"Higher level"? When they have half the inheritance and legal testimony rights? When it's impossible for a woman to prove rape when they require four (!) witnesses to prove it? When women are not allowed to divorce men, but men are allowed to divorce women merely by saying "I divorce you" three times? When women are not allowed to drive, vote, attend school, or even leave the house unaccompanied in "fundamental" islam? When muslim men are allowed to marry non-muslim women, but non-muslim men are not allowed to marry muslim women? When a woman's marriage is decided for her by her male relatives, rather than being her own free choice? When women are murders are carried out by said male relatives for "dishonouring" their families or their religion by being insufficiently muslim? When beatings (Q 4:11) may be legally used on women in sharia to force obedience to their husbands or male relatives?

My. What a different concept you have of "higher level".

Bring your quotes, if ye be truthful.

Geoff

PS: Israel has them because they need a failsafe to counteract the fact they're outnumbered 100 to 1 in the region by people that hate them. Don't you think that hate, coupled with numerical advantage, incited Israel to develop such weapons?

Seriously.

Geoff,

before i reply ( to the islamic bit)what country are you from???!!!???!! Al;l i can say at the moment is that my wife would be choking if she heard what you had to say, as she was no way on earth forced to marry me, and she can divorce me when ever she wants. if i did beat her then all hell would break lose also. i still think you are getting confused with some dispicable people, but anyways pls tell me where you are from, and i will get the quotes together.

i still dont see why israel needs nukes though man, their army is more then enough for the arabs as i have said many times before, espicially with the backing of the mighty US. Any how i seem to remember a couple of years ago or so, that the Arabs (Saudi plan) were going to give Israel full peace and diplomatic relations and so on and so forth, if they pulled back to the 67 borders thus letting the palestinian people have a land of their own. But i think the murderer Sharon (pls dont disagree with that) said no.

cheers geoff

hUMMM, only if ALL sides admit their own wrong doing and want to change for a better world.

i think stupidity, arrogance, and the meddling of external powers will have a lot to do with any chance of change

Always ready; off you go now.

Unfortunately for your argument, my nationality has nothing to do with this debate.

Now geoff,

You got me in serious trouble last night with my wife. when i explained to her that she should right something on womens rights on islam, she was not to pleased.

She said who are you to lecture her on womens rights in Islam, i think you insulted her a bit here geoff. My wife is MSc educated and thus can not understand where you are coming from at all. She asked me to ask you whether you have read the entire Quran or are just picking out bits to suit you argument. This is rather like the Mullahs and the fundamentalist nuts who extract bits if the Quran out of context and use it to oppress the people.

i know it was my idea to get my wife to reply so i dont blame you geoff.

I can give you some quotes geoff but again you could tell me i have extracted what i like to suit my argument!!

On a practical note, my wife is muslim, she was not forced to marry me, she is educated to Msc level, her sister is educated to degree level, is a teacher and is married, again not through force or through her brothers/fathers demands. My sisters are both degree level educated and they were not forced to marry either. My cousin (who is a girl) has only just got married at the age of 29!! she is also degree level educated, and she actually turned down 12 proposals for marriage cos she did not think the guy was her type or right for her.

All the females who afe legally old enough drive in my family, and in fact another one of my cousins got divorced last year, for her reasons not her ex-husbands, who is a bit shell shocked by it still!!!

We are all muslims Geoff, in fact the women in my family are much more serious abiout the religion then the men!!

What i am saying Geoff is dont listen to propaganada, or dont tarnish all muslims with the same brush just becuase you read something somewhere, about some fucked up situation in a tiny village in pakistan or somewhere

Sorry you got in trouble with your wife with the MSc.

I should also then ask: who are muslims to criticize Western values and principles? Who are they to riot over cartoons? Who are you to demand to know which nation I come from? And - again - why would that matter?

I confess to feeling a little insulted myself.

Regrettably, the setting of "separate roles" for women in the Quran, the permission to beat them (Q 4:11) and their subordinate status in matters of jurisprudence and inheritance mean that women are not equals in islamic law - sharia. Find any country today where sharia is applied and there are always restrictions on women that do not apply to any man. Whether it be driving or attending school, sharia places restrictions on women. Where women enjoy freedoms in an islamic country, it's the result of modern Western influences, not the offshoot of sharia. Iraq, for example, elected a highly religious government and already there are those showing up to restrict women's integration into Iraqi society. You do the math.

If one places a man in the position of near godhood, such that he is the "al-insar al-kamil", the "perfect man" for all muslims to emulate for all time, and if that man is in fact flawed, deeply, horribly flawed, then there's a problem. My issue isn't with muslims; it's with what muslims do to non-muslims, and it's how non-muslims are treated in islamic countries. No amount of pleading that these countries aren't "truly" muslim will make my criticisms of the deliberate oppression of "kufr" by muslims in those nations go away.

So, I'm not listening to any propaganda - merely reading my Quran, and the hadiths, and the opinions of muslims around the world. If hate and oppression is being spewed from the mosques and streets and televisions of those quarters day in and day out, it is not my fault.

Look inward.

Again - explain to me how it's relevant, and I'd be happy to do so.

What's the matter? Why can't you give a reason?

Its strange geoff how the USA has not had a Women President yet, but even Pakistan has had a Women prime minister.

Please geoff why so much hatred, I dont see where the Quran puts any mortal man in God like or near god Like status, that is completely wrong in islam and that is one of the only differences between christians and muslims in the fact the christians think Jesus (PBUH) is the son of God and thus God.

Rreligious toleraance in the Quran, you must have missed these bits when you read your Quran

The Messenger [Muhammad] believes in what has been revealed to him from his Lord, as do the [people] men of faith. Each one [of them] believes in Allah, His angels, His books, and His Messengers. 'We make no distinction' (they say) between one and another of his Messengers, And they say: 'We hear and we obey: [we seek] thy forgiveness, our Lord, and to Thee is the end of all journeys T.Q. Sura 2, The Cow. verse 285.

And another

The same religion has He established for you as that which He enjoined on Noah -that which we have sent by inspiration to you- and that which we enjoined on Abraham, Moses, and Jesus: Namely, that ye should remain steadfast in Religion, and make no divisions therein. T.Q. Sura 42, The Consultation, verse 13.

and another
'We believe in Allah, and the revelation given to us, and to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and that given to Moses and Jesus, and that given to (all) Prophets from their Lord; We make no difference between one and another of them and we bow to Allah in adherence and submission. T.Q., Sura 2, The Cow, verse 136.

lets now look at womens rights and stuff,

womens rights are:

The right and duty to obtain education.

The right to have their own independent property.

The right to work to earn money if they need it or want it.

Equality of reward for equal deeds.

The right to participate fully in public life and have their voices heard by those in power.

The right to provisions from the husband for all her needs and more.

The right to negotiate marriage terms of her choice.

The right to obtain divorce from her husband, even on the grounds that she simply can't stand him.

The right to keep all her own money (she is not responsible to maintain any relations).

The right to get sexual satisfaction from her husband.

Hiopefully some of my thoughts are giving you a different perspective on Muslims attitude to life and to others.

geoff please dont get upset with me cos i am asking where you are from, its only a little fun and sorry for winding you up so much.

It seems you intolerance of Muslims is like these so called muslims intolerance about others you speak of.

Anwyay geoff this lot should be in another thread,

take care now and i hope to hear from you soon.

God bless
