The fossil record does not prove the flood, this is absolutely certain, no serious scientist has thought that for 100 years.
The fossil record can not explain:
- The iridium anomaly. Why there is a thirty cm layer of iridium rich soil at the Cretaceous and Eocene stratae.
- Why there are fossilized burrows of crayfish and the hives of ants all through the column. And why the hives are organised into greater complexity the higher up you get(eg. more specialised chambers). Why does the morphology of the burrows match the morphology of the animals matched in the same strata?
- Why are the fossils of Trilobites not found in strata later than the Permian? Esp. when creatures such as molluscs are found all through the geologic column.
- Why isn't there a single mammal before the jurrassic?
- Why isn't there a single dinosaur after the Permian Period? Some dinosaurs are of comparable size to large mammals why didn't the flood deposit them in the same place?
- Throughout the strata there is fossilized amber. In the amber there are air bubbles. The older the amber the higher the oxygen concentration. Are you saying that the flood sorted amber by the amount of oxygen in its bubbles? http://minerals.cr.usgs.gov/gips/na/0amber.htm
Obviously, the flood has no chance in Hades of explaining this level of sorting. Feel free to try, though.
