Bear with jar stuck on its head killed in MN

Wtf ? They can shoot it with a bullet but not with a tranquilizer ? How hard can it be to get hold of one
Poor bear.. :(

Yeah, even being from a hunting family, this doesn't make sense to me. Since it had the jar stuck on its head for several days and was starved and dehydrated maybe they thought they were just putting it out of its misery.
I wonder if it was a nuisance bear who had been there before. They usually catch/tag them and transport them out. But if they come back, they kill them. Does it looked like it has a tag on its ear in the pic? It does to me.

Oh, and if you remove all the hair from that undernourished bear, I think you have the Bigfoot from another thread's pics.

So we should just kill all animals that wonder into our "territory". Thats a good solution...

Its human territory now. Humans migrate same as any other animal. Humans are part of the environment. A bear kills a human and people say "it was just doing what bears do" A human kills a bear and yet no one says "he was just doing what humans do"

Anyways, as the article says, no one who was there said anything against killing it. They probably know more about the situation than we do. Maybe they saw an animal suffering and considered it the humane thing to do. Personally I think they should have waited for the DNR, but if it had a tagged, it was gonna be put down anyways.

Do you think they killed the bear because they are gun toting blood thirsty rednecks?

I get your anger on this one Skaught, It was human's fault that the bear had a jar on it's head...last time I checked restaurant sized mayo jars don't occur in nature. It was our responsibility to correct it.

With jar on his head, the bear could probably barely see. (no pun intended) I sure he also had problems breathing, so I don't think he'd be able to do much mauling before he was winded out. Plus he was starving and dehyraded. The cops should have kept a perimeter around the bear till a tranq gun could be found.

Poor bear..he was just doing what bears do...forage for food. With the jar on his head, he didn't have any idea where he was headed, since he couldn't see or smell. I'm sure that's how he wondered into to town.

Norsefire:
If they pose a threat.

So a dehydrated bear with a jar on its head poses a risk? Hah!

Orleander:

Its human territory now. Humans migrate same as any other animal.

Humans don't 'migrate', they spread like a cancer and proliferate unchecked by natural selection. It's hardly a surprise that bears come into contact with humans when humans continually breed and enroach on bear territory.

Humans are part of the environment.

Hardly. Humans are at war with the environment, which is why their arrival always coincides with a reduction in biodiversity and the alteration of said environment so that it becomes hostile to most life forms.

A bear kills a human and people say "it was just doing what bears do" A human kills a bear and yet no one says "he was just doing what humans do"

Because humans have alternatives to dealing with a threat apart from killing it. Bears don't. For them it is either kill or be killed.

Actually don't they usually hunt down and kill bears that kill humans? Regardless of what the humans did - start patting the young bears offering them food, shooting them with arrows, whatever.

It sounds from the story like they did not need to kill the bear. It is possible that there are things we do not know in the story.

To assume they did the right thing seems unjustified to me.

It is thursty. For blood.

Seriously people, at least half of the states allows bearhunting, so get over it....

Its not hunting season right now

I think Mac said it right. Its because of humans that the bear was fucked in the first place. We can't just dispose of every animal that gets in our way a little bit.
Theres really no justification for shooting it. With the jar on its head, theres no way it could have posed a threat. Theres no reason they couldn't have waited for a tranquilizer. The reason the people at the scene didn't object was probably because their all a bunch of gun toting rednecks who like to shoot animals and have no remorse for other animals.

Yes!
You Fuckwit, we would.
Having said that, the truck hitting the bear is very sad. The wanton murder of a distressed animal is reprehensible!

The world's fucked..you've shown me!

Bears are the #1 enemy to society!! If you ever watched the Colbert show you should know it!

Dumbfuck.... :)
