Hudson family killers should live, because...

Well, think about it - if the person kills himself, how would you go about charging him with any crime at all ...including the murder charge?

In states that do this the charge is brought against his estate, which harms his already greaving relatives.

I know of no state which allows something like that or any that have that right by way of law. I sometimes wish they did, but then....?

I think what you're talking about is a civil suit ...like "wrongful death", which is brought against the family by the victims family. The "state" is not involved in such lawsuits.

suicide n. the intentional killing of oneself. Ironically, in most states suicide is a crime, but if successful there is no one to punish. However, attempted suicide can be a punishable crime (seldom charged against one surviving the attempt). "Assisted suicide" is usually treated as a crime, either specifically (as in Michigan) or as a form of homicide (second degree murder or manslaughter), even when done as a kindness to a loved one who is terminally ill and in great pain.

Now that could certianly be mistaken, I make no claims as a legal authority, and various sources seem to differ in regard to the current state of the law on this issue.

An interesting addition to one's online library:
