The reason for the decline in forum membership - anyone?

I believe I would be correct in saying that most topics are started with the goal of acheiving something. "Acheivement envy" could be the main motivation behind most posters who appear to be wishing to derail a threads goal. How many threads acheive their goals I wonder.

How many threads have a stated goal in the OP?

1%?

if u kill one u must then kill all, bc realizing death is being the only one left, which reveal and confirm that one is true killer or liar out of evil life

individuals should mean freedom rights and not ones rights, for what freedom is inherently opposed to one and objectively always devoted to itself rights

The Reasoons for the decline?
Bad spelling could be one.

Thread: The reasoon forthe decilne in forum membership - any one?

I wasn't going to be obsessive compulsive but the Captain's got me started. :D

If nothing else, Quantum, you have managed to convene more posters on this thread than many others have garnered of late.

arauca:

This is borderline.

You would be better off writing "Homosexual rights undermine the meaning of marriage", or something like that. But, you should also say why - otherwise it just looks like you're making unsupported claims based on personal prejudice.

You should also use a neutral term such as "gay people" or "homosexual people" rather than "Homo", which is usually regarded as disparaging and offensive.

Finally, remember that homosexual people are ... people. When you refer to a person's rights, you talk about his rights, or her rights or their rights, not its rights. Homosexual people aren't robots.

Why borderline ? we are people , we discuss what we feel and in the manner as we can, You know there are insults flying on this forum . example : theist are insulted from left to right , we don 't
scream ban so and so he offended my belief .
Because I used the word " its " wow , It is general understanding I have referred to to human. "
"Finally, remember that homosexual people are " Yes I have a brother in law he lived in my house for 2 years , I had business acquaintance it was not pleasant, ( I don't want to go into details )

I think he has gotten more attention in this "slower" period. Because of bad spelling an the intriguing posts that's been added. We are all "hypothesizing". Nothing is concrete for the....The reasoon forthe decilne in forum membership. It just is for now.

OK, I will explain it again for the newcomers. There are 2 reasons for a universal (all kind of topics) site's downturn in recent years:

1. The continued rise of specialized forums. Do you collect stamps? I bet there are a few forums for that. You have a tech problem? Plenty of sites for it.

2. The popularity of Facebook/Reddit. They both do somehow similar stuff, connect people with the same interest. Reddit is the net's biggest message board with basicly unlimited subforums and memberships in the millions.

just an example Reddit vs. Sciforums: I want to discuss a brand new movie. If I start a thread here, it takes 24 hours to get maybe 3 people who saw it. On Reddit after opening night, there are literally hundreds of responses and multiple threads discussing it. Sciforums simply can't compete....

Good point.

More people seem to be drawn to 'social media' and the science sites are by nature more designed for investigating and discussing 'science', not that plenty of socializing doesn't also transpire. I don't have a lot of 'hard science' to contribute here, but I do attempt not to transgress on the 'serious threads' and try to post observations that I think may be of interest on the appropriate threads.

One of the reasons that I prefer science forums over social media is precisely because there is less traffic, and generally a more interesting level of dialogue to me. Summer finally has arrived here so that is the reason I have been around the forums a bit less.

There are currently 627 users online. 18 members and 609 guests

giving or taking a few, that has been pretty consistent for as far back as i can remember
the numbers plunge when n.america sleeps tho

the proposition that the site lost forty thousand members

ha
qq seems to have missed The Great Pruning (of inactive accts)

Yeah I'm not seeing this putative decline in membership/activity here either.

There are occasional declines in posting volume whenever a particularly energetic troll finally gives up the ghost, but that vacuum always seems to get filled by new trolls within a few weeks. Which is kind of interesting sociological phenomenon, I think...

somewhere around 05. the guest count exploded to what we see now
probably spidered more efficiently
prior to that the member/guest ratio was slight (25/100 and whatnot)

Yeah I'm not seeing this putative decline in membership/activity here either.

I do. Maybe not in the number of post, but in activity. There used to be big debates and hatreds and stuff, now it is just lukewarm big nothing. One could say, this is how it should be, but it certainly doesn't give out a vibrant vibe of the community...

Excuse for terrible OP header?
I normally draft a post and then edit it, after I see how it "looks", which I know is totally wrong for this sort of posting, any ways sciforums doesn't allow you to edit the headings but allows you to edit the content only. So WE and i do mean WE get stuck with MY mistaken spelling/gramma.

awww and who's fault is that? Waves hand and points finger towards infinity and beyond!!!:D

I'm just waiting to hear how you intend to define 'infinity and beyond.' :D

Last time I checked on the definition of infinity, it was theoretically impossible to go beyond. ;)

as you know I am quite used to paradoxes...[chuckle].
The existance of universe is currently theoretically impossible too [double chuckle]

Look Tiassa is the biggest problem on the board. He-She won't stop moderating valid posts into oblivian while completely lacking any comprehension of your submissions.
