Deadly shooting at US university

As a longtime public school employee I have to say I'm shocked the university had chains on the doors. In 2007! This District banned that old practice 15 years ago for fire safety reasons. No cameras on the campus?! In 2007? I know the university is there to educate, not prepare for massacres but every single building in my District has cameras inside and outside. A reaction to Columbine. It was very expensive but voters approved the bond overwhelmingly.
This university will have some backlash for the poor safety features and lack of security or organization. Once again we all watch the SWAT teams hiding behind trees wearing flak jackets. Once again they wait until the massacre is over then run inside.
The more I think of this event the more it turns my stomach.

and aslong as there is fear anger will exist.

young padawon :)

no but seriously

fear leads to frustration, frustration leads to anger, anger leads to murdering your entire class with an automatic weapon :)

peace.

VitalOne,

People ignore the actual cause. The cause isn't guns, violent videogames, or anything like that, its anger. As long as anger exists, things like this will continue to happen....

I would tend to disagree, I think it is Respect, if you don't respect your self, you won't respect others, and you will receive no respect from them, and with out respect for others, their lives become unimportant to you and they can be killed with out mercy or thought because they don't matter in your life.

you expect the police force or special weapons teams to actualy save some people? they are basicaly a glorified clean up crew :)

peace.
Seems to be the case. Just like in every event like this they rush in, hide behind trees and cars then after the massacre they go in. Isn't the point to rush the bldg, put yourself in danger to save lives and apprehend/kill the perp? I know these cases are complicated but what use is a high tech SWAT team when they are hiding from the gunfire?

I agree to a certain extent with this notion. But this does not really contradict what I said. The cause is anger, anger it in itself has many other causes like the ones you described. Anger is frustration, desperation, craving, etc.....

You can argue that fear leads to anger, but I don't think fear in itself is the same as anger. Someone full of fear is different from someone full of anger.

i agree, but we have to remember there are different tpes of fear and different types of anger,

one can lead to anouther and vice versa, fear can lead to anger and anger can lead to fear, emotions are fickle and vary in different situations, but one thing is for sure,

if a person is happy, calm, content, and at peace with himself and the world around him, he wouldent kill, unless he is hungry :)

we are animals maybe we just hav to accept bad things in life at times.

Few questions for every one.

1-How come no one blamed it on muslims yet?

2- Why wasn't it called Terrorism?

3- Is it only terrorism when muslims are involve?

4-So it is okay to call 5 imams terrorists who were praying at the airport, but not okay to call this ruthless killer a terrorist cause he wasn't muslims?

5- How come BBC and CNN didn't mentioned his religion yet? Why haven't they called him Atheist Killer or Christian killer or Budhist killer?

Just few simple questions.

Thanks in advance.

they are humans too, and dont want to get shot :) ofcourse they ar thinking of there own safety before the safety of others, otherwise they would storm in without concern for there own health.

true acts of selfless bravery are not seen too often, but its only there job i guess.

i have acted in true selfless sacrifice before, but for my friends and family, not realy for random strangers, maybe if there own family members were in the uni they would storm in like the wind.

because the current meaning of terrorist, is someone who inflicts fear on purpose to a population as a way to dissable them,

this guy was just shooting people because he has issues :) he was not trying to inflict fear on the usa to try and hault the nation as a working society,

thats how i see it anyway basically,

he did inflict terror in the hearts of people though, but i dont think his main aim was to terrorise a populous, more like kill them all :).

When you respect yourself and others, this is a possible state of mind to achieve

Eventually, a chinese guy is able to Shock the whole USA, but what he did is less severe than Mr Bush who killed thousands in Iraq.

You have only answer like 1.5 of my questions. But mass killing is terrorism isn;t it? How about some one answer all the questions?

But thats a completely different situation. In warfare, people are expected die, because its war. However this was not war, this was students attending class at college....

He was exactly right.
Terrorism is all about intention.
The terrorist must have a goal (usually collective) to accomplish, and uses the method to scare people and help him achieve that goal.
A terrorist can be a mass murderer, but a mass murderer is not necessarily a terrorist.
A terrorist is a warrior for a cause that uses methods of warfare against civilian populations.

sorry i didnt see the need to answer all of the questions, just informing you of the definition of a terrorist i thought was adaquate.

1-How come no one blamed it on muslims yet?

Uh... because Muslims weren't involved.
2- Why wasn't it called Terrorism?
Because terrorism has political aims. This guy did not.

3- Is it only terrorism when muslims are involve?

No. See Northern Ireland, for past examples.

4-So it is okay to call 5 imams terrorists who were praying at the airport, but not okay to call this ruthless killer a terrorist cause he wasn't muslims?

No idea what you're rambling about here.

5- How come BBC and CNN didn't mentioned his religion yet?

Probably because (a) they don't know; and (b) it is irrelevant.

Just few simple questions.

No worries. Hope it is clear for you now.
