Muslim Woman Jailed Over Head Scarf

I imagine this rule has to do with old fashioned rule that it is impolite for a man to wear his hat indoors...and is just dress code rule to keep people from wearing baseball caps in court. There are also rules about not wearing shorts or sleeveless shirts for men.

I don't think the rule was meant to cover this. It wasn't a security issue, as she would have had to walk through a metal detector.

Seems like everyone is stressed and overreacting. Its silly on both sides, surely there are more important things to do in court than argue dress codes?

I can say to anyone I like, in MY restaurant, that they must obey the dress code. Which for old geezers from Georgia, is sans trousers. Any expletives will be met with detainment for obscene language in a public place. I have a right to expel people and deal with security inside my restaurant so far as the law allows. The law says obscene language in public is a crime, therefore I would detain, restrain with plastic ties, and hand any perpetrator over to the authorities, and file charges.

Would a restaurant, or a nightclub do this to a chemotherapy patient? Or someone who was wearing a scarf to conceal a nasty scar or whatever? That security in a courtroom would hang on headscarf wearing, seems just a little thin, don't you think?

And your restaurant would be bankrupt in the first month,

The Judge Rules in the Court Room, the State Law gives him the Right to decide either way, it is His call.

And has been pointed out caps and gang related wear is restricted all the time.

Now what would be fun if you owned a restaurant and ordered only old white dudes to remove their trousers, I see a great pay out for the First Old White Dude who sued you for discrimination and sexual harassment, for that is exactly what I would do.

I've seen restaurants that said "shirts and shoes required" Be interesting to see one that said, "please take off pants before entering"

In the courtroom, the judge is God. You could hide a knife up there.

I Knew it was coming, but you missed the important part of this news... let me help you,

"Kelley Jackson, a spokeswoman for Georgia Attorney General Thurbert Baker, said state law doesn't permit or prohibit head scarfs.
"It's at the discretion of the judge and the sheriffs and is up to the security officers in the court house to enforce their decision," she said.'

So, there were no fucking rules. But you had to make an excuse, I can understand that.. :)

I didn't say a law, I said a rule. It's one of the judge's rules. They are like doctors, the law is a serious business. Would she insist on keeping her scarf on for brain surgery?

WOW looks like GA is going back to its roots. South wants to keep the hate and racist tradition alive.

As stupid as it sounds, if your a cop and someone is refusing to take it off, how do you know something dangerous isn't being hid by it. Yes she may be telling the truth, but some people lie. You could conceal a bomb under a robe or something. Why do you guys think there's such tight border control, because a bomber could get into the US.

Everybody stay where you are, or I'll fix your hair!

I'm curious what she could be hiding under the scarf that wouldn't be either visually apparent or detectable by security systems. Is she going to hijack a plain with a bobby pin?

The poor woman, faced with a terrible dilemma. 10 days in the jug for wearing the hijab or face religious persecution if she doesn't. Allah was putting her to the test. Crowbar Hotel never looked so good. Kind of makes you wonder what was in store for her if she'd have removed the hijab. Horrors!!!

What kind of knife? I would imagine having to walk through metal detectors when even entering the court buildings, a knife would have shown up. And that scarf looks fairly tightly tied to her head.

So, what you are saying is that a judge can make up his/her own rules in his/her court, even if it goes against the US Constitution? Righto..

She wasn't going for brain surgery. She was entering a court room.

And no, judges are not like doctors. Far from it.

It doesn't go against the constitution by any means. What kind of knife? A ceramic one, or plastic, or wood.

Yes, it would. You would go bankrupt trying to bring a suit against me for a rule, that applied to all men and women - no trouser wearers allowed in the restaurant. Dresses are ok. Kilts too.

How is that discrimination? Just because I deign to apply it only to this particular judge, means you have to prove I applied the dress code discriminately, I discriminated against this old white dude. It would get expensive.
