Feds Bust Terror Plot at JFK

Stop being obtuse. Bush's plan was to remake the middle east. To end the cycle of oppression and dictatorship that feeds extreemism.
Had that been his aim, Iraq would not have been his target.

If he cared about Islamic terrorism, even now, why did the US fund Fatah in Lebanon, or the Sunni jihadists in Baluchistan, against Iran?

Few, if any, Islamic jihadists came out of Iraq, until recently.

If you look at Iraq now, you simply cannot tell me that there are no terrorists there that are coming to attack the US or somewhere else, we all know there are. At this point it would do less damage to stay in and finish up,
From where do people get this confidence that we are going to somehow, magically, quit doing more damage by staying in Iraq?

As far as terrorism, "winning" in Iraq - denying AQ and the other jihadist factions access or operations there, somehow - would have about the same effect as just leaving. Either way, the terrorists simply find another place to battle. The terrorists are not confined to Iraq now, btw - we're due for another major AQ strike domestically in a year or so, and the weapons and training available in Iraq right now are better than anything they ever had in Afghanistan.

If you were an Iraqi, how would you view the US making a foreign terrorist battleground out of your country - quite explicitly, with even the US President saying it's better to fight them "over there" (inside Iraq, in your town, with your family and relatives as victims) ) than "over here" ( in the country that wants this fight) ?

btw: the roots of Islamic jihad are in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Egypt, Yemen, Algeria, and a couple others. If you want to attack the roots, those are your countries of target.

That may (or may not?) have been the "roots" of terrorism, but to attack those nations now is sorta' like attacking the parents of a murderer in the hopes of stopping the acts of the murderer. That's a pretty odd thing to suggest, ain't it?

The "roots" of Muslim terrorism ain't got nothin' to do with terrorism today ...it's spread all over the world now and we must find it and kill it ...just like we do with other cancers!!

What blows me away even more is how this terror story is over. Gone. Done.
Yet Imus says "nappy headed ho" and it's top news for 7 (!!) days.
W.T.F.???

the hole thing was blown out of proportion light the jet fuel line would not blow up jfk airport. what i find scary about was people as stupid as these guys were trying to commit terroristic acts

Yes, but the story was easy to hype because of a persistent public ignorance.

Those with basic critical thinking skills understand that these suspects were not skillful operatives by any stretch of the imagination. Those with even a little aviation or chemistry knowledge know that Jet A is nothing like rocket fuel- It's just kerosene: It won't flash back through a pipeline; doesn't vaporize readily like gasoline; you can put out fires with kerosene, so long as you don't atomize it.

But in an America reticent about the realities of terrorism, the more mundane, less sensationalist truth doesn't grab TV ratings and can't provide alarmist and authoritarian political soundbytes.

Yet there is a clumsy pattern becoming increasingly obvious. The instigators of the present US-Arab shitstorm had better hope for another more serious attack, before more Americans realize they have been had by their own power-grabbing, corporate-bought, fear-mongering leadership.

Haven't been keeping up with the news very well, have you?????? It's still an important news story. The most recent part is that the fourth suspect just surrendered. There's also a lot of serious discussions making the news about how vunerable pipelines are. And the hearings and court date are yet to come...
