Corona Virus 2019-nCoV

I read that drugs to kill corona virus coming soon.
You read wrong. There is nothing out there that will kill SARS-CoV-2 once you are infected. (Without killing you as well, that is.)

There are a few drugs that do work a little:
Remdesivir is an antiviral that has a slight effect on COVID-19. Not a big one, but more than zero.
Baricitinib is a steroid that reduces the inflammation in your lungs if you get a bad case of COVID-19. Doesn't kill the virus but helps you survive it.

There is also convalescent plasma and monoclonal antibodies. These are not drugs, but are treatments that can help.

And of course there is the vaccine which is the best tool to fight COVID-19 that we have so far.

Unfortunately so far it has done the opposite.
Yes, but we're still in a phase where there is a plethora of unvaccinated hosts available to the virus.

Once the virus has taken out the "easy" targets, it will be under pressure to evolve or else essentially disappear from the population.

I mean selection pressure, or environmental pressure - something like that.
I would think possibly internal (DNA) pressure to be opportunistic might do...
There is little doubt that viruses like this one are incredibly opportunistic and that would include it's reproduction, evolution and mutation. But once the opportunity is removed (Global vaccination and social distancing etc) surely it would die out?

Molnupiravir can kill covid-sar2 virus.
Not quite. It doesn't kill the virus, but slows down replication of the virus. In trials it reduces serious illness and death by about 40%. By no means a cure, but definitely better than nothing.

President-elect Joe Biden says Americans won't be forced to take a coronavirus vaccine when one becomes available in the US.

It comes as the nation's health protection agency for the first time urged "universal mask use" indoors, apart from when Americans are at home.

Joe finally is coming back to his sense.

I agree 100% that masks are the best and only protection needed against this virus. I say this because this virus is transmitted solely by breathing.

Same as a good condom is what is needed for women to avoid becoming pregnant when having sex, a good mask also is what is needed to avoid gettting the virus. No need of pills in the fisrt case, no need of vaccines in the second case. A good mask is all what is needed.

This infection of the virus was a "pandemic" because in its beginning killed thousands of thousands of people who had health conditions and because the infections caught everyone off guard.

However, after the use of masks and long before the vaccine, it was observed that the infections lowered in great percent. Plus, it was also observed that the infections with the flu also diminished with the use of the masks.

Today, the infection worldwide is not a pandemic anymore but just a reduced infection wave. The virus is getting more weaker each time.

If at the beginning was a storm, today is just rain, and hope that soon becomes just drizzle.

So far, the way I see it, using masks might be a better established solution for both: the COVID virus and the FLU.

Nothing has changed. He has never called for the use of force to vaccinate people.

They are good protection. Unfortunately the right wing is doing everything it can to stop masking.

Nope.

It is still killing thousands of people a week - even with masks.

Well, delta was stronger. But you are correct - between masking, vaccines and better treatments, the death rate is coming down. In January (before vaccines) it was killing about 3500 people a day in the US. Now it's only killing 1000 a day. Better, but we have a ways to go.

Just for the record, a quick update.
The world has officially declared 5.336 million deaths in just under 2 years of pandemic.
  • Brazil has passed 617,000 deaths (deaths per million = 2874) placed 12th globally dpm
  • USA has passed the 800,000 deaths toll with currently 821,000 and counting. (deaths per million = 2460) 20th place globally dpm
  • UK has passed 476,000 fatalities (deaths per million = 2144) 29th place global dpm

It is highly likely that fatalities in places like India and China and to some extent Russia are severely understated.

With out emergency vaccinations being available, one can only wonder what the stats would look like today...as it has been shown that general population lock down's were and are collectively ineffective against the Delta and now the Omicon variant in the medium to long term.
Or to rephrase as a (rhetorical?) question :
How many people have the vaccinations prevented the death of.?

Tell that to the parents who believe that making your child wear a mask is child-abuse.
Was just thinking on it and tend to believe that teaching children how to wear proper masking is a good step to aiding them should the world go through another pandemic, which it certainly will at some stage due to globalization.
I guess it is just another thing children have to learn...

easy math
assuming you can access the real stats
Perhaps it is that stat that would be handy to know of when confronting an anti-vaxer.
eg.
"If it wasn't for the discovery and implementation of vaccines (x) number of people would be dead..."
"If it wasn't for the discovery and implementation of vaccines the global economy would be in what state?"

Perhaps but they are known to be carriers and easily infect their older siblings and parents etc...
Also long term implications are essentially unknown for those children growing towards adulthood. Puberty, adolescence etc.
A potential candidate virus to draw potential similarities in the future could be the:
Epstein - Barr virus (Glandular fever - kissing disease etc) and how it could be implicated indirectly in many conditions and syndromes that are currently struggling to find direct causation's.

im not sure it would make a significant difference
we want less people
but less bad people
if we cant have less bad people
then just less people is better as the current frame of "people" is a majority of bad

convincing those who do not believe in science seems like a waste of time
why breed & extend that culture to become even larger & more influential & thus more damaging to long term civilization ?

Epstein - Barr virus
re-activation ?
that would be nasty
clever too

i have speculated about herpes many times
simply because of its prevalence

there is such a long way to go before most modern countries share equally their food housing & healthcare just among themselves
not to mention other hundreds of millions if not billions of people.

soo many liars pretending & scamming & being selfish

look at the anti abortion issue
they demand breeding & birthing but then demand the child should starve to death or die horribly of preventable illnesses
in a modern 1st world country

how do you(they) morally balance that ?(im honestly interested in your opinion if you feel like saying anything about that)
