who are closest to him and always by his side) are telling him that recounting votes in a few battleground states probably won’t make a difference because of Biden’s overall lead. That’s such a poignant statement because it shows that Trump perhaps is in denial that Biden could gain so much support, (without cheating). I think that might be what he is most upset about?

Again, agree. I haven’t watched the news today yet but the last time I checked, Trump was interested in a few of the battleground states where the margins are tighter. So, if he was winning by a small margin, would he be upset if Biden wanted a recount? Hmm. Think we know the answer to that.

He is upset because he's a bully who isn't getting his way. He's going to throw a temper tantrum. Don't be surprised if he tries to burn everything down on his way out the door.

I agree that he’s a bully, but it’s almost like he’s in shock that he didn’t win by a landslide or something. It’s really going to be interesting in a cringe kind of way to see what happens when Biden is announced the official winner, and a Trump refuses to concede. This is like a real life House of Cards.

Fuck off back to your St. Petersburg troll farm. You are the last person to have any credibility in criticising the electoral processes of the USA. :D

There is no fraud, and nothing requiring explanation, about any of this. The "red mirage" and the "blue shift" were both long foreseen phenomena, with quite prosaic explanations.

My brother, a fairly right-wing city lawyer in London, expressed similar sentiments a couple of days ago:

"I think they are dumping the Chump at last.

His disgraceful antics over the perfectly legal postal ballots will just make him the worst ever president by an even wider margin. There is no legal argument to justify a court challenge at all. And if there were he would lose it immediately.

He is a fool and is going to be dragged off kicking and screaming. I had thought the showman in him would make him suddenly make a late grab for dignity, but no. So it will be all the more satisfying seeing the machinery of the constitution grind his squealing political corpse to bits."

I couldn't put it better.

Heads on pikes, even, along with Fauci. :D

I hope these miraculous mail-in votes disappear as miraculously as his miraculously disappearing virus! We've turned the corner of the bend! You can see by the above ^^^ cartoon show just what kind of alternate reality his cultists are living in - one where anything and its exact opposite are "true" when the Big Giant Head says so, "fake" when BGH reverses himself and "super true" when he turns around again and doubles down.
