The cheaper one is execution for the criminal will not live that long to have the taxpayers pay their upkeep for 30 to 60 years or more. Imagine all the hospital expenses, medicines, security guards pay and other things that must be paid for if those criminals are given life sentences. You'd rather pay millions to keep them alive until they die in prison? Tell me why?

Speaking of barbarity, recently in Iran there was the public hanging of a kidnapper and rapist. I think only murder deserves the death penalty, not other crimes. In Southeast Asia you can be executed for drug smuggling.
In Saudi Arabia this man who hacked his friend in the back was gonna get a surgical procedure to paralyse him. An eye for an eye. I think it's actually a better form of punishment than a prison sentence.

You think surgically paralysing someone is preferable to a prison sentence?
Rapists should be fucked in the eye.
To whom? To the criminal? Of course not.
But at least he gets a taste of his own medicine, and he is able to realize the seriousness and effects of his actions. Too late by then, but perhaps people should learn. That actions have serious consequences and if you inflict grievous hurt it is also too late for the victim.
The major drawback is the debate over the rightful way in which to implement this.
