The Post Whatever Thread

True, Dave - also, these topics are easier to discuss online than in person, most of the time. I'm not walking up to my neighbor to get his take on ''entropy in everyday life,'' or ''should science replace religion?''

Maybe I should. Hmm......

@W4U - They alter their behaviors to ''fit in'' (adapt) so to speak?

Bassler proposes that bacterial quorum sensing, due to its billions of years of evolutionary refinements, was (is) probably the proto-model for all subsequent communication systems. Bacteria use chemistry as a communication language and all living organisms use beneficial bacteria for life. There is an entire bacterial Internet in and on our bodies. Tiny little computers performing, input-->processing-->output. Neat huh?

But, they do have to hunt for their own food.

and will starve to death in a few days, and only live a few years
and constantly have to watch out for large glass windows, cats and poison bird feed.

Hive mentality seems to be pervasive online these days. I wonder why it seems to be more apparent online, than offline. Granted, we see it in politics, and certain sectors of the media, but damn - it's really a bore.

global disenfranchisement of collective national cultural identities being exploited for elitist profit.
the constant bi-partisan reinforcement of moral fascism being set into good vs evil debates where personalitys and networks are defined as being "evil" by being not trendy and not conformist.

it is base caveman culture
playing to the aspects of human emotional bonding

global warming
global pollution
global realization that the rich elite who they idolized for their wealth really don't care about them.

the aging baby boomer and their fear(these are all the leaders of big business and countrys currently) about being left to fend for themselves as being their own medicine of political leadership and social morality...

business doesn't care unless your choosing between 2 different products ... and if your choosing, then you have choices and your lucky so should shut the hell up and stop talking about things your not supposed to have an opinion about...
alt right message for the last 3 years

''When a day that you know is Wednesday, starts off sounding like Sunday, there's something seriously wrong somewhere.'' - John Wyndham (from his book, The Day of the Triffids)

What does this mean?? :?

Maybe one needs to read the book to understand the reference. Hmm.

As I recall, the protagonist wakes up in the hospital, having hone to sleep on Tuesday night. The world is very quiet - no traffic, etc. so it seems like Sunday. It is, in fact, Wednesday but the world (as he knew it) has come to an end.

No spoilers but a triffid is a man-eating, walking plant.

Off the top of my head and not having read the book.
Sunday is suppose to be a quiet day, no one working so to speak, and so no noise. Wednesday is a work day so there's noise. Why is no one working on Wednesday?, they all watched the previous night's ''meteor showers'' and ended up blind. I did see the old film.

Wyndham also wrote The Midwich Cuckoos - every woman in the village gets pregnant at the same time and all of the children are look-alikes. The movie version was called Village of the Damned.

In an astonishing co-inky-dink, I spotted a Triffid in the wild just yesterday.

Stopped at a light, Over the tops of other cars, I saw the tufted head of a tree traipsing down the road at 20mph.

Until the pickup whose bed it was in came into view...

And was a terrific movie also, for its day.

Today (May 23rd) is National Penny Day. So if you spot a penny on the ground today, pick it up. My superstitious side tells me to only pick it up if it’s on heads, though.
