Atheism is a belief.

I know how to use a dictionary.

Yeah, please, comparing me to that witch won't do you any good. Just because she gives you reach-arounds after mosque doesn't mean I'm wrong.

Excuse me? I was only chiding you for calling someone a "cunt". And poor posting. Would you like it if I called you an dickhead? Probably not, I'm guessing.

I was not aware that S.A.M. is female. And not being Muslim, I don't go to mosque. Or any other "house of worship". In fact, if you had read more than 2 or 3 of my posts you'd know that I don't believe in worship. (To be fair, I might be mixing up threads) But you'd at least know I have no use for "The Cults of Abraham" in any of their incarnations.:bugeye:

Oh, I'm male and I AM a Witch/Wiccan, and I'll thank you to not use MY beliefs as a put down.

there is always reason, there is always a belief.

a rock has a purpose, just like you and I.

Draq....One of my favorite pics. I don't know if you intended it but there is irony here. Arguing about whether atheism is a belief is symbolized by this wonderful shot of Death Valley. Now should we argue whether one should believe a rock can move across the desert floor on its own?

/giggle

semantics aka an op to nitpick is awesome
yet your shit simply does'nt hang
i'd admit and attack on another technicality if poss
can you?

Its the philosophy forum, you nitwit.

Then Atheism is the psychological state in which an individual doesn't hold a [specific] proposition or premise to be true.

They both reject their belief as their own and lack the belief altogether.

Options: To believe or not believe.
Options: To have faith or lack faith.

Now you get it. Correct. Don't confuse a lack of faith in God with lacking belief. No one lacks belief. You simply believe from a different perspective.

, the General Philosophy subforum albeit one of the less traversed still requires etiquette like the rest of the forum. It's not here for personal attacks to be thrown at one another, no matter the subject.

The subject itself should follow the same method of discussion as any other Philosophy. In fact I would ask people to consider looking at the argument from multiple perspectives similar to a a Scholar working on a Phd would do, what this means is even if you are made up in your mind on a subject to argue one particular way, to get a better understanding of the argument to actually attempt to argue from the other direction of the argument.

i.e.
You State "There is no God"
Try arguing why there should be one.

This is not of course to undermine your belief or view but to get you better acquainted with peoples logic on the matter.

And you wonder why I call Sam a name? She's always calling everyone else one!

Well, I gotta admit, I do see your point. Still, I'd hate to see the thread locked, ya know?

Early on I got baited, 'trolled' I guess it's called, and received a temperary ban. Shortly (not Shorty:)) afterwards the thread was locked.

Just trying to help others avoid that as well.

T1G! out.

G'morning T1G!

Congratulations on your baby, is this your first? You'll find your way up here if you're supposed to and I'm hoping that you do. Mentioning a baby to me is like offering a kid a candy store. My husband and I had eight children and we have three grandchildren as of this writing (a boy -5, a girl - 3, and anothe li'l guy only 3 months old). I'd have had a dozen kids but my body wouldn't do it.

May God bless you and give His angels charge over you and your family this night and always - Jesse.

P.S. I'd vote for a Jeep or a Hummer - just saying. ;)

i've always found rejected beliefs to be entirely lacking, but that's just me.
If they are rejected there is debris around the hole. Notice the thread to see how significant the debris can be. Some of it even seems to include beliefs. I think it is best to say that often atheism is a set of beliefs. Sometimes this set does not include the belief that there is no God.

I think one can simply lack a belief. There are many examples I could use in myself, or actually not in myself. And the best ones are beliefs related to things I have never heard of.

If one is however an active, engaged disbeleiver - unless one is caught by some form of religious inquistion - it certainly seems like a family of beliefs constitute this atheism.

Other by definition atheists may lack this set of beliefs.

They are off tending their gardern or sculpting or something.

More power to them.

Here's the thing about lacking belief in god: sure I have no problem with that BUT that would make that person an agnostic: without knowing.

God? Yes -- No -- Don't know
I suppose one could add -- Don't care

Hey:idea:; RESOLUTION, maybe. Let's coin a new word "Nontheist".

As in "Nontheist- n-one who doesn't care about the concept of 'god'."

Maybe I'm just reaching here. The more I look at it the more it seem to be another word for agnostic.
What do y'all think 'bout it?

Sorry, but naturopaths aren't doctors. They have been allowed to use that moniker, much to the chagrin of the medical profession.

You know, the people who are doctors.

My Uncle is a retired nuclear medicine specialist.Even he admits now the pharmaceutical companies have huge control over the medical industry and Doctors. Naturopath medicine does have some value. There is BS and half truths on both sides of the coin.
The Drug companies main concern is the almighty dollar and not the welfare of humanity!

Nontheist sounds good but soon theists would claim that's a belief.
Oh wait a minute. ... ... ... Atheist means NONtheist. Hmmmm

:wallbang:
Nay, nay, nay. An 'Atheist' is someone who believes there is no god.
Check the dictionary. I did. A bunch of 'em.

To all the atheists who compare a belief in god to believing in Santa or the orbiting teapot, but then try to say getting a yes or no answer is unfair: Can't have both ways. Either the teapot is there or it isn't.

'Breeder' indeed. LOL! You haven't seen my husband!

We didn't *try* to make babies, we just made love and what happened - happened. My children seem to like the knowledge that they were 'Made of love,' which is what we told them when they were too little to understand anything more sophisticated. I love children, I've been looking after them since I was ten years old. What's wrong with wanting a dozen kids I'd like to know.

P.S. There was no such thing as e-mail when we were making babies. ;) - Jesse.
