Chavez Shuts Down Free Speech!

No, you're wrong, Lix. The congress of the USA voted to go to war with Iraq, so it was NOT just the President. It was the entire nation of the USA. Read your history.

Baron Max

Incorrect. The Iraq Resolution was NOT a vote to go to war.

Not if we'd fought it like a war. Instead, we tied the military's hands, then forced them to try to be a police force.

Baron Max

i heard a hypothesis that if the iraqi military would have not being dismantled then it would have helped to prevent the civil war. but looking at things, so many dead, so many US soldiers lost their lives. if you would go and ask the iraqis before the war, they would say it was good under saddam rule.

Yes U.S. soldiers gave their lives and that is sad. It is also the cost of war.

We lose more Americans every year here from illegal aliens killing us.
And in traffic accidents.

We love and appreciate our troops. We thank them for fighting for our freedom.

And the US has "free media" like Faux News, owned by Murdoch? or the Triangle of Death: Limbaugh, Hannity, O'Reilly?

Any corporate media has a point of view which it promotes.

C. Stating Opinions
If you have an opinion, back it up with evidence, a valid argument and even links and references if possible.

Incorrect use of terms, O Spidergoat. Opinions require NO evidence - claims, however, do. She did make a claim, though, and should substantiate it.

If it had merely been an opinion she was presenting, it should have started out with something like, "I think we loose...."

WTF are you babbling about?
I guess you don't know who's administration was presiding over the USA when the decision to invade was made. It sure wasn't Abraham Lincoln.

I think Chavez is a real dictator in the same way that Sandy is an actual female and non-troll.

Hey, I didn't make the rules.

Though no federal statistics are kept on murders or any other crimes committed by illegal aliens, a number of groups have produced estimates based on data collected from prisons, news reports and independent research.

Estimates? How did they derive those numbers? I have heard the same thing from Count Sodoku, but there was alot of strange figuring involved. This number is certainly not reliable, and it's ultimately meaningless if the rate is the same as the general population. That means that the US should never increase it's population whatsoever, because the number of crimes will increase.

I wasn't talking about rules OR actual numbers. I was just pointing out the misapplication of the word "opinion" vs the word "claim." Opinions don't require any proof or justification but claims do. And she made a claim (rather than stating an opinion) and should have to justify it. On that last part we agree :) - the first was just using the wrong word. And if the rules DO state that opinions should be backed up with evidence then whoever wrote the rules should be given a dictionary as a mid-year present (don't wait until Christmas). ;)

Chavez should not shut down TV stations in this fashion. It is not courageous of him, and will have bad side effects.

On the other hand, no US TV station that behaved as that Venezuaelen one did would keep its license to broadcast for five minutes after getting caught. It is illegal, in the US, to aid and abet military coup against the government, call for the assassination of the President, act as an unregistered an clandestine agent of a foreign power in political action, etc.

There are US citizens in jail now for threatening or promoting the assassination of the President. To use a TV station for this purpose would definitely attract the attention of Homeland Security.

US is different. They don't shut your TV station down, they kill you.

As for Chavez, try putting yourself in his dillema. It is not as if he just woke up, and decided to shut these mofos down. They have been at it for years. Many are involved in blatant criminal activity. He didn't have much of an option.

The US is another story. Bush banned Madonna's video.

That's bullshit and you know it!! There are laws in this nation, and to shut down a tv station or radio station on those or any grounds would take years of trials and special investigations and a whole slew of attorneys!

Where do you get you silly-assed ideas of the powers of the US government?? Wherever you get 'em, it's fucked up.

There are US citizens in jail now for threatening or promoting the assassination of the President.

Who? Where? When? Saying such bullshit without any documentation is pretty underhanded and shitty of you, ya' know.

Baron Max

Like ....for instance? Who? Where? When? Or is this just more of you running off at the mouth?

Without a trial? Without any legal evidence presented in a court of law? Just Chaves deciding it all on his own? I think that's call a dictatorship, ain't it?

The US is another story. Bush banned Madonna's video.

Huh? When was this incident? How 'bout some evidence or documentation?
