Not sure whether this has already been stated, but Chavez did not shut down the radio station, but just did not renew its licence,. thats a bit bifferent in my opinion.

Well as you hate sensationalism and have badgered me for being sensationalist i was a little confused as to why you titled the thread "Chavez Shuts down Free speech", perhaps a better title of the thread should be
"Chavez does not renew licence for radio station"

You're beginning to sound like Sam now, Lix, thinking that the USA is actually able to force everyone and everything on the planet to what they want. Sam thinks we bring down entire foreign regimes with just a couple of CIA men with little 9mm handguns. You, at least, give some credit to economic influence.
If there's something wrong in the world, just blame the USA, ....it's easier than searching for the right reason, or to blame oneself.

Hummm i think iit says in the article that the 40 demonstrated killed by the police was when Carmona was in power (for his glorious 48 hours). And Carmona did loads like arresting Judges shutdown the supreme court etc,...
So killing your own people is evil ig vive you that Sandy, but how about killing other people. is that not just as evil?
