Is it wrong for my company to force me to take days off on religious holidays that I don't believe in?

Are you kidding? Everybody should get more holidays :poke:

You know what, in Indonesia, if you are pregnant, by law you are only allow to
take 3 months paid leave. This is difficult for moms, because normally it means
they have to work till they are 8 months pregnant, and then go back to work
only 2 months after giving birth.

In Germany, if you are pregnant, you can get 1 year paid leave!! Imagine if you
are giving birth like every year :D

Yes, Enmos. I don't get the point why Saturday should also be closed. Me, if I
have power in government and allowed to decide 2 days holiday in a week, I'll
make Sunday and Thursday be holidays. That way, you can have pause in the
mid of the week. Working 5 or 6 days in a row is exhausting, whereas holidays
2 days in a row is boring, especially when all shops are closed. :p

If I had power in the government I would resign immediately :p

I suppose so. Well, some business run 7 days a week anyway, like hospital,
hotel, public transport. Perhaps stores are not so urgent.

They are not so urgent, but the stores can make a lot more profit if they stay open 24/7. At least supermarkets.
The thing is these Christian governments won't allow it. I'd be surprised if the stores themselves don't want to be open 24/7 for reasons other than religious ones.

It is a trade-off between profit and family time. I suppose it is because European
countries are rich. In my country, shops are open 7 days a week. There is no
limitation till which hours they should close everyday. If I watch Italian league
at 3 AM in the morning (about 9 PM German time), there are always these people
who sells some noodle or something passing my house. Likely everywhere in the city.

But they can cycle personnel.. then everyone can have family time.
They do it in places like McDonalds..

If both husband and wife are working or having career (which is common), how do you make
sure everyone each couple get the same cycle time?

It can be done if the boss is willing, but it seems a separate matter.
Especially since most people working at supermarkets are young people anyway.

It's having a good time with family, not free food and booze.. :bugeye:

So do atheists pray with their families, if its not the food and booze?

Considering how much they abhor the imposition of religious expression in public, how come they do not protest against the imposition of religious festivals on themselves?

No religious festival is imposed on me. I am forced to take a national public holiday, religion has nothing to do with it.

I bet if you moved to a country without theists, there would be no "national public holidays" on religious festival days. So I'd say its pretty much imposed on you. I did not get Diwali vacations in the US, for example. Or even Eid. :(

But no 'religious festival' is imposed on me. There is a public holiday whose origins trace back to the Christian and Pagan religions.

You may be surprised to know that we even call our days of the week Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday ect....

Yeah, whats with that?

Talk about religion imposing itself everywhere! So do you get a public holiday for Eid or Diwali?

Pray ? I'm not aware of additional praying during religious holidays.
Besides, no one in my family prays anymore.. everyone is either atheist or is 'privately religious'.
I've only got two remaining grandparents, and only one of those is religious enough to pray before and after dinner. And everyone respects that.
