respect for the dead?

Imo the respect lies in the recognition of a lifetime as a contribution to the overall experience of existance. The interpretation of the contribution as such is completely subjective.

you know whats amussing about this convention? it means you cant critise suicide bombers because they are dead and you dont speak ill of the dead

No, no, that's not what it means at all! The convention, the idealism, is in place to help protect the innocent family members of the dead person.

No one is saying that we can't criticize the dead, just that it's not nice to do so in front of his family or his close friends. In other words, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."

Once you're back at the local bar or pub, you can scream out your hatred of the dead guy all you want and few, if any, would deny you that right.

Asguard, it's a matter of respect for the family and friends of the living. Surely you can understand that, can't you?

Baloney. The 1st person who said it might or might not have intended it to help protect the innocent family members of the dead person. That is not how the vast majority of people use it. It's said at funerals, pubs, beds, sports arenas, businesses, the IRS, cruise ships & everywhere else & it usually comes out as a command. Idiots even fight over it.

What are you talking about? Say what? ...Baloney? I don't get it. When do the vast majority of people talk about baloney all the time? You seem to be confused or something.
